  1. And to complete the Grimsby trio don't let it get you down, I was gutted when I failed my Mod 1 and felt really down but then 7 days later I have a full Cat A licence, you will get there as I can sense your shear determination, stick with it and in the ned when you pass you will be over the moon
  2. Joeman is correct but I will also add that when I am on roundabouts and turn off after the left shoulder check I always do a right one as well you never know what idiot is going to try and squeeze past you. They are free so be safe and check as much as you feel you need to
  3. If I am reading the right are you asking which shoulder you should check after you leave the roundabout ??? or entering the roundabout ???
  4. Congratulations guys really pleased for you its even better when you have a full licence
  5. Morning Everyone. I have been offered a 1993 Suzuki GSX650 F with 38k on the clock for £400, it has no MOT and has been SORN as the owner has a second bike and works 12 hour shifts so can't be bothered with it. The problem is that it does run but from what I understand it runs rough, the chap selling thinks its just a HT Lead fault, any suggestions that I can look into or possibilities of what it could be, apparently the carbs where cleaned out not long ago but at the moment I don't know who buy weather it was a garage, himself or a friend but I presume it was ok after this was done. Cheers in advance Stan.
  6. I passed my mod 2 on Monday craynerd at the end of the test the examiner said I could leave everything with him and he will send it all off or if you need your licence you can do it yourself but it may take longer to come back. If the DSA do it for you then you keep your certificate as proof of passing, if you decide to do it yourself you have to send the certificate off to the DVLA with your licence (thus losing your proof of passing), I agree with Deso let the examiner send it off for you it saves so much hassle. Also I did hear (not sure how true it is) you only have 2 years to send your licence off after passing, if you fail to do so you have to start all over again from CBT , save yourself any hassle and let the examiner do it for you
  7. Good for you Ste, Really please for you not letting an injury get in the way of what you want to do.
  8. Thanks everyone I'm over the moon, It felt so good riding around on my 125 with no L-plates on anymore And now I'm iin the process of selling my Varadero now then I can really start bike hunting
  9. Haha just a test ride mate, just a test ride, I was actually surprised when he let me on it as he knew I had only just passed my test
  10. Great news I sat my mod 2 test at 08:10 this morning for the first time and passed with 3 minors, the first minor was for doing 40 when I could have been doing 50 and the second was for doing 20 in a 30 zone (we were near a school at that point and I wasn't 100% sure of the speed limit better be safe than sorry), the final was for road positioning at some point. Not really bothered now though can't believe its all over bar the bike hunting now, already been for a test ride on a Kawasaki ZZR 1200 , a very nice bike but not for me after 20 mins the palms of my hands were starting to hurt, not sure if that's my gloves or just the weight of me on the grips. Really chuffed and over the moon can't seem to stop smiling
  11. Woo Hoo after last weeks misery of failing mod 1 on a poxy U-turn I passed this morning with 2 minors, I know one of them was for doing 49 on the avoidance exercise the other was marked against the emergency stop but says I was doing 54 kph so not sure what it was for (don't really care anymore just pleased Mod 1 is out of the way) . Also congratulations to Lerm for passing her Mod 1 yesterday bring on Mod 2 and lets get this over with
  12. Yep sure did Joeman it was going slightly uphill but did work
  13. Well Guys and Gals, Been out for a couple of hours tonight to try and fathom out the problem I had on my Mod 1 test, I started in a car park again and had rather a lot of attempts (all good may I add). Then I went on to the street and various other car parks still all going well , so it was killing me as why was I so bad on the test I have done well over 100 U-turns today on my 125 and all have been perfect. Whilst this is a good thing its annoying not knowing why it went pear shaped last week. So on the way home I had to nip to Morrisons still thinking what went wrong ??? then I wondered was it because the fence of at the test centre was in front of me and it was another obstacle I was faced with that I had not experienced ??? As I was leaving Morrisons I saw the entrance that the wagons go through (2 huge gates), I measured the road with my tape measure a good 8 meters. So I measured away 6.5 meters from the kerb (I realise I am allowed 7.5 but thought if I can do it in 6.5 then the test centre should have acres of room) and placed a cone then placed another cone about 8 meters from the first. So with the gate in front of me it simulated the U-turn area at the test centre, also it was on a bit of a hill which meant when I went back up if I didn't have enough revs it made me power out rather than put my foot down http://i600.photobucket.com/albums/tt88/staningrimsby/Motorbikes/Honda%20Varadero%20125%20v9/U-TurnPractice.jpg All in all I have done over 100 U-turns today with not a single error, just hoping its the same when my re-test date comes through.
  14. Well Guys I thought I would pop out for a couple of hours on my baby Vara this morning before everyone got up and practice a few u-turns. I started off in a pub car park using the width of 3 bays which is roughly 7.5 mtrs, then moved to the road where we did our CBT u-turns then once again back to a car park in Cleethorpes, all told I must have done around 60 u-turns and not an issue with any of them . Going to go out again later just hoping I don't bottle it on re test day.
  15. Just a quick one please folks, After my Mod 1 failure last week for putting my foot down during the U-Turn I have been racking my brain as to why it happened as other than that everything else was fine I have done the U-turn loads of times with no problems. The only thing I could think of was that I did my checks prior to moving off then pulled away slowly, checked again before starting the turn, now I am not sure if I was going to slow thus losing balance or I tried turning to soon after checking again losing balance so my question is if I don't do the shoulder check prior to the turn does that go down as a minor or is it a fail ??? As I cant think of any other reason that my foot went down, going out to practice again tomorrow but its on my 125 and its totally different then the 650 I was on but I do want to be ready when I eventually get a re-test date again
  16. You go for it scaredylady just relax and take a few deep breaths you can do this and were all rooting for you, I admire your persitance and it proves that you want to ride a bike or you would have given up by now, just think of the grin factor you will have when you have that certificate in your hand
  17. Thanks Lerm, All the best for Tuesday let us know how it goes
  18. I am 6' 4" so don't normally have a problem pushing the bike around but I was told that the choice is yours on how you do the manual handling in one sweeping motion or the 3 point turn, I chose the 3 point turn as well as MissBex its a lot easier although make sure you do the over exaggerated shoulder checks they want to see . Good Luck and don't put your feet down on the U-turn
  19. Just a bit gutted Paul, Was gunna text u and let you know but im in a right mood tonight hopefully the re-test will go better just wish it wasn't such a long wait, they even had me pencilled in next week for mod 2 they where that sure of the result.
  20. It was crap mate, I have never wanted something so much and to fail on such a stupid thing was awful, then I had a 25 mile ride back to Louth could feel myself filling up along the way (its like having your one wish just taken away from you at the last moment) even my instructor could not believe what happened. And that made it even worse he had previously 13 people do Mod 1 and all had passed then he met me, I felt as gutted for him as I did myself, felt like I had let him down as well. Going to get pissed tonight then work out what to do tomorrow
  21. Thanks for the info guys, I'm going to do my re-test with LMT on 20th August unless they get a cancelation in the mean time to bring it forward, I work at a school so not due back till 2nd September so there is still time. I am mainly thinking ahead if I fail again (I know I shouldn't think like that but cant help it at the mo ) cant afford to keep forking out £110 for a retest and as I do like the 650 V-Strom could kill 2 birds with 1 stone as they say.
  22. Hi Everyone, Well after todays miserable day (Failing Mod 1) I am after a little information, I currently have a Honda Varadero 125 if I sell that and bought say a Suzuki V-Strom 650 can I book my own tests at reduced costs ??? i.e. currently including bike hire etc Mod 1 re-test day will cost £110 (as they say I do not need any additional training), if I booked myself its £15.50 Mod 2 including training will be £420 or £75 if I booked it myself, I realise its a gamble but you could afford several goes at £75 if required. I do appreciate that the bike will need to be insured and have L-plates on and also need so way of getting to the test centre. What I would like to know is am I correct and is there anything else I would need to know.
