  1. I'm still going to do my full liscence fairly soon. I need to get hold of some theory test things. I guess it's worth getting the theory done to spur you on to ensure you do the full liscence as you only get 2 years right? I've called a couple of bike schools up but they are either fully booked this side of Xmas or closed down until the new year! Bit gutted but at least it will give me chance to get Christmas over with.
  2. I was comparing it to some real monsters! They had some gorgeous machines! I feel like I'll never own a sports bike though as the others are just so comfy. Maybe in time.
  3. Going for a 125! Took the wife to the bike shop today so she could hear the facts and figures. Also decided to go for a slightly newer bike than first planned and not bother with a cheap run around car. Probably going to go for a Suzuki vanvan vr125 as its the one I felt the most comfortable on. I'm still looking at other suggestions but I liked the wider handle bars and upright position. Hopefully resale won't be too hard hit in a year or so when I do go for a bigger bike. The bigger bikes definately look like a scary prospect when you stand at the side of them. So much physically bigger than you really think about as a non biker.
  4. You guys have persuaded me lol. I think I need to get gain the experience first. For the next year or so I'll not need a bike to go on the motorway anyway.
  5. My wife would buy me a lid. I wouldn't go crazy but I'll be looking for a new one. The rest I'm happy to have second hand. These are my first things so I wouldn't be spending more than £30 on gloves tops. Probably less and money all go towards things. I tend to get stuff that a few people have put into. I've been pretty lucky in the past and got stuff I didn't expect people to go out and buy. Hey if people ask don't beat around the bush! My sister has crazy spending habits...
  6. Some great replies to thi head, thanks guys! Especially from tc1474. It's slightly odd as so many people slate 125s and say they aren't powerfully enough to ride well (think stopping distances etc) but then most say to gain experience on them. I'm just worried a 125 cc won't be powerful enough to carry my 18 stone. I guess it only needs to get me around town.
  7. Congratlations! Only just seen this thread so I've just read the ups and downs of it all. I've decided though, I'll keep quiet about my tests u til I've done them. I was watching some helpful tips/ advice about passing mod 1 and 2 the other day on YouTube. One of the first tips was not to set yourself up for a fall. Don't tell anybody then there is a lesser expectation put on yourself lol. Doesn't matter though now! Party!
  8. Been thinking about doing it a while now (my bike test). Never riden a bike before. I usually hate November time of year as people start asking what I want for Xmas. Earlier this year, I had everything I'd ever want as I had a little boy and for the first time in ages I really didn't want anything. I told people to get me antiperspirant.... Now I've brought up the bike idea up with the wife I really wish I'd asked people for bike stuff like helmet, gloves money towards stuff... Looks like I'll be getting it all myself now anyway.
  9. Just curious, I've been thinking about doing my DAS but the thought of potentially wasting a lot of money scares me. Failing the modules scares me, I took 4 attempts to pass my driving licence. Don't quite have the disposable income I once did. Also, the thought of learning to ride a 125 for a year or so is starting to appeal more now. At first I thought it was a silly idea and I'd end up spending money on a 125 to want a new bike in a few months. I'm also not a small guy so I wouldn't be the quickest thing out and about. I posted about me wanting to get into bikes on a car forum to get their ideas and some guys said people were passing their mod 1 and 2 within 4 days but we're still dropping their bikes etc. The day before. Just seems a bit quick or are they really intense enough to get you ready? If you haven't guessed by now, my nerves usually get the better of me, although I'm fairly competent at life... Haha
  10. Thanks all, confirmed my suspicions. I'll be buying a new helmet for sure. Just had a guy interested in buying my car. Havnt really put it up for sale either. I'll be selling the car to fund direct access course, clothing, helmet and eventually bike but I'll leave that till last.
  11. Thanks tango. I've been in contact with a guy but just realised my work pattern is rubbish for the next few weeks (build up till Christmas) mainly consisting of 10-10 shifts or late shifts.
  12. If I walk into a clothes shop I have to try things on as I'm 2xl in one shop and 3/4/5 in others. Is this the same with biker clothes? I'm a bit of an odd shape, quite broad and a big chest but not particulary tall so often off the peg stuff is too long in the arm. Is it not even worth looking at second hand? I've found a guy not too far away seller some leathers which are supposed to be my size. He said I could try them on. Ideally I don't want to spend a fortune on jacket and trousers. I'd rather put the money into a helmet and boots and of course the bike.
