  1. I think the reason i'm having so much trouble is that the bearings have been in there since 1989. The rear wheel bearings came out relatively easy while the front ones didn't budge at all. The front cost me 6 flat head s/drivers, two decent drifts, one side of a claw hammer and a bent crowbar. I managed to get them out, but, my wheel is beyond dead as a result. Gave up and just bought a new one without bearings in. The swing am bearings were pretty dead too. But, they came out with a couple of decent whacks. There was a ridiculous amount of copper grease covering that bearing though.
  2. Seems like a plan to me. What could go wrong? ahaha
  3. Seems like a plan. Heat it with what though? It's not exactly something I can just chuck in the oven.
  4. Fair enough. Bearings are a pain in the ass. I will give it a try with new drifts and perhaps a slightly smaller hammer. If that doesn't yield a satisfactory result, it's off to the garage.
  5. HI all. Just trying to remove many, many bearings from my VFR. The issue I have is that drifts and flat screwdrivers just don't seem to do the trick. After snapping 6 flat s/drivers and obliterating a rather expensive front wheel I have decided to invest in the proper tools. Now, my question is, what is the best tool for the job? Would a standard Halfords gear/bearing puller do the trick? Also, what other options do I have? Thanks, ride safe.
  6. Looks pretty good to me. Still stuck on colour and what finish though. I don't want to have to go through all this again haha
  7. That's a pretty dang nice combination there One of these days, mine might look as good as that. The body work has gone off for spraying now after I repaired all the cracks and splits. took bloody ages haha.
  8. All good info! Thanks Well, at least I know what i'm doing at the weekend then haha.
  9. Works for me. After all, you never know until you try
  10. That's either true or a way of lulling me into a false sense of security. I'm unsure as to which that is
  11. Fair enough. I think I will take my time over this one seeing as the clutch is a rather important part of the machine! haha
  12. Now I guess the question is... What type? EBC SRC or EBC SRK?
  13. Well, that's settled that EBC it is then. Anyone ever done the clutch on the NC30? I've heard that removing the starter clutch is a pain in the ass.
  14. I've had a hunt around and come across some Gecko plates for £40. That's friction and steel plates in one pack. Ever used them?
  15. I was afraid someone was going to say that. Urggh. Might as well just buy the whole thing then. Any ideas how much of a pain this is going to be?
  16. Hello everyone. As the first gear on the NC30 is really tall, my clutch has taken a right hammering. As a result, I am looking at replacing it. My question here is, is it ok to just replace the friction plates? I would rather not replace the whole damn thing if I can avoid it due to being damned expensive for a genuine Honda clutch. Thanks in advance for any help
  17. Mine runs like a dream when cold but, not for very long. She decided to almost not start at all this morning. Groggy and useless on the way into work and on the way home decided to cut out on me on the bloody motorway of all places! Weirdly, she fired right back up and ran very well for the rest of the journey! I can't makes heads or tails of it at all! :S
  18. Oh yeah, I almost forgot. As the first gear on the VFR is ridiculously tall, my clutch has taken a right hammering. Would just replacing the friction plates be good enough? I would rather not buy the whole lot as that is a vast amount of money if i'm going genuine Honda which is what I want to do.
  19. Sounds like a plan to me. Redex it is! To the shop!!
  20. No, No I did not. Why would that all of a sudden take effect now though? It must be said, that carbs were specifically designed to infuriate anyone who wants to fix the blasted things
  21. I'm pretty dang sure everything was done up correctly. I took pictures of everything as I took it apart and matched it as I put it back together. I'm hoping that I don't have to take the damn things apart again. It was a pain in the ass last time
  22. Hi all. I recently cleaned out my carbs and she ran like a dream. However, on the way into work this morning, she started coughing and spluttering like there was no tomorrow! No power low end and gained power at different revs in very noticeable chunks. So, my question is...What the hell has happened??? Thanks in advance. Shiny side up
  23. All very helpful info. Now I just need someone to do some cheap paintwork and she will be as good as new...I hope haha
  24. Too late haha. Already discovered the source of the problem. The jets were clogged to hell so just bought new ones and soaked the carbs in a stack of carb cleaner. She runs like a dream now
  25. It's all worth a shot! Might as well start with the obvious things and slowly work towards dismantling the carbs. Cheers for all the info
