Essexboy Posted February 2 Posted February 2 Good morning all Has anybody owned or had experience of the Yamaha XT660R? I am considering one as a winter and trail riding machine. Any light you may be able to shed on them would be very much appreciated Thank you 1 Quote

Any light you may be able to shed on them would be very much appreciated Thank you No, but I had an XT600E, the precursor to the XT660R, and it remains the bike I've loved the most. Drop the OEM exhaust for something lighter, pop on a decent set of 50/50s for on and off road, and possibly an Acerbis aftermarket tank for more range - job's a good'un. If you're serious about trails tougher than gravelled green lanes then you might want to consider something smaller, lower and lighter...unless you possess the skilz I lack. Engines tend to be bombproof - but that also relies on previous upkeep. Paperwork and low mileages are essential. IMO, if the seller can't tell you the tyre pressures and oil off the top of his head, I've always moved on to a different seller. I doubt the seat has improved much over the XT600, for that I recommend a cheap pair of padded cycling shorts rather than getting an expensive seat upholster. Torque doesn't overtax the chain so a decent one with sprockets will last you a fair age with some regular cleaning. All told, I think the XT series is a great halfway house between regular ride and offroad fun. 1 Quote

Mawsley Posted February 10 Posted February 10 Aftermarket silencer will drip weight from the bike, make it fruity and some K60 knobblies will make gravel fun. Nice bike! 2 Quote
