Not sure if you heard the news @Six30
Fossil fuel engines are to be banned from 2030. Carmakers (and motorbike) are bringing all electric vehicles forward to 2025.
Don't expect to have petrol available much longer than that.
Petrol/Diesel new cars are to stop being made by 2030 but the ones on the road will still be fine to use for many years to come.
While new cars and vans will move over to electric in that timeframe I don’t think it will happen for motorcycles or HGVs that fast l, they’re quite far behind development wise compared to cars and both have unique challenges to overcome.
I’ve driven a few electric cars, I liked them and I’d be fine driving one, if not for the cost!, although when the Model 3 has depreciated a bit more I will make the switch.
At the same time I like ICE cars as well and I’d favour an ICE motorbike and plan to keep one for as long as it’s viable.
I couldn’t say if I’d like an electric bike without riding one but I think it would detract from the experience at the moment.

And what's the personal worst
We know which is most fun
On the Yamaha?, pretty consistent about 30 is the worst.Worst bike I’ve had for fuel was an RSV4, it reckoned its average was 25 the whole time!.
I’m doing a track day in July so I’ll keep you posted how bad it gets on that-definately the most fun too!.

And how would you rate them to the dino fuel equivalents?
Bit of a tricky one given how expensive they are and what ICE cars you can get for that money, they're quieter and I think as a commuter they would be a nicer place to be compared to some ICE cars, instant torque is great and they're different to drive, acceleration is tremendous in some of them, particularly the Model S P100D, I'd honestly be very worried on my R1 up to legal motorway speeds.
I was doing some agency work and delivering them on a truck, along with some very nice ICE cars so I didn't get to drive most of them that far to make a real world comparison for say a week or anything.
I did drive the Model S and X properly though and the E Tron for a 45minutes-1 hour each and honestly I could live with any of them, sadly they're rather unaffordable for me though!.

Have you driven any electric vehicles yet?
I have, all the Teslas-X,S,3, Audi E Tron and Jag iPace.
Teslas had the best tech, performance and range but the worst interior, Audi was fast enough and had a nice interior, Jag was ok but I’d not buy one over the others.

I’m still liking mine a lot, if you find a well looked after one that’s good value I’d say take a punt on it, even if it does crap itself you’ll get most of your money back.
Or do the sensible thing and buy a Landcruiser, I’ve had one before and they’re great too!.

Good luck with it all, starting a business is a brave but rewarding decision, I hope it goes well for you.

First expense. Granddaughter is getting no help from school with home schooling equipment so apparently grandad is purchasing a laptop, great, I've been reliably informed that's what grandads are for Hmmmmm.
6.30 this morning, daughter via WhatsApp via wife, boilers dead, why 6.30am, cause house is freezing, when did it go off, oh yesterday FFS, apparently that's my job too.
I don't like this week and it's only monday.
I do feel bad for you, boilers going wrong are never good, although every cloud has a silver lining, just think, you could have bought that Range Rover you were considering and it could have crapped itself!.
(Mine has been fine so far other than that prop bearing and a £100 AC pipe and regas)

Take the car, the roads are pretty quiet at the moment if you need to get to work, you won’t get frozen, risk coming off on ice or getting your bike covered in road salt.

im on a forum for them but it's very quiet now not like it used to be 5 years ago
Do they still have the CB500 cup?, I guess quite a few have been bought and crashed for that, as well as just age and people not wanting them anymore.
Shame really, like I say I liked the one I had briefly-it was in 2012/2013.
I also passed my test on one years ago too!.

The biggest issue with 125's are that most don't have the max bhp allowed, if you look at the specs most are around 10 bhp, some are around 12 but very few actually have the full 15bhp. What would make sense would be to increase the limit to around 18bhp and actually have it there to use.
I feel a bit sorry for teen riders these days, my 30+ BHP 125 felt epic back in the day and smelt better .To be fair though the newer 4 stroke ones are much less likely to go bang!.

yes i have had both the 99 cb 500 naked and a 91 xj 600
I pretty much got given a CB500 that needed a bit of work back when I had an S1000RR, rode it a few times after I’d sorted it and although they’re very different bikes from different eras I honestly quite liked it, I know what I’d rather commute on!. -

I once wanted to get a ZXR750 many years ago, couldn't afford it though... Awesome bike.
I had a go on a friends ZXR400, really liked it but that’s the closest I’ve got to owning one.
I’ve always really liked the look of them, especially in green/blue/white with the pipes out of the fuel tank, just looks so cool!.

Not entirely true!
I wouldn't be able to do a 2 week trip to Europe on a 125 with luggage and a pillion
Well, you probably could but it would turn into a 4 week trip and be quite unpleasant.....
Nothing wrong with 125s though, it’s just use the right tool for the job I suppose, fwiw I wouldn’t want to do a 2 week European trip on my bike either, it would be horrible!.

i had a mate who used to despatch in london and one of his bikes was an xj 600
I’d sooner be commuting on one of them every day than a sports bike to be honest, the old Honda CB500s would be a good shout too.

Possibly thinking about making this my last year of riding on the road and track converting the R1 next winter, not sure yet though.

Thanks everyone for sharing your thoughts, in terms of parking Yes, I have a place, that was one of the biggest issues for me but I have found a safe and secure place. and at work I have a secure place to park also. so that's sorted.
I know R6 seems a bit out of this world for a daily commute, but I guess my hunger will fade once I ride it for a while and most likely change into something that is far more comfortable. I will take notes from what you guys are saying, it's just you know, once you have your eyes set on something for a while, you don't want anything else. Most of the concerns I hear are comfort & I'm okay to sacrifice that for a little while. I'm used to riding sporty and uncomfortable cars I know it's not the same but still.. it's just a thrill.
I'm just worried about rainy days, but I've been told not to worry too much about it and just get on with it haha
If you do have secure parking then that's one less obstacle for getting the R6 as it will be safe, the last thing anyone wants to come back to is their bike not being where they left it.
As far as comfort and commuting go, I did a couple of weeks commuting on a Panigale V4, it was do able but completely unenjoyable, an R6 won't be nearly as bad, except for the comfort.

and then you will have to buy a nice big cave to put them all in
Of course, and it would have to be somewhere with decent weather so I could ride a different one every day .

For sure nothing wrong with an RC45
It sure has no ABS or other helpers and loads of torque to remove you from your seat, but when you get it right it definitely is something special
If I had a lottery win I'd probably have a 916,RC45,R7,ZXR750 and an RS250 and NSR250 all parked next to each other really like most of the 90s exotic sports bikes.
-
Sportsbikes are great, I love riding one, in London every day though?, no thanks, honestly with that commute I'd probably get a big scooter or a naked/upright bike or a Supermoto, not to mention an R6 will be very desirable to thieves.
If it were me I'd get something old and cheap that you're not too bothered about and keep the R6 for fun weekend blasts.
