Brandnobs Posted December 4, 2024 Posted December 4, 2024 Hello all, I am afraid that I have a new issue with my old 600 cbr honda (2001). When I try to start the engine, the electric part of the starter seems to work, but not the mechanical part. I base this assesment on the sound of the motorbike, I hear the electrics, but not anything trying to move the mechanical part/pistons. I thinkg it is likely the gear connection between the electric motor and the shaft, (although I have not openned the engine yet as want to have a clear target/s before I do so). More than happy to hear about comments from more experienced people. Comments are mpore than welcome. Quote
Nick the wanderer Posted December 6, 2024 Posted December 6, 2024 Sounds like it may be a starter motor issue, the solenoid sticking perhaps, that's where I'd be looking, good luck. Quote
Punts Posted December 6, 2024 Posted December 6, 2024 The starter relay is under the seat at the l/h side, it will click when you press the starter button. The relay sends12V to the large terminal bolt on the starter. The starter is engaged all the time into a reduction gear and one-way clutch which turns the crankshaft. When you say the electric part is working, do you mean the relay is clicking or that the starter is turning but the engine isn't ? Stuff to test first. Battery fully charged and connections clean and tight. Live and Earth connections clean and tight at chassis, relay and starter. If the relay clicks and you don't get 12V to the starter. If the starter gets 12V and doesn't turn, it's the starter, ( bad connection or worn brushes) If the starter turns and the engine doesn't, fault one-way clutch. Quote
