  1. Curious about this too. My instructor was hesitant to give me a straight answer. I have a bad left knee and feel more comfortable supporting the bike on my right leg. Surely there's some leeway? I do use my rear brake but once stopped right foot goes down.
  2. Sorry about that, some people don't take to it naturally, but good on you for being determined! I actually did my cbt on a scooter, because that's what I intended to ride at the time for commuting. A year later I pick up a geared bike and taught myself to shift after being off the road for about 8 months due to doing myself in underestimating a corner. You can certainly do it that way if it makes it easier, it would've been a bit to take in gears as well when I first learned, maybe go for a different school?
  3. Got a second hand fuel pump (1000 mile) to the tune of 120 squids with a garuntee... Sad when I've not had the bike for long but all seems well. It's likely the bikes always had the issue and it's probs why the seller got rid after not using it much. Been to work a few times left it out in the sun and it's starting and priming just fine. This pumps noticeably more noisy. I can hear it running when cruising slowly or stopped in traffic.
  4. Forgive me I'm a mechanical noob. But if it's only the throttle side can you flip the bars around?
  5. Yeah there is but they're asses about parking. There's no staff parking for contractors and a little spec out front of the buildings for bikes that's in direct sunlight all day.
  6. That would likely help I think but not very convieniant in work. opening the gas cap didn't help either It's going the shop tomorow I'll keep you updated.
  7. Update just tried it again after it being sat in the sun all day. Same issue, gutted. Looks like a trip to the bike shop...
  8. I only used the polish on the fairing. It's the fact the fuel pump wasn't doing it's usual whirring noise makes me doubt it. The issue is getting to work on it, I don't have much choice regarding parking so it's likely to be sat out in the sun till I go home. And if it is vapour lock, wouldn't opening the filler cap release the vacuum? Il try it if happens again.
  9. I actually didn't use water, just polish and some all purpose spray oil not wd40 but similar on the engine parts. So there shouldn't of been any water.
  10. It seems the batteries fine, as I just went out to try again and it started up without hesitating. I'll see if I have the same issue tomorow after a few hours sat in the sun.
  11. Seems like a similar problem as the other thread, but don't want to hijack. Anyway bike was just taken for a 30 mile ride, no problems stop and starting all day. Until I get it home, I was cleaning the bike and want to turn it around. I jump on and there's no usual whirring sound. But the light comes on and goes off as usual. The bike won't fire, as tho fuel isn't getting in. So I google and see there's a common fault with the temperature sensor in the fuel pump. I figure letting it cool a bit should resolve the issue as it's been a very hot day. Give it a bit of time to cool, I go to start it up. This time I can hear the pump work, but it sounds totally half assed, like it's dying. The bike fires, but as soon as I touch the throttle it dies. I do this a few times till the pump stops priming again then give up over fear of flattening the battery.. This sounds like a seperate issue, but could both these issues point to a faulty pump?
  12. Thanks very much everyone for your help. I've ordered the torque wrench should hopefully be here in a few days.
  13. Chain seems quite far out of spec, I don't have a torque wrench though. Would one of these Cheapo ones do for the axle? http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B0001K9 ... X110_SY165
  14. I've had it a couple of months. It's finicky about going into first too at a standstill, but I've heard that's normal for the ybr, I've figured out the knack to it. But the same technique doesn't work with neutral. Itd probably hit neutral properly before coming to a stop, it has no problem jumping into neutral when I meant to get into second. I'll check the cable and chain are in spec when I get some tools in. (There on the way)
  15. So my bikes been a bit funny about shifting into neutral. From first sometimes I'll get the click, the neutral light will come on but it'll still be in 1st gear. I can feel when it properly kicks into neutral. Usually takes me a few goes. But still have to let the clutch out real slow just to double check. Hoping this is a problem with the switch for the light rather than the gear box.
