  1. Um I cant help on much of brands and that, but all I know is try and get air circles under the heal which helps alot at running, easier on shins and ankles, so you get reduced chance of stress and the horrid shin splints -.-

Also get a nice pear of running socks! they are so comfy and make a real difference too! they have extra grip, and more cushion. this helps when your running over around 5 miles.

    But good luck!

I also run, currently resting from torn tendon from "over doing it" with running!!

Ouch! I had shin splints when I used to run in some cheap slazenger trainers, not very nice. I have been told air max 90s are very good for running but dont have any ventelation for you feet to breath. I don't run far at the moment. I went for a run to the local park in my asics but had very little grip when running over a wooden walkway with chicken wire over it, took twice as much energy to run the 10 meter long platform as my feed slid...also got chased by a dog that looked like a racoon/gremlin.

  2. Used to do a fair amount of running but not so much now. I have read that there are specialist sport shops that put you on a treadmill and see how you run and then can recommend a pair of trainers for you. I never bothered with all that, when I first got into running I just tried loads of pairs on and had a good walk round the shop, if they felt comfortable and a nice fit then they were the ones, turned out Asics gel were the ones I prefered, very comfortable, light weight and kept there shape/lasted for quite a while. I've been buying the same ones for years although they update the model number and make slight changes every year or so. I think unless your an elite runner just go for comfort and fit.

Hi, I prefer ASICS to the other brands, just feel better. Not sure there is a specialist shop in teesside, probably try flog me the best trainers they have in stock...simple just teel them you have £20 and offer it for the £120 glow in the dark turbo run 9000s x2.5zr....made up shoe.

  3. http://m.runnersworld.com/shoe/880-0

About £85 iirc, few months in, and the sole is still in very decent condition, I knocked like 45 seconds off my mile and a half time within a week of using them, I was knocking like 20 seconds a week off before I got them, ran a reasonable time at Army selection, despite the brutal PT session the day before and the 15 minute jog warm up before the mile and a half best effort..

Someone advised me to go to a proper running shop and get a decent pair of trainers when I first started, I dismissed it but wish I hadn't, for me it literally made the world of difference. In my old trainers if I ran like 5 consecutive days I would start getting mild shin splints, never experienced that with these.

I will take a look thanks. What is your 1.5 time? Army PT is a proper beasting did one last week at glencorse and we were all f$%£%d, think we ran mile and half in that aswell.

  4. Hi merp24,

just a note for you, if you ever want studs you cant find or buy, go to your local engineering firm and they will make them for you,

or if you can get use of a lathe and make them your self,

Good luck whatever you decide and thanks for the thread, I always find rebuilt threads interesting.

    keith

Hi thanks for that Keith, however it isn't the studs that are the problem as they are new, its the block itself as it has cracked from when I taped the old ones out as they were welded in and had to grind them off.

  5. I used to run, one of the most important things is a stiff sole to help you run right and protect your feet. Any running shoe you are looking at, hold it between your flat palms, toe on one palm, heel on the other so you can try and squash the whole shoe along it's length. What you are looking for is the sole to not bend at all in the main part of the shoe, but the toe of the shoe to curl up where your toes would curl up as you run.

Some of the ridiculously expensive shoe's are downright dangerous, and some of the cheap ones are actually quite good, but tend to be heavier.

    Lightweight makes a massive difference.

The ASICS trail trainers seemed pritty rigid but i read that they are meant to be like that so you down hurt your feed on rough terrain. When I put them on they felt great, I actually jumped up and down in them and they were very soft. Any idea on where or not I could run on tarmac no problem in them? There was a few staff about but were all talking and trying on hats so I guesed the wouldn't know anything about the trainers...i highly dobt they even knew what their job was.

  6. Irrelevant of what uncle meat says, I second the gait analysis. I bought a pair of newbalances, made such a huge difference to my running, I find them less fatiguing on the legs, more comfortable for my feet, and a damn sight lighter.

After training for the past 9 months I have passed selection and got in the army, I was running at least 5 times a week.

What model of newbalance are they?

  7. Does anyone know anything about different types of running trainers??

I have been looking for a new pair of running trainers but I am a bit lost, can't find any reviews that help in terms of whether or not they are good for roads/paths or just off-road/trail (or both which is what I need). I started running learly last year and was wearing just a cheap pair of slazenger trainers and soon bined them for some ASICS seen in the link below.

    >>> http://www.simplysports.co.uk/asics/gel ... te_men.htm

I have been recomended Nike Air Max 90 trainers, but a bit unsure. Also been looking at ASICS Patriot 4 running shoes which seem fine, but don't know. But today I went to gooutdoors and had a look at their selection, didn't have much but they had a pair of ASICS GEL-TRAIL LAHAR 4 and was very impressed at how good they felt but have been trying to find out a bit about trail trainers whether or not they will be ideal for me. I have read that the grip will wear down after a while on trail shoes if used on tarmac...which is what i will be running on. BASICALLY I WANT TO KNOW WHETHER OR NOT THE ASICS GEL-TRAIL LAHAR 4 WILL BE ALRIGHT FOR ME TO RUN ON THE ROADS AND PATHS WHERE I LIVE WITH NO PROBLEM AND NOT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT THEM WEARING DOWN AND BECOMING USELESS. IT SAYS THAT THEY ARE GOOD ON ALL TERAIN..DOES THIS INCLUDE TARMAC...ANY HELP PLEASE????

  8. +1 on that

also if they believe that it is unrestricted and there for are unlicenced to ride the bike/scooter etc then you will be breaching the terms of your insurance as you have modified your vehicle and there for making it illegal for them to ride it, insurance may be terminated.

  9. If that's the case go for it you have nothing to loose really

Will do, and will put pics up. Had to make up some bull excuse for my mum to why I am spending money on a new exhaust, but it all depends on whether I can get a F*%$ING bolt out! Its rusted in there like a mother f*cker!

Hit it with a hammer! No joking, if all else fails grind it off

  10. "Emergency Bikers"

    OTHER TV SHOWS ARE AVAILABLE.

I watch that sometimes aswell, i have seen a few episodes regarding posible de-restricted bikes been taken away because they had fitted new parts. But to be fair the youths dont help them selves hairing around and getting pulled over alowing the cops to take a better look at the bike and noticing more then resulting in seazing the bike.

  11. yes and thankyou for all your help, i no doubt will be back in a week or so for another problem lol. i know next time not to buy an import shit bike. i thought i was smart trying to save money and get a nearly new bike.. i was wrong.

Not dumb really, they can be good bikes. If you ever go to view or buy a bike get them to start it and then start it yourself so there is no foul play and then you can see for yourself if anything is wrong. If you get a bike delivered always ask them to start it or start it infront of them to make sure it is fine.

What was wrong with it then?

  12. just had the plug and carb done today. still same problem.

Did you get it done at a garage? have you checked for a choke? Could it be your throtle isn't adjusted right, check it has enought free play as if your throttle has no play then you are going to get a faster rev idle faster than if you had the right play, will be in your manuel the right specs.

  13. Hi! This is long, sorry!!

So, I did my CBT yesterday!!

I went with a local and popular training and examination centre in Hull, as I'd seen them training on the school behind my house for 5 years and they seemed down to earth, plus no one tends to have a bad word to say about them...

7.45am start, powerpoint presentation with added safety gear video. I had opted for a geared bike as I don't really fancy a scooter and never wanted to be left without a clue if I happened to only be able to find a cheap bike with gears. Having never ridden on a bike even as a pillion, this was a brave move! There were 3 of us learning geared bikes, and 4 riding scooters, all but 2 of us brand new riders (the 2 not-new riders hadn't ridden for 3.5 and 4 years anyways, so practically new riders!). I was surprised that out of the 7 of us, there were 3 females.

We picked out the safety gear we wanted to borrow after having a look around the bike and being shown how to conduct basic safety checks like that the wheels move, full lock left and right can be achieved and the lights are all working. I would now suggest to any smaller people to barge to the front at this stage. I spent the entire day in gloves that were ripped down most of the fingers and too big for me, a jacket that would have fit another one of me in (their smallest; I'd advise taking your own) and a helmet that was too small for me causing me to remove it to a spotty imbedded-lining-face after spending the day very squidged and uncomfortable.

I stalled and chugged repeatedly, and very nearly fell over/crashed into fences for about half an hour  . I'm pretty certain that this was because of distraction (could see my daughter in her bedroom from the pad and as it was now 9am I was nervous my babysitting sister hadn't yet gotten up to feed her - as soon as my sister came to the window I could immediately do corners, check morrors and pick up speed!), so try and clear your mind of all other things before you start. We then got on to changing gears and picking up speed, before learning how to do a lifesaver. We spent about 2.5 hours on the pad in all, practicing these things (about 45 minutes longer than those on the scooters). We only did two left hand corners, compared to about 30+ right hand corners, and I totally lost my balance and nearly fell off again doing that, despite riding relatively confidently by this point. After this, went back to the base and broke for lunch for an hour!

Our instructor over on the pad really needs to be referred to at this point. I won't name him as I've named the company and think that it would be unfair, and as such will refer to him by a fitting nickname. We'll go for "Shouty Man". Although I appreciate he had best interests in heart, wanted to ensure our safety and undoubtedly knew better than we did, he seemed to have a pretty short fuse on him. Yes I was making stupid mistakes by letting go of the clutch too soon and not picking up brand new manouvers immediately, but I don't feel I needed shouting at for it. It made me more nervous, and I screwed up more because of it. He put it down to me rushing when I then made another error. I put it down to fear and tension. The company has 6 instructors, and the others are extremely banterous and down-to-earth, and I loved being in the base to have a laugh with them. I saw one of them conducting more training today when I was walking into town with my daughter and got a wave! Shouty Man was not someone who would like jokes. Or waving. When I was at home making lunch for myself, daughter and sister, I was really considering just not returning to complete my on-road part. I had very little confidence in my ability to ride, and couldn't imagine myself completing it successfully. Perhaps Shouty Man is more used to teenaged boys who need their feet keeping on the ground? He was positive at times, and was capable of positive reinforcement, but it was kind of over-shadowed by the Shouty-ness.

Anyways, £95 out of pocket and no driving license currently in my possession (they keep it in the centre all day), I decided to return to the base for the road ride. When we were let back in, we went upstairs for a delightful little powerpoint about all the different ways that you could die from riding a motorbike, graphic images of what happens if you wear shorts as opposed to trousers, a reminder that helmets can smash in half on impact and a rules-of-the-road mini-quiz in which the 4 drivers (including myself) realised that we collectively had absolutely no idea what an amber light meant in a traffic light sequence. Luckily we were with one of the 5 other instructors, and it was something to laugh at ourselves for, not a Shouty matter. We thought it was a "get ready" signal, as opposed to a "make sure the person behind won't kill you if you don't move" signal. I did, however, promise to re-read my Highway Code.

After the powerpoint that sent half of the class to the toilet in fear, we got ready to go out on the road. We had an earpiece each to put on, and with a helmet too small that was even more of an issue for me, with my ear fast becoming bright red and really painful. My heart sunk when Shouty Man announced that we would be with him. We went down the road perhaps half a mile to a dead end to pick up some confidence. It was pretty cool riding down there, up to the point that I realised I was riding at 20MPH and nearly messed myself! Little bit of failing-to-do-manouvers-and-being-shouted-at later, we went for a ride around the estate. I was up front for most of the 2 hours, as the other girl's battery died on her earpiece thing, so my confidence had to pick up. I learnt to steer more with my hips than with my shoulders, which made things so much easier. I don't know if that might be a frowned-upon way to ride by bikers generally, but shouty man never rollicked me for it, so I assume it must be somewhere near safe. I was terrified about doing a roundabout but on approach at a relatively large roundabout I kicked its butt first time. Shouty man kept talking to the other girl despite her earpiece not working, and never bothered to use her name, which scored me a right rollicking for pulling into a carpark after he shouted "GO LEFT, GO LEFT" into the mic and I followed the instruction. The radio contact is one way, and so there's no way of checking the instructions are actually for you. The idea is you nod if you can understand them, and shake your head if you never made out what they said, or are psychic and know they're talking to you through their helmet but can't hear them in your ear (something the other girl got a rollicking for). As he wasn't directly behind me at this point (still on the main road when I was down side street), nodding never worked as there was no opportunity for him to say 'Not you'. He kept saying to me once I'd pulled up in the car park (in angry voice) "why have you pulled into there? I never told you to go in there, so why did you go in there". When I nervously answered "I'm sorry! Her earpiece isn't working, I'd come left around the corner and you said to 'go left, go left', I assumed you wanted me to come into here? Sorry." he replied "I understand why you did that now, then, but you've put yourself in danger coming into here [an scubadiving kit car park] and shouldn't have come in" (still angry).

Bit more riding later, ability to get to 30mph achieved, confidence heightened, free-riding done when instructor and other learner got stuck at traffic lights/junctions/roundabouts later, I PASSED my CBT! I actually couldn't believe it!! They way he'd been going off at us I assumed we were both useless (you can still hear when the other person's getting told off, even when they're not psychic enough to know they are)! Back at base we were talking to two others who'd gone out with a nice, jolly man and mentioned that Shouty Man was very "stern", and the other girl replied, "yeah he did get angry fast, didn't he?". My sister did her CBT with the same company a while back, and apparently her instructor gently encouraged her when she screwed up with "you know you did that wrong, don't you, don't worry about it and just don't do it again" in what she described as a clearly friendly and relaxed manner. It would seem that this one instructor is suited to teens who ride like maniacs, not girls who're terrified of a machine they've never sat on before. Although I passed, what was supposed to be an enjoyable experience was terrifying. I'd seriously suggest that, if you don't trust your instructor to not keep yelling at you when you're not the sort of person who benefits from tough love in such an environment, ask someone if you can go with a different instructor. It may or may not have made a difference for me, but I am terrified of getting on a bike now. Despite his words of encouragement, his shoutyness has stuck so much more.

Hi there, sounds a bit like my story above. When I went back the second time I had blue riped gloves on and when I took the off at the end my hads were died blue, looked like I had badly bruised my hand. Don't let it get you down, when I passed of a scooter I bought a geared bike and just went around my local streets to gain my confidence on it. You could always get a bike and just ride it to a car park and practice...theres always the scuba kit place  Pretty bad that he didn't stop you both and replaced the earpiece for the girl as its standard safety for the instructor to be able to comunicate with every pupil incase of an acsident or emergency. Helmets are meant to be tight but not painful, you are meant to have plumped cheeks (kinda looking like a fat kid with its face shut in a lift).

  14. Never realised it was a scooter. Anyway does your scooter have a air choke? As the Haotian I owned did and got nocked easily and made the bike speed up and idle fast when stood still at light etc and then obviously when put back to normal it is fine again. Not to sure about scooters as only ever had motorbikes (only ever ridden a scooter once in the pouring rain) so might sound dumb if they dont have chokes. Check the choke? Mine was on the left handlebar and was a sliding one (all way left is off...all way right is fully on...anything inbetween is on but not fully). Might be on your carb if so will be a push and pull one (pushed in is off...pulled out is on). If that is no help and nothing to do with ur scooter but what the hell you learnt something about chokes.

  15. Yeah....you made a good job of it Murphy.......a real sense of achievement and good knowledge gained from that project.... 8-) On to the next one now then.....

Thanks Tango. Yeah would like to build something bigger, or make this better but only time will tell as money is key. I think if i sold it for a reasonable sum and could get a project for a cheap I would definatley do it again. Its just a good feeling as I can now say 'I build that!'.

  16. Nice job !

Bet your glad you kept it now

Almost makes me want to do a restoration .......

Yeah definatley, learnt alot when doing it. Should get a MT50 nice little bike and straight forward. A few on ebay that don't need much doing to them. What I like about them is you can use alot of bikes for donours such as all the MTs & MBs, the H100 engine fits nicely in and the CR80 can be used aswell for parts such as the swingarm. Seen one with a AM6 engine in it but you need to mount a radiator as its water cooled. I wanted to put a CR80 Swingarm and eather a big bore (60cc) cylinder on it or a h100 engine.

  17. Ok so about 6 years ago I bought this honda from my uncle and decided that I would do it up. When I got the bike I was over the moon as I had always had a love for motorbikes and quads but never owned one, only been on a Honda quad 500cc, not sure what it was called as was too busy tearing up a field to care. Anyway I came to the point after teaching myself how to ride the bike to strip it down, oh boy, and what a lot of suprises it had. Most of the parts were in pretty good condition and been painted with a brush :? silver. Some parts were just rust holding hands and some parts were just welded on such as the exaust studs. So when I ground dow the Nuts on the exaust to get the exaust off I managed to free the engine.

I then came to get the cylinder head off but that wasnt going to happen, they were seazed good, tryed everything I could to try free them so in the end i had to grind them off which I didn't want to do but had no choice.

    [album]478[/album]

So after that reavealed another problem, the cylinder head studs were rusted through and one snaped when removing the cylinder head. So I got some mole grips to get them out but the snaped one wouldnt budge so had to grind that and drill and tap it. No problem, just needed to find some new studs (might of as well went searching for the lost ark). I found some new exaust studs no problem and drill and tapped them and fitted them, the right side had crached so was loose. Nothing metal poxy puty stuff cant fix :D

So I have a bike all striped down and spent hours searching for new studs and couldnt find any, I looked for a new engine but was to pricy so in the end i gave up :crybaby: not one for quiting. So i boxed up the parts and put it all away. The bike ended up outside for for a few years as had no room for it as i now had a 125 for geting about on. 2 years later after selling my 125 i decided to photo and try sell my MT50.

    [album]477[/album] [album]479[/album]

When doing so I just spent a few minutes thinking where or not I should try and build it back up as I spent alot of time cleaning all the parts. I decided that I would keep the bike and search for the studs once more and if I couldnt get any I would sell the bike as spares or repairs :crybaby: and woohooo! i found a busines called lings honda which was selling NOS parts from all honda bikes including the MT50 so I got 4x new studs and nuts, and gaskets for the cylinder and cylinger head. So I was now on my way to VICTORY!!!!! Kinda

So now that I had the parts on the way I decided to spray the bike a new colour as the seat had been re apulstered blue I opted for a blue and white theme for it. So i went down to my local halfords and bought some cans and got on my way. So now the mudgar, cowel, tank and rear mudguard was white I needed to decide what was to be blue. So I chose the forks which turned out great.

The parts came and got them fitted and everything flew together, apart from the piston having a Chinese missing in the scirt and one of the rings was broken slightly, everything was fine :D. I got the bike running and was very happy untill when I installed a new piston and rings and she wouldnt start. Turned out one of the rings had cracked so I replaced it and fired her up :D I now had the bike finished, all that was left was to find some decals/stickers to make it look a bit more apealing and to cover the roughth bits :? . I replaced the airfilter as old one needed new foam and got rid of all that silver paint which covered the forks and shocks and revealed nice crome. Also added a few aditional items which I salvaged

    Here she is finished.

    [album]475[/album] [album]476[/album] [album]474[/album]

    New parts:

Trails Tailpipe salvaged off a woman in Liverpool

    Renthal 773 handlebars

    Power Cone 29mm Airfilter

    Piston Kit

    Cylinder studs and bolts

    Exaust Studs and Bolts

LH Side Pannel was red, painted white

    King/Master Chain Locking Link

    Sunline MX Grips

    Throttle Cable

    Cylinder and Cylinder Head Gaskets

    NGK Spark Plug

    NGK Spark Plug Cap

    Needs:

Cylinder as the exaust studs have come loose as it has cracked, held on tight with metal poxy putty. Works a treat.

    RH Pannel

Gear Lever, current one had snapped and just bodged to make it work.

Just the matter of deciding what to do with it, had a little go of her yesterday and runs fine, not road legal and dont have anywhere to go with her or any means of a trailer to get her there. Contemplating selling her but would have to be the right price as alot of time and money went into the build, and not to menthin blood, sweat and tears...the little bitch!

Thanks for reading, this is my first build and first bike.

  18. No sorry im from Teesside. Have you adjusted it to the right specs. My bike came with a small manuel but was no use as it had been translated from chinese and all pictures and graphs were still in chinese. If you dont have one there is a chinese bikes manuel on ebay which costs about £15, features the lexmoto bikes.

  19. Hi mate, I had a Haotian a few years ago, just the same as Lexmotos. Everything you said happened to me and all it was was it needed the idle screw adjusting on the carb. The wheel spinning when it starts, guesing on the center stand, is normal, mine did it from new. Also the pinging is likely just the engine cooling down. I would recomend get a new NGK sparkplug for that model as if its still got the standard one from new in they are cheap and nasty. Also just one other thing if you find yourself with no electrics, its the fuse. Mine blew fairly quickly when I puled onto the drive and pressed the horn, but replaced it with a better one. They are considered cheap bikes as they are just old chinese technology and copys of Honda bikes mainly but if you look after it they are good learned bikes. Hope you get it sorted.

  20. Harley Davidson bike is also an good option for you if you are looking for classic and legendary bikes. Harley Dvzaidson is a head turner amazing look and style this bike has.

    Really?

A Harley Davidson is a good option for a 15 year old looking for a learner legal bike he can tinker with?

Are you on Heroin and drain cleaner?

(I await your spam posts to start after you have amazed us all with your massive knowledge about bikes for 5 or so posts)

My sides hurt! Maybe means Airfix?
