Ella040 Posted March 3 Posted March 3 Hi all, My partner and I are planning to ride around Europe for the next 8 months if all goes according to plan. How in the world do people insure their bike for this sort of trip? I'm from the UK and we're calling a lot of insurers and they will only cover us for 90 days in the EU. They said a lot of bikers tend to get insurance on the borders of the countries they are going to? Does anyone have experience with this? I've outlined the trip below. Any help / insight would be seriously appreciated. Thank you! 1st 90 days - Spain, Italy, Greece 2nd 90 days - Albania, Montenegro 3rd 90 days - Croatia, Slovenia, Italy, Switzerland, France Quote
husoi Posted March 3 Posted March 3 I'm wondering if you are allowed to stay in the EU for 8 months. Never mind the insurance. If you can insure the bike in any EU country that will be valid across the union so effectively you only need to do it once. 1 Quote
Ella040 Posted March 3 Author Posted March 3 Thank you. You can be in the EU for 90 days in a 180 day period. We're spending the first 90 days in EU countries, then the next 90 days in Albania and Montenegro which are not in the EU. After this 180 day period, we can then enter the EU again and will spend the next 90 days making our way back to the UK. Quote
husoi Posted March 3 Posted March 3 (edited) I would say the easiest way is to spend 90 days each year and then you only need your normal insurance. Same rules apply for breakdown cover. Another way would be a second bike Edited March 3 by husoi Quote
