Thinking of getting a dash cam. Never had one before so any recommendations? For or against. Would be nice to know what to avoid too.
  3. That's what I was thinking. I might look at the simple stuff; bottle of REDEX, good blast, EGR valve, clean Air filter etc ... Then say she's on her own!
  4. This is an old 54 plate. 120 000 miles and not looked after at all. She's had it about five years and has not done a single service or repair on it since we separated ... nearly four year now! Hence if I can squeeze it through the MOT for her I can forget it for another year and it'll cost me less. I am being somewhat selfish here but she doesn't look after them. She ran it on low oil, red light on for a couple of days because couldn't be bothered to put oil in. More than once too!
  5. Yes I have Six. Coincidentally,
  6. Thanks guys. Lot to think about.
  7. Interesting. Was that Zafira?
  8. Gonna take out air filter and push some REDEX through ... might work!
  9. Zafira 54 plate 2.0 diesel Ex took her car for MOT yesterday. Failed. Brake pads and bulbs ... easy fix. Oil leak ... severe enough should be able to find. But, she has black smoke on heavy revving, and she told me for about a year there has been no power on acceleration ... fine on the flat just no guts on incline or accelerating. Down to a crawl on anything more than a moderate incline. So I checked the obvious, turbo is clean, no oil inside and vanes are free with no abnormal movement. Now I'm thinking injector or fuel pump or maybe just general crap in engine. Thought about running a good dollop of REDEX through. Any other thought? I have till the end of May or she's scrapping it and buying a new one. I already give her enough money can't afford or want the hassle of her nagging for more - which she will. HELP ME! Please!
  10. Well, if you are going to hide it, Joe. Hardly a fair test is it?
  11. Got one. Thanks guys.
  12. I would have had to get the dirt out somehow. The water is easy. remove all fitting and gently direct a heat gun at the lens. The water will evaporate and leave the unit via the holes where the bulbs go. But I would have to deal with the nasty crack and dirt! I'm going to buy a second hand one.
  13. Bought the £20 one TimR. Can't go wrong at that price. I can buff the haze! Cheers for the link. I've been searching ebay for days and came up with nothing that cheep!
  14. Haha ... sorry guys, you are all wrong. Its a Volvo S60 2006
  15. Excellent suggestion. Thank you Joeman!
  16. Cheers Tiggie. I might need to find a way to fill the hole at the top first so I might try clear silicon first Gorilla if that doesn't work, then polish.
  17. Thanks guys. I'll try anything to start with. Bloody expensive new and seconds are £130
  18. Ok, for you knowledgeable car mechanics ... Have you ever managed to repair a break this bad? I can't find the plastic lens part (they are available, just can't find one) and I am reluctant to spend £130+ on a complete unit if it's not necessary. Your thoughts guys and gals!
  19. See when I was at school once you were post-16 if you didnt put in the work or failed to turn up you werent really nagged about it, other than to be told that you may as well expect a fail. Obviously the school (i did A levels) would prefer you to get at least a C but their words were 'if you want to be an adult we will treat you like one' and that included learning about responsibility for your own study and whether you pass or fail. In my view post 16 should be dealt with like this now. Unfortunately, the success of the education provider has little to do with the student's success these days. It is predominantly about about funding and less about results. If they don't turn up, college looses the funding - bad college. If they turn up all year but fail, college gets funding and a pat on the back for good attendance and retention!

  22. Sounds like she'd be a perfect replacement for our current PM !
  23. Glad you managed to stay safe. Doesn't bare thinking about what could have happened. It riles me up whenever I see or hear about other truckers being such selfish and dangerous d'heads. From personal experience it seems to be the skip, tipper and bulk drivers that most often have that F U attitude. Nowadays, it's so easy for the authorities to penalise any driver with a CPC that most of us have a little respect for traffic laws and other road users ( even the impatient ones who think they're special). My father-in-law was an LGV driver and we had many 'conversations' about the ar*ehole standard of driving. Like, driving inches from the bumper in front; taking up the middle lane to overtake regardless of what is there; thinking they own the road with bullyboy tactics. His response was always look at the size of my lorry ... they'll get out of the way. What if they don't? I'd asked. So you're happy to put someone's son or daughter in their grave because you're a bully in your big shinny truck! They'll get out of the way was his only response. Well, I said, what if it was Marie? (His daughter, my ex wife) Oh, don't, Paul! I got from him ... And, I continued, what if your grandchildren were their too? He was quiet and very contemplative for several days after that ... doubt it made any lasting impression though. Many, not all, lorry drivers are bullies with that 'they'll get out of my way' attitude!
  24. I've got six academic years left till I retire ... assuming we haven't raised it from 66 years old then, so I'll just suffer it out!
