The more times you hit 65 the more you will feel comfortable at that speed and will be able to go faster
Googled your bike out of interest, according to Wikipedia the top speed is 'only' 65mph so you won't be able to go much quicker anyway

I used to have a Speccy!! my favourite games were the Dizzy series if anyone remembers them?
Used to play the Dizzy games quite often on the Speccy. Still possible to play the classic Speccy games on the PC via an emulator.
My favorite though was Elite, got to the 'Dangerous' level. It's still available but now called Elite dangeous horizons https://www.google.co.uk/aclk?sa=l&ai=C ... paidsearch
Did anyone have or ever heard of the Prism VTX Modem that connected the Speccy via a phone line to a basic form of the net? I used to have one 30+ years ago

My wife is planning on getting her passport renewed this month/early next month, and I'm wondering which is easiest option. Is it best to do it online or through the Post Office? It costs £10 more though the Post Office than doing it online but maybe less hassle.

Trade wise I'm a HGV mechanic, Give me a 4 stoke derv engine and ill do it blind folded,
only 2 stokes i've done was when i was in my teens, Going to show my age now 2 stokes had points and the piston was the only valve, and the carb bolted to the barrel, lol
no reed vavles and no CDI's lol
I used to own an RD250 Yamaha and later a 350YPVS Yamaha, also owned a Triumph Bonneville 750 T140v amongst other bikes. So now I am showing my age as well.

Soft Panniers........used them for years
They come in different shapes, sizes, styles and materials to suit different styles of bike, be it sports bikes or cruisers. They also vary in cost, some cheap and cheerful, some bl**dy expensive! BUT they are not generally waterproof and are normally supplied with plastic covers.
Main thing to be wary of is burning/melting them on the exhaust and/or silencer by buying some that are too large for your bike (it does happen). Also don't overload them and try to even out anything you put in them.
Fitting them:
They are held in place by a strap with velcro that goes under the seat and (usually) 2 straps that fit over the pillion seat again by velcro which are adjustable to some degree. the bottoms of them are held in place by a strap that either fits to the pillion footpeg mount (might need bungees as well?) or round the twin rear shox (if you have got them). It is I believe possible to use padlocks on the zips of some to stop theft, but probably wiser to take them with you when you leave the bike.
They are easy to attach and to remove should you want to, as they are held in place by velcro straps, you will though also have to remove the seat to get at the strap underneath it.

Just Googled the problem you are having bmwdave, it seems to be a built in fault with the 1200rt as there are quite a few people asking the same question. One person reckons it could be the fuel pump controller, whilst another reckons it's to do with one of the exhaust cam profiles? Others are saying BMW are aware of the problem and a remap of the ignition controller (forgot what it's called as I'm tired ) should cure it, but it seems to be one of those suck it and see situations I'm afraid.
Someone did mention though (I think trying to understand what he was on about), that if you blip the throttle before you change down it stops the bike cutting out (fuel pump controller again???)

Possibly a silly question, but have you tried using the choke if indeed your bike has one fitted? You say the bike fired when you put your hand over the intake, this effectively is what the choke does. It stops or reduces the air entering the cylinder(s) and allows more fuel in. Your bike by now has been standing a few days at least, and will need this to start it agian.
One other thought, has your new spark plug been set at the right gap? Too large and the bike will struggle to start if at all.

Either you'd need something that wipes the rain off like on a car, which would likely be bulky and require power from bike or battery either way not many bikes would like this (excluding polite jacket wearing bmw riders, sorry.) or it would have to be a chemical spray that caused rain the fall straight off like a film on the visor but this could either damage the visor or cost astronomical amounts and require replacing several times.
my diagnosis.
Use your hand.
I believe powered wipers for bike helmets were considered many years ago but disregarded on safety grounds, due to the risk of injury to the bikers head/face in an accident, either by the mechanism puncturing the helmet, or the wiper arm being pushed into the bikers face.

Tyre pressure? Without insulting you.... Always check the simple things first
Possibly, but that would affect the steering when turning/leaning left or right?
Another possibility is the wheel bearing on the right side?

If the chrome/shiny finish has discoloured it is most likely tarnished.
Try using a small brass wire brush and Autosol might help/might not?
It has worked for me in the past though

Use Gmail to receive your emails. It's got excellent spam filtering and can be configured to receive email from most sources. You can still keep your existing address, just use gmail as your email client.
Forgot about that you can do the same thing with Outlook I believe

Getting loads of crap emails from companies that I haven't signed up to. Anyone know how stop these (apart from changing my email address) as I'm getting up to 35 a day now

Can'say it will definitately work as I have never tried it, but I read somewhere a while ago that WD40 is good for bringing back the colour to cloudy plastics?

Don't mention to anybody that you have been trying to fix it yourself though as the dealer could claim that the bike was fine when it left him, and that you have cause all the faults by meddling with it.
