  1. Just read about a pub in Burscough Lancs where they let the biker bring there pubs inside to pub...looks interesting....anybody know its name. Nick.
  2. Surprisingly I found it walk in the park...I was so nervous in the week coming up to the test...bag of nerves on the day. Its funny...soon as I rode the bike out of the test ctr gate and onto the road...all that went completely out of my head and my training kicked in... I actually enjoyed it....still cant believe that...just ride the bike and enjoy the ride. Best of luck and let us know how you go on. Nick.
  3. Hi guys i'm the OP. Passed my test some months ago...riding a very old BSA Bantam now...no probs with the wrist anymore...I think I was just tense. It was a fly be wire throttle on the bike I used for my lessons and was very light. Thanks for your help guys it help me. Nick.
  4. I was struggling with this as well...I found things where more under control if I let the bike just go with the engine at idle/tickover speed...shoulder check and look in the direction your want to go... Passed my Mod 2 last week. I also found doing the slalom and fig 8 so much easier with the engine at idle speed....covering the clutch as it need slipping a bit at times. Maynot work on all bikes but did on my 650 Kawasaki.
  5. Yippppppppeeeey...passed my mod 2 this morning....such a relief. Didn't sleep very well last night....very very nervous about it all....sitting in the test ctr waiting room my heart was pounding. Surprisingly as soon as I sat on the bike to start the test the nerves disappeared....it was like that all through the test...I think it must have been that I had to concentrate and had no room for nerves....it was a good pass with no minors at all. Such a good feeling....a big thank you to you all with your advice for me...it helped lots.... Even getting used to riding at 70mph and over taking big trucks on the duel carriageway. Thanks again guys.....now the real learning starts. Nick.
  6. It may come from driving a speed limited heavy truck for a living and a 50 year old Landrover as my daily transport...so my life tends to go at 50mph. I am getting more comfy with high speed on the bike but it not something I enjoy.
  7. Think I will have to grin and bare it...its no more than a mile the stretch you need to go fast on... And I suppose I do need to be able to do it...well to demonstrate to the examiner...
  8. Had a 2 hour lesson today...managed to hit 70 on the way back...not comfy with it but the road being empty helped. Oldie59...think my Bantam will struggle to hit 60...but when I get my licence...I will be happy at 50 on it.
  9. Got my mod 2 mid October seem to be progressing ok but I am reluctant to get above 65 on a fast duel carriageway with the national speed limit...I have never been a fast driver even in cars...only started riding bike around 3 months ago....think my instructor is getting a bit rattled with me.... But this speed thing is bugging me...I feel quite uneasy at anything over 60 really...I suppose I will get better but time is against me...my age 62 prob dont help. I wonder how common this is...would I fail my mod 2 if I dont hit 70 where I could do?
  10. Thanks guys for the good wishes...dont even want to think about mod 2 yet...just need to chill for a bit now and let it sink in.
  11. Yippieeeeeee did the Mod one this afternoon with a good pass...no bad marks...I am so so relived. Thanks you guys for you help and advice. Did the Slalom with the throttle full closed...the bike had no prob with it...nice and controlled just had to feather the clutch a tiny bit...but so much less to think about...may not work for every bike but the 650 Kawasaki did it with ease. Another guy from the same school as me also passed with flying colours on the test after me. So glad I dont have to do that again...just Mod 2 now...but I am not even thinking about that at the moment. Nick.
  12. Thats amazing had a 2 hour session this morning and your suggestion re letting the motor idle and feather the clutch is just how I did it...felt so much more under control. I tried it after reading the tips on this website...see below. http://www.drivingfast.net/motorcycles/ ... -test.html Also the instructor drummed it into me re looking where I wanted to go...made such a difference. I feel much better about it now.
  13. I also bought the DVD for the PC...The complete motorcycle theory and hazard perception tests. Loads to practice on...its under £20 but a must.
  14. W H Smith around £2.50...boring as hell but its got to be stored in the gray matter...get the official one as well. Did my theory a month ago...49 out of 50 on the Hi-way code...not read one for the last 40 years I am sad to say.... Nick.
  15. Dont forget to get the latest hi-way code...there was a new one out not so long ago....rear it and re read it lots of times.
  16. I did slip the clutch quite a lot during my attempts. The location of the practice pad may not help...its side in on a slight slope...nothing much but noticeable. On going left your slightly going downhill...going right slightly up hill....as I say only a few degrees. So you need to vary the power...would this make any differnce do you think?
  17. That sounds worth trying....I do have a bike but cant ride it till I get a licence unfortunately...love to be able to practice that.
