  1. At least it's bikes on TV. Beats celeBRATy X dancing what do you call it? I too like his humour, When he was in Norway (or somewhere like that?) "thats the first time I've spent all night looking for moose with four legs!" In fact watching this programe has inspired me to go European touring for the first time next year! (although NOT Russia )
  2. Ha! the web page is a bit crap isn't it! Sunday mornings (10:00am) are when they meet up. I'm away this weekend, sadly.
  3. Hi guys/gals http://www.oddiesmotorcyclegroup.co.uk/ The above group of bikers are a pretty nice bunch. I started riding with them a couple of months back. Quite a mature lot, and a good mix of riders. Lady bikers and youngsters on pillion too! Check out the 'contact' page. Tim
  4. Hi Margaret, Shark helmets seem to fit most (if not all) of your criteria. They score well on the SHARP tests, and accommodate spectacles, blue tooth etc. As stated by other posters, THE most important thing is fitting corectly, AND remember to fasten the bloody thing!

  6. Check out this official gov web page for helmet 'safety' http://sharp.direct.gov.uk/ You'll be surprised how good and how bad some helmets score! (I got a Box BX1 for my daughter, aged 12, for £35, it scores four stars for safety. Her relatively low usage of the helmet makes this a great buy) However, if your ALSO after quality and longevity in a helmet then yes Shoei and Arai are excellent brands. It's safe to assume a longer and more comfortable life from these 'famous' names, but NOT necessarily better safety.
  7. what do you call a dear with no eyes AND no legs?? . . . . . . . . 'still' no f**king idea
  8. "my dad's sat nav ran out and I needed a wee and some grub on my way to the rally last year, before I got horribly lost and horribly wet!" I hope the 'wee' and getting horribly wet wern't connected????
  9. Started looking at the massive choice in gloves today (and that's just summer/sport style gloves) I've fallen in love with the Knox Handroid's But are they any good? Most reviews are very favourable, but the odd niggle on stitching quality has reared its head, and one review mentions the white leather dye as actually rubbing off onto the handlebar grips! These comments, to be fair are on earlier gloves; they have been out a while now and should have got over any teething problems. So my question is, do any of you guys/gals own these gloves, or indeed know anybody who owns them? before I spend £150 on a pair
  10. Check out the government SHARP web page. All helmets for sale in the UK are tested on a 5 star rating scheme. You'd be suprised how little you can pay for a 4 or 5 star helmet.
  11. I'm lucky, I have a choice of bike kit. Some of it does have reflective/hi viz stuff built in. My opinion, I don't for one minute think wearing all the 'bright' gear makes any difference to your safety. However...... When your up in court with the b**tard who has knocked you off, and he says, "sorry m'lord I didn't see him" and you show him your bright green kermit suit, he's going to look stupid, not you!
  12. This is the 1st BMW I’ve ever owned (and I've owned a LOT of motorbikes!) I've covered about 3000m since new. I am very impressed with the quality of build and parts. The ride is extremely comfortable, but continued slow riding (in traffic) can cause some 'tingling' in the hands. The bike feels light, which is probably due to the under seat fuel tank. Performance wise it’s on a par with say the Suzuki 650 Vtwin or the Kawasaki Er650. However low down grunt is superb. Top end speed is a bit academic these days for me. A perfect bike for tight country roads (a ‘giant killer’) I've had a Beowulf sport silencer fitted, which has improved low/mid-range performance and economy. Costs are about 170 miles for £17, you can work the ecomony out (Sounds fantastic too, without upsetting other road users too much) Beowulf are based in Halifax, and the service was fantastic, a must to recommend. I’m not sure what the standard tyre make is? But suffice to say these are more than adequate, and the rear still has plenty of tread left after 3k. Longest journey so far, Wales, 250 miles. What’s to criticise? Well I’d prefer better on bike storage (don’t like panniers) There is plenty of room in the false tank area, but a bugger to get too. With some clever design, this could be made into a 'glove box'. Under the seat isn’t much better. Just enough for a disk lock, some keys and my butties would be nice. Other than that, I’m in love.
