  1. Be careful of your insurance whatever route you take. I declared on my insurance for 3 years that I used a ground anchor in the garage, which was fine and have me a small discount on my premium. However when I renewed last and was talking to the agent they revealed that because I've declared that I use a chain to lock my bike up at home they would expect me to carry it round with me aswell, so if my bike was stolen while out and about they might not pay out. My answer was to remove the ground anchor from the insurance, I'm not carrying a several kilo xhain with me everywhere I go

  2. Hi All. Only just joined but coming to the rally for the 2nd time. I am the plus 1 on AndyPF04.

    hello again :D welcome!

Andy's dad I presume? be good to see you again!

Yea, he's got weekend release from my Mum and their Grandchildren babysitting duties :D :D :D

  3. I just got a set of Knox jeans, and they seem awesome so far! Really good tapered fit, better than most of my non-bike jeans, very generous kevlar distribution (ie. all encompassing down to top-of-boot level), and the CE armour pockets are accessed from the outside via very well hidden zips so you can convert them to 'normal' jeans once you arrive at your destination without having to strip in public

Hopefully won't be crash testing them, though!

    Thanks

And I thought public stripping down to all in one under garments was one of the joys of motorbike travel........ Or is that only supposed to be special occasions

  4. I have a pair of bull-it jeans, not the same as these. The water repellent works pretty well, as with everything though it'll need to be re-applied on occasion.

I found that the knee pads sat a little high so ended up swapping them a couple of times until I could comfortably sit on the bike and the pads sat in the right place. Best thing is to go to the shop and try them on and if you can, get the inserts in them and sit on your bike to ensure they sit in the right place.

But so far I can't complain, they're comfortable and warm/cool.

I will say go for a nicely fitting pair as they do loosen up pretty quickly.

    Cheers for info :D

  5. NO! NO, BAD RANT! NO CHALLENGE!

I'm thinking something along the lines of a sandwich board with a fake Daily Mail cover story on each side with a headline saying "WORLD GRAVY SUPPLIES RUN OUT FOREVER"

And I'll wear my special suit underneath it, of course

    We probably won't be going.

    I'm working.

Rant. My kids would scare you daft lad.....lol

Well that didnt elscalate at all..... :D  :D  :D

  6. Still need to sort a costume! Having to downsize, my original plan was based on making Crystal carry some of the crap... need to travel light now that she's not going!

Maybe I should just make some minor changes to my costume from last year

Dont cut anything away as an alteration........

I already have a big old rip in the crotch - right next to the zip :crybaby:

    Hope there are no kids this year lol

  8. Hey,

Thinking of buying a pair of these

They have the level 2 ce rating and look to be the best thing on the market (for jeans anyway)

Does anyone have them? Are they worth the £240, as opposed to the Bull-It SR6 at £130?

Also, has anyone come off wearing the cheap kevlar jeans, how did they perform?

    Thanks.

    Andy

  9. Cheers for the suggestions guys,

I did try turning my head a few different ways while riding, but the droplets seemed to be stuck like glue to the visor, and the fine mist from the lorries wasn't shifting either, and when wiped with the shammy bit on my glove just smeared across it, so I think I will try that spray.

I understand that when your on a bike in hard rain, your not gonna stay 100% dry, but when you are soaked after only 12 miles in a jacket that says waterproof there is something wrong I think, because I'm not saying I had a couple of damp patches, I wrung my shirt out when I got home, it absolutely p$%^&d through it lol, I was drier after the ice bucket challenge. The tops of my shoulders and my back were dry though, so that is something :? although the shoulder armour was damp. So the jacket is is going back, and Ill look at getting another one.

  10. IME experience (and I have a lot of it riding in the rain) unless you spend tons of money, get a waterproof over jacket like the Spada 912 unlined for about £40.

As for the visor, Nickwax Visor Proof spray for about £6 lasts the longest, which is still only a few trips per application. It makes the water bead and then the wind blows it off.

My trousers are spada come to think of it, and nothing came through them, so if the jackets are as good quality they should be sound.

I'll have a look at the Nickwax spray, It got pretty dangerous tbh with my visor the way it was, the water was going into beads, but they were not running off, even at fairly high speed, and also the fine mist coming off other cars just stuck to it like glue!!!

    Thanks for the advice :D

  11. Hey,

Just took my bike for a ride in the rain for the first time at motorway speed, did this on purpose because I start commuting on it in a couple of weeks and wanted to make sure I wasn't gonna get too cold and or soaked.

Got 6 miles and was drenched, every zip, including the air vent ones which were shut, let water straight through, and by time I got home water was coming straight through the material.

Its an oxford textile jacket and I'm gonna be taking it back.

So any suggestions for a replacement jacket which will keep me dry(ish)?

Also, what's the best way to stop water beading on my visor? Seen suggestions for everything from white vinegar to furniture polish, what works best in an experienced riders opinion?

    Cheers :)
