  1. Everything seems to be working fine EAB ... I connected the assembly to the plug and moved the float with my hand and the gauge responds. I've put it all back together now and will try some more petrol in the tank. I'm hoping the 5l I put in wasn't enough to move the gauge (forever the optimist). I seem to have rather a large reserve on this one.
  2. I tested the gauge by shorting the pins and it works fine. I also cleaned out the plug so no reason why that should be a problem. Unless I am missing something I don't see the issue.
  3. OK ... bought the meter. Tested the assembly, getting 10 ohms in one position (assuming full) and about 120 ohms in the other position (assuming empty). So gauge is ok AND it would appear sending unit is OK. Would be reasonable to assume that wiring between both units is also ok. Any idea's.??
  4. Looks like they have it in stock.
  5. Looks like a trip to Halfords is on the cards. Thanks, EAB.
  6. Ok, so I put a piece of wire across the terminal of the connector, - loom side not float side - and turned the ignition on. The gauge slowly moved all the way up to full. So the issue MUST be from the float side.
  7. If you have a multimeter, set it to resistance and disconnect the float switch. Then measure the resistance of the float switch, move the float and check the resistance changes. This will tell if the float assembly is working. If ok then check the rest of the wiring back to the gauge. HTH. It would if I had a meter Sadly I don't.
  8. No Hoggs, it's a 'REAL' gauge.
  9. I pulled the float assembly this morning expecting it to be all solidly covered in Petseal. It wasn't. It moves completely smoothly and freely. Any ideas where I should look next? Was working fine before I started my little revamp job and as far as I can tell have not disturbed any electrics. All other dials and lights on the dash work fine.

    ebay shits

Flea-bay are a joke. I bought a petrol cap for my bike months ago which was advertised as 'New. Complete with fixing screws and rubber O ring'. Rather stupidly, I threw the old junk out waiting for my shiny new stuff to arrive. Cap arrived with no O ring or fixing screws. I emailed seller who said fixing screws and O ring not included for that model. Despite my continued complaining that they had advertised it as included, they wouldn't budge. I lodged a complaint with flea-bay who found 'seller had not misled buyer in any way'. Another occasion I sold a clarinet for £50. Perfect working order. THREE months after seller received it he left neg feedback saying that it arrived broken. He complained to ebay who gave him full refund! BARSTUARDS, the lot of them. Some days you're lucky, other days you're not!
  11. With regard to money, depends if the missus gets her own way or not. I would be looking at around £500 for shed leaving me £4500 for bike ... the ever practical mostly gets her own way missus, says f**k the cost of shed and pay what you need for shed and spend that much less on a bike. Can't make her realise that if they want the bike they'll get it. I would prefer something I can move around in though ... something like 10' x 8' would mean that I could still do little maintenance jobs and keep a toolbox handy. Anything less and it would be too cramped.
  12. ok ... So it looks like the two options are either metal shed and lag the roof with foam or pay twice the price for a decent wood shed. The decent sized and well constructed sheds are bloody expensive. Plenty to think about. Cheers guys.
  13. cheers guys ... condensation even if plenty of ventilation is created?
  14. I could have fort nox and if they want it, they'll get it. I don't worry too much on looks just more practical.
  15. So I am going to be looking for a new shed to keep the bike in. The current one is really old and falling apart. What are your thoughts on metal sheds? Or shall I stick with wooden?
  16. Now that would be usefull because I will need templates to populate over and over again. Thanks.
  17. exactly why I am going to run the tank down and take the float out first. Then just work on the float ... if it gums, I can clean it off before putting it back in.
  18. I was told Nitromers ... I have some in the shed so will give it a go! Quite embarrassing really but I wont do that again that's for sure!
  19. Yeah ... I know that it isn't everyones friend but I did put a bit of redex in the tank and dragged that through too. But she is running. Now just got to sort out my stupid bloody petseal cockup with the float. lol
  20. Didn't need to take carbs off. Yesterday was 'pissistant' rain so didn't do anything. Today the sun was shinning so I took the cover off and put the key in. It started and chugged but this time kept chugging so I sprayed a bit more carb cleaner into the carbs and she gradually picked up. By lunch time she was running and ticking over almost as she did before. Friday I am off work so I am going to give her a bit of a blast to clear out her sinuses, so to speak. Well chuffed.
  21. More likely that they all got A's because I f**ked up the excel formulae
  22. I think, THINK, I've done it guys
  23. Thanks Mark. Will take a look at this. I wish I didn't have to but my boss wants all this data displayed so that he can see it and I need to ammend with the minimum of fuss!
  24. Joe: Can we combine IF with AND? I can do when this AND this occurs do this with your help I have managed IF this occurs do this but IF different_this occurs do different_this What I need to finish it is IF this occurs AND this occurs do this but, IF different_this occurs AND different_this occurs do different_this Does that make sense?
  25. Thanks Joe. That works great. I really need to get my head around conditional formatting. I'd be able to do so much more then.
