Guest Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 Afternoon guys 'n galsWifey is going on a hen weekend Thursday-Sunday in October, and our daughter is at Grandma's... so I am very tempted to plan a mini tour of somewhere in the UK. Basically me, the bike, a tent, a few things and the open road. Any suggestions of possible places I should visit?I'm based in Brum and have explored Wales a fair bit (having lived there for 21 years!) and wouldn't mind going North... I was thinking of going through the Peak district, up the Yorkshire dales, Northumberland, up to Scotland and then back down around a national park near Carlise (cant remember the name of it) and down through Lake District and eventually back into the Peak district and home. The only requirements are:No motorways,No large towns/cities built-up areas,Outstanding natural beauty,Plenty of petrol stations Suggestions/advice appreciated Rick. Sheep_onna_Bandit Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 Take the Moors road from Malton to Whitby. Nice one for a run. Also, Snake Pass, Cat and Fiddle, Via Gellia to name but a few in Derbyshire. But these are just the best ones I know, I'm sure there's loads more! Quote
rennie Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 stuff the uk in oct! get on a ferry and head south! Quote
techno Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 Seems like you just need to check a map nut the area you suggested is littered with natural beauty, and you'll be able to plan a great route as theres not much crap Quote
Guest Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 Yes, I am crazy! To be fair its the beginning of October (1st!) so its not too bad... I'll tent at least one night, weather permitting... and then travelodge/friends elsewhere!I want to stay in the UK... not get a ferry! I've riden through some shitty weather last year and still enjoyed it so not too bothered about the weather (but of course I'd prefer it to be nice! Quote
Guest Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 I would have a look at the map, pinpoint places you want to go then make a route out of it.. I did a run north of the border to Loch lomond Aug bank hol, but stayed in a pub, saved on baggage.. Quote
Guest Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 I'm trying to work out the compromise between riding too much with a strict itineary and being too relaxed I'm not actually going to see very much/enjoy the roads.I am wondering, how many of you have had a similar trip (say 1k miles) in 3.5 days? What would you suggest would be a good daily mileage? Quote

Kielder water... to the east of North Cumbria.. Quote
Guest Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 Ok... spent 15mins or so on Google Earth... this may be a potential route:B'ham - Peak District - Yorkshire Dales - Lake District - Northumberland National Park - North Yorkshire Moors - Somewhere! - Peak District - Home. Now to do some more planning, work out where to stop and how to sleep!
