  1. Yup, We're off at the crack o' dawn tomorrow. Look out for a transit van surrounded by, 2 X R1200GS, a SV650, a Z800, a 600 Bandit and maybe a couple of others.
  2. I've been to see 'Tony Archer' very nice people. I will get back with a report soon (hopefully trying out a new seat this weekend for a trip to Mallory park)
  3. I went through this at Christmas after 16 years working for the company! I got quite a good deal in comparison. One thing I did find out, was that assuming your request for the redundancy is accepted then you are entitled to time of for interviews. Obviously not every afternoon for two weeks!!! Very best of luck
  4. Thanks guys, That Saddleman looks great, but I've run out of money for time being. (I've just put the official hard pannier set on! ) Cycle shorts eh? I'll investigate. It's my tail bone which is really suffering.
  5. That's a good idea. However I'm not that will work with the GS 'trail' style bars?
  6. Ok, so I've started doing some 300+ mile Sunday rides to prep up for my grand tour to Spain in August. My bike is a superb BMW R1200GS, I love it. However I appear to have developed a sore 'tail bone' Something that's never happened before on other bikes? I'm considering trying a cheap gel seat or maybe one of these 'Airhawk' comfort cushions It's my age Any help or suggestions please?
  7. I'm a very lucky guy, My pal and his 18yo son are joining me on a trip across France and down to Barcelona on the bikes. We've packed the families off on a plane, and they are going to join us in a jointly rented villa complete with pool... It's our first 'big' holiday in 5 years. My kids are 13+16. I wasn't allowed to take the daughter (13) on the bike all the way to Spain, family pressure and all My thoughts were, even if she does complian about a sore a*** after the first 50 miles, at least it would be a memory to keep for ever. Anyhow, maybe next year for taking the daughter? It won't be long before she turns all 'legs and t**s' and starts to get interested in.... gulp boys! Anyhow, ride safe and have a good holiday y'all
  8. Any more news on this bike? I like the story so far!
  9. Buy new, From a proper dealer, Make sure it fits properly, Make sure its fastened securly. Then look at design, style, cost! etc. The SHARP web page may not be perfect, but it's an independent step in the right direction. I just don't buy it that a £400 helmet is ten times better than a £40 helmet (FOR SAFETY) However you will (probably) be buying a better quality product, lets hope so eh! Saying that I did spend over £200 on my helmet, hypocrit The Caberg 'Duke' looks like a great value buy. Has all the attachments, is Italian made, cheap'ish, and scores 5 stars on the SHARP survey!
  10. Just come back from a full weekend away on the bikes. Into the Welsh mountains. The bikes are a bit dirty but weather was on the whole very nice indeed. Good company and good food/beer, Great! I spend most Saturdays working on motorbikes, so although I may not get away on my bike I do get to ride bikes! YBR125's and 50cc scooters!
  11. A good question, I think there is a difference between songs that 'remind' you of riding and songs that are good to listen too whilst riding. Songs that remind me are pretty much all that rubbish middle of the road American rock from the 70's and 80's nothing hard core. Things like Whitesnake, 'Here I Go Again' Weirdly for a man of my considerable age... songs for riding too are completley different. Modern 'Trance' music or even Classical.
  12. I've got a Ghost Drift, it's a lovely bit of kit. Very well made and finished. Nice and small (although I still feel like a dalek with it on top of my helmet) I cannot compare with other makes i'm afraid, this is the 1st camera I've owned. (the money was burning a hole in my pocket) If i'm honest it's probably too good for me, as i'm not techno savy enough to explore it's full potential. As a product, I'm very happy with it.
  13. It's the bike-bike comms that interests me really. Going over to Europe in August with a couple of mates, and I'm thinking it may well be useful?
  14. Drift Ghost HD for me too. only just arrived, so yet to try it out. My mate has one, and the quality is superb. However its not cheap. The intention was to record my great European tour in August. But as others have said, I may consider it everyday use! Maybe have a seperate SD card for mundane trips, and just keep deleting the files when it gets full?
  15. Looking good so far then! Thanks, and keep me posted on the test ride with your partner, please.
  16. Please give us a review of these, I'm just about to invest in this technology, but I'm a little bewildered by it all So an honest review would be great. Thanks Tim
  17. He's a lucky guy. We all made mistakes when we started, and hopefully got away with it. Not sure it was a good idea giving his video to the media though? The BBC can't wait to tell jo public how we all die every year at the TT. This is more ammo, to shoot us down with. I wish I had a helmet cam fitted and running, every time some nob head car driver did something silly in front of me, but then I can't imagine the BBC being interested in that? As to the other article on the guy and a three year old on a bike... At least they don't refer to him as a 'biker' Out of all the 'bikers' I've know over the years I've never know anyone do that! Maybe a little spin around a private field, to give the child a bit of excitement (very gently) It's all about crossing 'that' line isn't it. We all have our own boundries, but this guy clearly has crossed waaay too far over for most people. My daughter has been a regular visiter to my pillion seat since she was 12y, but of course wearing proper gear and my riding has always been tailored to her abilities.
  18. The most important part of picking your helmet is fit. If it's too tight, then you wil loose concentration if it gets uncomfortable. If its too 'baggy' then spending £400+ won't make any difference, it will still fall off in force of an impact. Your primary concern needs to be safety, and COST does not necessarily mean better safety. Agreed, a top quality helmet will give you great features, and comfort. But not always protection. Just pay a visit to the sharp.gov web page to see some very interesting results. I got my 13yo daughter (a very infrequent visitor to the pillion on my bike) a Box helmet for £40, it scores four stars for safety and she likes the colour! My personal helmet is a Shark, it cost me over £200, but again scored four star for safety, but it offers a better quality, comfort, and sound resistance, over the cheap (but safe) Box helmet. The Caberg 'Duke' is quite cheap, £140'ish, it's a flip front style that has passed both EU tests for being worn either open or closed. It scores a mighty five stars on the Sharp web page. When I was younger I would only ever buy Arai helmets, but I wonder if they trade a little on a perceived reputation. A bit like Stella Artois beer selling its product "reasuringly expensive"
  19. Has anybody tried or even owned a 'BUHEL D01 BLUETOOTH' system? Also the D02 for bike to bike chat. I tried one of these out yesterday, at the Manchester show. I was very impressed, but it was only standing next to the guy at the show! I'd be interested on feedback peeps
  20. A little old Nissan micra diesel, £30 road tax and 50+ MPG (Almost as economical as my BMW F800)
  21. Thanks guys, I think we are going to try a little higher up, and on the coast. 'Aberaeron'
  22. Title says it all really! A small group of us are planning a single night next Easter. The plan is to dig the bikes out and go for a blast. The ladies will follow in the car. 3 bikes, 3 couples. We are after a very comfy hotel maybe a bit on the cosy side, good food and friendly to bikers. I'm pretty familiar with North Wales but never really ventured into the Beacons. Any pointers will be welcome.
  23. I'm a geek, into history, model soldiers, and wargaming.
