DeanoMoto Posted January 7 Posted January 7 Hi all, trying to get ised to how this works so please forgive. I have got hold of a bike to restore. I've no papers with it but number plate is old black and white. Starts with A -BS. I am having no luck trying to find what country it has come into the country from any ideas? I was told Spain but not sure this is correct. It's a Honda cbr 600 f1. Thanks. Quote
husoi Posted January 7 Posted January 7 (edited) I know exposing the entire plate is a risk that understandably you won't take. Can you show the format of the plate using symbols? Also if Spain, they had 2 previous systems 1900 to 1970 was XXX-NNNNNN Then changed up to 2000 to XXX-NNNN-YY More recently they adopted LL-NNNN with a possible 5th number. Most letters indicate the region where the plate was issued. Edited January 7 by husoi Quote
DeanoMoto Posted January 7 Author Posted January 7 Hi and thanks. It's A-BS then 4 numbers underneath. Quote
husoi Posted January 8 Posted January 8 A plates would have been Austria at some point but that's before the CBR 600 was produced. Have you tried to find more information with the frame number? Usually known as VIN Quote
DeanoMoto Posted January 8 Author Posted January 8 No not as yet, but was starting to think the same. I will give it a go and see if I can find anything from there. In the end I will want to get it registered here so I can sell it on. Just trying to be as prepared as I can be for the dvla. Thanks for your input. Quote
Capt Sisko Posted January 9 Posted January 9 (edited) Try putting the VIN number into one of the online decoders. For example https://www.vinfreecheck.com/honda-motorcycle-vin-check but there several free ones out there. When I put my BMW into the BMW version it told me everything from the exact model, date assembled, colour to what optional extras were fitted at the factory. It won't help you with the registration number, but you will need this sort of information, (particulalry if it gives you Euro X or CO2 compliance information) for when you come to register the bike.
