MOD1 on my fathers bike
maccy replied to G-TT600's topic in CBT, Test and Advanced Training Information
all you need is to be insured on the bike you take your test on. As all insurance policys have there own terms, really the only people you can ask is them. I would just call who ever you are insured with at the moment and see what they say. -
Depends on situation and where you are going, too many life savers and they could say you are not focusing on what is going on in front enough. Its common sense really. If you have stopped at a junction for a long time or at traffic lights or you are going very slow on approach, if you are going straight forward, just both mirror checks before you set off. If you are turning right, mirror check, right life saver. If your are turning left, again mirror check and left life saver. no need to look over your right shoulder if you are turning left or over your left if you are turning right. If you're coming up to a junction without having to stop for a long time or you have right of way, check mirrors on approach, if its clear and you are going straight on, again no need for a life saver. You only really need to do a left life saver here if you have recently gone past a cyclist and they aren't way behind in your mirror.. but if you are turning right you should always be doing a life saver as it could put you in the path of vehicles doing stupid overtakes. But remember it is common sense and not a rule, kids running around near you, loads of cyclists, etc. do a life saver. This is what I was told by my instructor and I passed my test first go

Mod 1 on a scooter?
maccy replied to Captain Slow's topic in CBT, Test and Advanced Training Information
I think this depends entirely on the scooter, I cant see anything 125+ cc being a problem. You have to do I think 32mph with a bit of leeway. I was advised 19mph on the bend for your run up, In reality you can be doing way more and use this to build up your speed to 30mph + quite easily. The bend is quite large and you are on a very grippy surface. -
Theory and CBT done... now for MOD 1
maccy replied to andy110885's topic in CBT, Test and Advanced Training Information
Dont worry about the swerve. When you see it, you will realise the amount of room you have to move in between cones is massive. -
You will have to let us know how that cover performs, from experience any cheap cover I have had usually tears after a bit of strong wind. If it does seem strong, I would still be tempted to brush a waterproofer like fabsil over it. The alarm padlocks look good, but not for securing the bike, Maybe on a gate or garage door. For a cheap paddock stand, it isnt really that cheap at £30. Forget quality, the boots just look horrible. Glad you're taking them back. And I imagine a £10 aldi chain could be bolt cropped by a toddler with nail clippers, some of the leading brand chains can be cut in seconds.

Does this camera exist?
maccy replied to maccy's topic in Clothing, Luggage, Accessories and Security
I dont want it looking at my speedo, could quite easily backfire if its proven Im riding dangerously doing 51 in a 50 zone. Also I want it so I can plug a wire in to charge/ run off the battery, cutting down on fuss by having to charge it at home. -
Does this camera exist?
maccy replied to maccy's topic in Clothing, Luggage, Accessories and Security
Cheers guys. They're the sort of things I was looking for, you press one button, or as soon as it goes on the bike it starts up, then you dont have to do anything with it ever again until you need to check the footage. -
So I have decided to get a camera, considered it before but thought it was too much hassle. Times have changed and I realise now after myself and a family member was in a car accident, unless you are have concrete evidence about what happened to cause that accident, you havent got a chance in dealing with insurance/ court. That coupled along with a few near misses myself, which could quite easily have been a nasty crash has swayed me. I just want a no hassle camera, I use the bike everyday as my only transport, im on and off the bike multiple times so dont want to be messing around with it. Just looking for something that does the following. - Mounted to the handle bars - Plugs into some sort of dock which secures and charges it. - Automatically deletes or writes over footage after a certain amount of time. - is waterproof - good quality video and sound but doesnt have to be the best out there. Probably asking for a lot but the main features would be the last 3. Cheers

Free Suzuki neck tube
maccy replied to Tankbag's topic in Clothing, Luggage, Accessories and Security
Of course they will use our details. But I doubt people read the small print, I honestly didnt and only have myself to blame for that. But then thats a marketers wet dream isnt it. A big shiny freebie title with a simple form to fill out, no loss to us right, Just them to gain from it. They aimed for a mass amount of interest by showing the offer freely to the public. If the offer was only for pre registered people who received an email, then they could have easily sent those people a code to use on the site or access the offer through a log in. -

Whats the purpose of a helmet again, To survive a crash or pretend you are robocop? -
the hazard perception test for bikes is pretty much the exact same concept yes. You can pick up hazard perception tests everywhere. I know that WHsmith always sell them. As for finding them online, couldn't recommend any but doubt you could go far wrong by looking around. There isn't different highway codes, its a general set of rules for everyone using the road. If you have already past your car one, It will be a breeze. best way I found to revise though was getting the app on my phone. just went through a few mock tests on work breaks or any other free time. Much easier when its always there for you to access rather than just when at home on the computer or whatever.

Again, Thanks for the advice.

Ill be checking over that tomorrow, thanks for the advice. Ill have to think twice next time, before I decide that me and my bike should go for an early morning swim.

The bike still runs, Its an MZ ETZ 251. Went flying off of it in flood water. So far all I have done is spray all the electrics and blasted an entire can of GT85 all over it. As It still runs all seems fine but is there anything I should check as a precaution?

What is the biggest hazard on the road as a biker?
maccy replied to Glorian's topic in Motorbike Chat
lets face it, the worst thing about slipping on horse poo is the fact it might end up smeared on you and bits getting in your helmet. -

maccy replied to Glorian's topic in Motorbike Chat
There is. Theres some kind of horse riding school nearby where I live and their horses always seem to have a bag attached to the back of them. Clearly the device to stop it happening exists, most just cant be arsed using it. http://www.horsenation.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/bun-bag-dapple.png -

Metal plate in gloves a pain!
maccy replied to Phooey's topic in Clothing, Luggage, Accessories and Security
Could just be a defect in them or they are not designed to fit your hand shape, such as people having different finger lengths and widths, More pronounced knuckles, etc... I have some dainese gloves with metal plates and they are the comfiest gloves I own. But I tried on nearly every pair of similar glove in the shop first before I bought them. Some of them just felt weird on my hands. -

Y-Anchor + Almax Immobiliser III
maccy replied to NooBish-AbbZ's topic in Clothing, Luggage, Accessories and Security
This is the one I bought. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HEAVY-DUTY-GR ... 3a82115d44 I cant seem to find them anymore either. There was loads when I looked, Possibly a patent thing now?? There is a giant advert for the yanchor website. If thats the case just buy some box section and ask around for a welder to make you one. Could even contact the seller for the one I have, he might still make them, just cant advertise them. -
Y-Anchor + Almax Immobiliser III
maccy replied to NooBish-AbbZ's topic in Clothing, Luggage, Accessories and Security
Pretty much the same set up as what I have got. Though my bikes are still in a garage. If its stored outside make sure the y anchor is put in a spot where it can't collect water. If you are looking to buy one from http://www.yanchor.com dont bother, no matter how its dressed up, Its a bit of steel box section welded together. Not worth £55 to 70 without postage on top. I bought one on ebay for £15 including postage which is bigger than the y-max and goes deeper underground, by far the best place to look. as for the chain, my Yamaha MT-03 is about the same size as those bikes you mentioned and I find the 1.5 meter chain to be perfect, Not heavy, Still long enough to get around awkward spots and with the almax chains you can place the lock anywhere down the length of the chain, so you can shorten it with ease to keep it off the ground. Where you put the chain is dependant on the bike. Ideally you want to put the chain through the frame but this isnt always possible. -
Dreading it mate, My warranty ran out 3 month ago... Any idea what sort of costs to expect? 7000 miles and the cush drive has already gone and now this, I think this bike is made of cheese.

best place to start would be the battery. Any voltmeter will do, straight onto the positive and negative terminal, You should be getting a reading of around 12 volts. If its lower you need to get the battery charged, I would recommend something like an accumate multi stage charger.
