Mod 1 Fail
staningrimsby replied to staningrimsby's topic in CBT, Test and Advanced Training Information
Hi MissBex, I have been online and checked the next available dates at the local test centres and the earliest one is mid September (cant do that because of work commitments), then on top of that its a cost factor the last 2 days have just cost me £285 im gutted cos it something I can do over and over again. I can't go to far a field as I need the riding schools bike to do the test on and they only use Lincoln or Scunthorpe one option is that I sell my 125 and buy a bigger bike (I have been looking at the Suzuki V-Strom 650 for when I pass) then insure and book my tests myself as I believe Mod 1 is only £15.50 then. -
Well not a good day today had my test in Lincoln at 10:25 this morning, I was greeted by the examiner who went through my paperwork then came out to the bike with me, I kitted up as he wrote the registration down then he gave me my first instruction, everything in this area should be treated as if on a real road ensuring all observations are made correctly. then go through the gate and park in one of the bays facing the fence turn off the engine and place the bike on it stand and wait for further instruction. No problem and off I went he came over and asked me to do the manual handling, no problem did it 3 point turn style with lots of over exaggerated checks. Slalom and figure of 8 - Off I went through the slalom like a professional on skis and into the figure of 8, two turns later and im being called over all is going well. Slow Ride - Easy peasy exactly what it says on the tin. U-Turn - I have heard a lot of people worried about this so I have practiced, practiced and practiced some more in a local car park, a few checks and I pull away, a quick glance over the shoulder and begin to turn.......that's when it happened for some unknown reason whilst I was turning not enough power and my foot went down I was absolutely gutted I knew it was all over I carried on with the rest of the test knowing I had failed performed the controlled stop with ease than was asked to turn the bike round facing the cones as I was near the U-turn area decided to do it within the lines (just to prove I could), then onto the emergency stop round I went but never made the speed so had to try again (once again a U-turn within the lines) round the second time no problem. Finally onto the hazard avoidance round the cones I went 47kph so round again (another U-turn within the lines, by this point im hoping he can see I had done 3 and it was just nerves but sadly no ) second time on the hazard avoidance 51kph. To cut a long story short that one nervous mistake on the U-turn has now cost me another £110 for a re-test that they cant get me in for at either Scunthorpe or Lincoln till the end of August. Feel really gutted and disappointed, really wanted this so much now it all seems like its gone to sh*t.

I really don't understand how it can be a negative for not reaching the speed limit, if it says 40 and your doing 34 says surely that cant be a negative as the speed limit is a maximum not a minimum or a suggested speed as long as your not doing 20 say in a 40 and holding up traffic cant see the problem myself. -

Good luck with it Glorian mine is only 2 days later -
I used this site; http://www.camrider.com/ If you have an apple or android device they have an app for £2.49 it had 99% of the questions and most of the hazard perception clips where also on it, I passed easily and was dreading the hazard perception

No not been to a DSA test site at all, I'm doing an intensive course which consists of the following; 1. 2 hours getting used to a 600cc bike 2. 3 hours Mod 1 training 3. Test the next morning. I have been practicing myself though but only on the slow manoeuvres not enough room to practice the faster one s will have to hope for the best when the training starts. -
Hi guys, Well I have my Mod 1 in 16 days time and have been practicing as much as I can when possible around 3 times a week, I have been doing quite well but tonight realised that when I was doing the U-turn as I start off then do the shoulder check I seem to drift over to the left, is it something I'm doing wrong that I can try and correct before my test ??? I did think is the bike leaning that way slightly when I set off or is it just a natural movement ?? Cheers in advance. Stan.

Hi Guys, Well Mod 1 is getting ever closer and Mod 2 will not be far behind if all goes well, I am not to concerned with the Mod 2 side of things as most of it is riding as far as I am aware, I am very consistent with life savers etc the only thing I am aware of that I don't do as much as I should is check my mirrors to often. I also understand there is a 'free riding' part where the instructor will ask you to follow road signs to a destination, as I have always relied on my sat nav this is the bit that concerns me. As my test will be in Grimsby just wanted to ask how this works and where the Grimsby Mod 2 folks were asked to go (see if there is any kind of patter). Regards Stan.

Mod 1 advice please
staningrimsby replied to staningrimsby's topic in CBT, Test and Advanced Training Information
Well been out since 5:30 practicing in an old car park armed with a bunch of cones , started with the manual handling routine moving my bike from one parking bay to the next but one parking bay. Then placed 5 of the cones approx. 3.5 mtrs apart ready for the slalom (I know I am aloud 4.5 mtrs but thought if I could do it my way test day sure have loads more room), followed by 2 cones 5 mtrs apart for the figure of 8, (once again I do realise I am aloud 6 mtrs, but same reason applies). Had a few practice goes and seem to be able to manage both tasks with or without the brake (although with it is much easier). Then set up 2 cones to aim for on the slow ride that would take me into the U-turn, did find that having the cones there did make the slow ride easier , then tried the U-turn within 3 parking bays which equates to 7.5 mtrs, I can easily do it in 6 mtrs so not concerned with that. The only thing I can't practice is the speed maneuvers , I do try accelerating to 30 mph then performing the controlled stop and it seems to go well from my point of view (I don't fall off or put both feet down ). Got my Mod 1 test date today so I do have a bit more practice time yet thankfully -
As I have completed the CBT and Theory parts of training the next step is Mod 1 but I have 2 questions for those in the know; The first question is on the slow maneuvers are you allowed to ride the rear brake for stability or are you expected to only use it when required, I only ask as when on my CBT I was told to ride the rear brake on all slow maneuvers but I sa something on the internet that says this is not allowed on the Mod 1 test ??? The second and final question is whilst I feel competent in the slalom, figure of 8 and U-turn I am a bit wobbly on the straight line ride would this cause me to fail if I can't correct it or would it go down as a minor ?? Cheers Stan.

I know everybody will say don't stress about it and relax but we all know its not that easy , Just remember that your not on a test and the instructors are not looking to fail you they just want to ensure that you are safe to ride on the public highway, if you try to relax and take it in your stride it will all fall into place, there is no hurry when doing the maneuvers do it in your own time i.e. when asked to do the U-turn, stop take a few breaths and go when your ready nobody will tell you off for being to careful. Good luck on your next attempt (I do think your right not telling anyone as that puts more pressure on you to pass) I didn't tell anyone when I did mine or when I did my theory test, and I wont mention my mod 1 unless I pass. -
Intensive Training
staningrimsby replied to staningrimsby's topic in CBT, Test and Advanced Training Information
Well just spoken to Airfield Training and they don't do intensive training, I explained my situation and she didn't seem bothered to be honest, think I may have to go elsewhere, phoned LMT and they said £285 for 8 hours training then the mod 1 test the next day then after that its £420 for 1 days training the Mod 2 test the next day. -
Intensive Training
staningrimsby replied to staningrimsby's topic in CBT, Test and Advanced Training Information
Yeh I have Deso they don't do them anymore, but there last lesson on a weekday is 4 till 5 and I don't get out of work until 4, the boss will let me out a couple of times early but not all the time, and I have a second job on the docks at weekends but don't know until the Friday before if I'm working at which point its to late to book a lesson. That's why it would be so much easier for me to take a week off and do the intensive course. -
I hate to ask this as the people at my training school are really nice but as I work all week and most weekends I don't have a lot of spare time to fit lessons in. Does anybody know of a training school in the Grimsby, Scunthorpe or Louth area that does intensive training over a period of a week or so as this would be much easier for me to manage.

Good luck for tomorrow, I hope it all goes well for you and don't forget to let us know what happens. I can't wait till I get to that stage how many lessons have you had before getting to this point if you don't mind me asking ?? -
How long did it take ??
staningrimsby replied to staningrimsby's topic in CBT, Test and Advanced Training Information
Certainly will Deso, I have Gary as my instructor but due to them being in high demand can't get my next lesson till 2 July now, he said he wants us to go for a good ride out on the Kawasaki then the next lesson will start getting ready for Mod 1 (I have practised the Mod 1 exercises a lot on my 125 so hopefully I will be in for that sooner rather then later). -

Thanks for that I'm going to nip in tomorrow to try an sort my lessons for next month might have to be 1 hour ones tho cos at 1 a week even 1 hour lessons work out at £144 per month. When I spoke to Gary yesterday he did say we will go for a good run on the bike next time then start on the mod 1 stuff, I think I have that pretty much sorted so hope its not to long for Mod 1
