Guest Posted October 24, 2008 Posted October 24, 2008 So I've got this tomtom rider. It hasn't charged from the bike since purchase. It's been back for repair twice, taken weeks. It still wont charge. It's pretty trivial to connect up and should be hard to get wrong. It's simply a black and red wire that you hook up to the battery. The chap on support is now blaming my bike. He's asking if I have a "single wire system"or a "can bus system"WTF? How can I tell if I do? I ride a Kawasaki ZZR1400 Quote
Voodoo Posted October 24, 2008 Posted October 24, 2008 I'd say you don't have a CAN bus system.CAN BUS System Quote
rollazuki Posted October 24, 2008 Posted October 24, 2008 Is it 2 seperate wires, red and black, obviously red to +ve and black to -ve, or is there just 1 wire?ie, does it ground thru the vehicle earth??? Quote
Stu Posted October 24, 2008 Posted October 24, 2008 i dont see what odds what wiring system you have as the two wires go to your battery red to + black to - unless you are taping in to the wiring so it only works with ignition on ?? Quote
Hoody Posted October 24, 2008 Posted October 24, 2008 If you have a Can bus system you can't cut into the loom - it may effect no end of operating systems. It should never be tampered with unless you know what you're doing. Quote
Guest Posted October 24, 2008 Posted October 24, 2008 Speaking as a TomTom owner and having had the associated crap that goes with it... The support from them is useless. Personally I wouldn't bother with them. The black /red charging wire from your tomTom mount should be capapble of coming straight off the battery, just like mine did on my Pan. I had charging problems also, as does, from what I gather, everyone who uses them on the bike. The problem with mine was down to the pins in the mount itself, and the fact that being so damn small they don't line up with the unit itself properly. I solved my problem by wiring in a 12v cigarette socket so I could use the car charger instead..... Quote
