This happens to me occasionally (about once every week or two) on my YBR125. The engine cuts out for a few seconds and the light is flashing, then it fires up again on its own. I commute 70 miles a day on it. Also, it never starts first time. I have to press the electric start button up to 6 times before it starts - the starter motor turns over, but when it doesn't start and I let go of the button, the engine warning light starts flashing? I can hear what I think is the fuel pump though. It always gets going, just never right away.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Haven't ridden for a few weeks, but tightened the chain last night and it was back to normal today. Thanks for the advice.

Cheers guys. I'll tighten the chain and see if it makes a difference.

Hi all, I wonder if anyone can suggest what is causing a rattling noise with my bike, a Yamaha YBR 125. When I let go of the throttle, a strange rattling noise comes from somewhere underneath me. If I coast with the clutch in and the bike in gear, the noise still happens. However, if I coast with the bike in neutral, no noise! When I change gear, the rattling starts as I pull the clutch in, stops for the split second when I'm changing gear, then starts again until I let the clutch out. I think it's getting worse and I assume it's the gearbox, but I know very little about the mechanics of a bike. Thanks

All sorted now. Thanks again.

What, as in angle the screwdriver and just tap the top of it?

Aaaaaaaahhhhhhh I went to take the cover/faring off earlier so I could sort it, and I've only gone and shredded the screw! Looks like I'll have to take it in to the garage now.

Just the switch mate. I'll give it a spray tomorrow. Thank you so much for taking the time to help. I am in your debt.
-
Well mate, thanks to your info I've found out it's the rear brake switch. After pulling it and messing with it the brake light went off. I pressed the brake, and it came back on, staying on! So, to see this through to its conclusion, how do I stop it from sticking? Would a little squirt of WD40 do the job do you reckon? cheers

Thanks for this mate. I'll have a look and try and work it out when it's light tomorrow. Cheers.

thanks, that sounds great. I appreciate it.

Thanks Tango. Tbh I haven't got a clue where to start with that. Better get that Haynes manual everyone's been telling me to get!

Bought a new bulb. It seems that both filaments in the bulb are on. I'm guessing there is a filament for the normal rear light (which stays on) and one for the brake light. Does them both being on permanently mean that there is a problem with the wiring? Possibly a brake cable is too tight or something causing the brake light to stay on? Are these problems gonna cost much to fix? Thanks

Thanks chaps. I'll buy a new bulb tomorrow. Bit of a noob!

I bought a ybr125 the other day. I may have a safety issue, in that it doesn't seem to have a brake light. Should the rear light go brighter when I use one of the brakes? Just wondering if there should be some kind of brake light. Thanks

Thanks for the replies. Gives me a good idea of what to do. Next on the shopping list is a Haynes manual. Cheers.

Hi all, I done my CBT on Saturday morning, and bought a YBR125 on Saturday afternoon. Being the type of person I am, I'll take pride in maintaining the bike and doing as much of the periodic work on it as possible myself. All I need to do now is learn how to do it! My question is, what maintenance would you suggest I start doing myself, rather than getting a friend or paying a garage to do? I'm picturing myself wearing oil stained overalls with bike parts strewn across the garden, and I can't wait! Thanks, Peter
