  1. Currently having problems with my gearbox. I was riding home this afternoon after work just traveling steady and as I went to select 3rd I heard a grinding noise and the bike slipped out of gear. I have had the bike on the stand going both up and down the gears with the engine running. All other gears seem to work fine its just when changing up from 2nd or down from 4th. When I try change into 3rd I can hear the usual clicking noise but the wheel can be stopped completely still, almost as if the bike has gone into neutral. Any suggestions as the what the problem might be will be greatly appreciated. - Just to add, the bike is a yamaha MT-03, year 2011, done 7000 miles.

  3. How do you plan on doing your test if you dont have a bike? to get A2 or A licence you also need to do it on a A2 or A category bike. Insurance, bike rental and test are all added in with the training costs. If you plan on insuring a bike you dont have a license for yet to do it on your own, consider how much more expensive insurance costs will be. Have you got anywhere to practice mod 1 on your own and do you know exactly what to do? Any bad habits you might have picked up from riding on a CBT they will fail you for on mod 2? I know I did.
  4. How did you book? You should still be getting conformation of when it is. I booked mine online and was sent a conformation email. I would be ringing them if you havent had anything back.
  5. If you fall off on your mod 1 then your not ready to be on the road and need a bit more practice. Plenty of people fail on silly stuff but the majority of people who fall off seem to lock the front wheel which is not something you should be doing before you're out on the road. Real emergencys dont give you notice and falling off could mean death. The test gives you the right motions you would need to go through but probably too safe to be anything like a real world situation. So its very safe, a lot safer than everyday riding in the sense that I would rather fall off in a nice open space with no one around, opposed to falling off on the road without the right level of skill potentialy under a trucks wheels.
  6. You need to do the following: Theory test Mod 1 Mod 2 Book the theory test yourself online When you have passed that the best way to do mod 1 and 2 would be find a training school in your area. You will be restricted to an A2 licence.
  7. You have just saved me from so much aggro
  8. Did you leave the compressor connected to the tyre all night? I know you might have to presume the worst, but im not that stupid Thanks for the advice, Really not looking forward to taking a tyre off again though.
  9. Spoked wheels have inner tubes. Otherwise the air would leak through the holes. The tyres are designed for use with a tube.
  10. Does seem like a mad theory but I need to make sure Im covering all options. I was thinking more along the lines of the way it clips on to the valve or the pressure it uses to pump up the tube could have damaged it. The tube was fine when I took the old tyre off so I know it has become damaged while fitting the new tyre myself. I didnt think to check inside the tyre though
  11. So I fitted A new tyre.. badly One side of the tyre fully around the wheel. Fed the inner tube in through the gap, slightly inflated, located the valve in the right place. other side of tyre on. pumped up using a portable car air compressor. Checked the tyre roughly one hour later and it was fine, This morning its almost completely flat. I dont know what could have caused this. Searches seem to show trapped tube, Which I was very careful with though possible I have trapped it still. Or damaged valve. I want to give it another go but if it is the valve that is damaged could i be doing something wrong? Should the nut that holds the valve in place be on loose? Am I using the wrong type of compressor? I dont really know what else could go wrong with it. The type of compressor I used is similar to this one. http://www.qvsdirect.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/800x/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/r/a/raclp300-dunlop-300psi-portable-in-car-air-compressor.jpg
  12. Interested in these, my only concern is the border around the pinlock. whats it like riding with one, can you even see it?
  13. "Egg technique" " riding with your cock on the brake..." what am I reading.
  14. Before you set off for each step just run through the route and what you need to do in your head. Remember to shoulder check. Remember that you only need to do 32 mph for the emergancy stop and swerve. which realistically for the amount of room you have, is a snails pace. and remember you are only doing what you have done loads of times before in your practice, on a now mega grippy surface.
  15. A nice guide just to add a few, in the big bikes that have 47bhp or under. All variants of bikes that use the Yamaha 660 single cylinder engine: Aprillia Pegaso 650 (which is really a 660) Yamaha MT-03 Yamaha XT660 (X, R, Tenere) Yamaha SZR 660 MZ Skorpion Probably a few more.
  16. The kevlar jeans are definitely safe, I would stick to the more well known brands though. there are plenty of videos showing how much protection they offer. I would be weary of what your friend is actually wearing. If its the plastic faux leather not only will it provide no protection, it could cause more damage by melting onto your skin from the friction during a crash.
  17. I wear a rash guard, designed and bought for MMA and some base layer pants I got from aldi for about £4. but that's because I am cheap. I have not found a reason to buy anything else though as these work perfectly.
  18. I'm not a vegan, or a vegetarian but this interests me too. I think the only real alternative to how leather looks and feels would be lorica. Though a quick google search only brings up boots and a few gloves. for a full suit, It tends to be incorporated in with the leathers in certain places rather than all over. The sidi lorica boots are fully made out of synthetic materials and are almost identical to the leather ones. you can buy kevlar lined gear that look just like normal clothes, with and without armour. Whatever materials come up in your search though. You want to make sure that they are abrasion resistant. If your looking for gear that looks like leathers though just stay away from anything faux leather. They may say motorcycle jacket in the advertisements but you might as well be wearing a plastic carrier bag for all the protection that will give you.
  19. If I could find an instructor this cheap in my area this would be ideal. The dyno stuff I can get done for free though.
  20. I have a feeling you are right, even though the rules dont make it clear. I think you have read the same thing as me where it states you cannot use a dyno certificate as proof of restriction, as this is the only place I have seen a dyno certificate mentioned, I know a special certificate is given for that by whoever fits or supplies the restrictor. It does not mention anything about using a dyno certificate to prove an increase in power though. I have asked this question on the government website, with any luck I might get a response within the year.

  22. cheers for the reply but I still dont think this is clear. I can get a dyno cetificate showing above 53.6bhp for my bike, however it will only have 47 on test day, I wont riding anything illegaly. I guess the question for this option really is will they allow you to do the test on a bike that has been modified to meet category A for the test. the only proof that it has been modified as far as I know would be a dyno reading. For the second option can you use a bike that would fit in the A category normaly, but restricted to bring it into A2 requirements?
  23. I think you have misread this, in neither situation would I be riding the bike there illegally. As far as I am aware on no documents does it state the engines power, the only way you could prove this is with a dyno reading, Which I can provide, whether its currently running with that amount of power or not. The second way would be just forgetting to tell them about the restriction. Surely they have no way of proving otherwise?
  24. This is a question asked way in advance just so I know for preperation. I passed my test under the new rules at the start of this year, I am 23 which means I can only hold an A2 Licence. next year I will be going for my full licence as soon as possible. I will need to take it on a motorcycle, of at least 595 cc and an engine power of at least 40 kW (53.6 bhp) Now my current bike fits within the a2 category unrestricted (660cc, 46bhp roughly). I dont really want to pay to do my test with a school again and rent there bike. Could I use my current bike, if i provide a dyno certificate showing above 53.6 bhp or could I swap my bike for one fitted with a restrictor and just claim is isnt restricted on test day?
  25. Best way I found to learn was with an app on my phone. Link to the one I used. But I imagine they are all similar. Helped being able to answer a few questions or a mock test while on a break at work or whenever I got chance.
