  1. Mine is due but after this https://www.themotorbikeforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=65266 I'm a little reluctant

That's an issue with the smaller Suzuki engine, you just need to identify the right bolt which is easy if you refer to the manual. If you get it wrong just put everything back the right way round. No harm done.

    That's an helicoil that's come out ;-)

Indeed, i could helicoil a new M14 thread or just replace the sump but the exhaust pipes run right underneath the the sump so i cant't take the sump off. If i helicoil with teh sump in place it will be awkward to reach.

  2. Erm yeah so probably so to fess up  The reason why the 'faulty' gauge was not going down is because I had filled up only two days before hand. Doh!! In my defence, if there is any, I have been very tired, doing overtime, chronic tooth ache, and taking far to many painkillers. I still can't remember filling up but the receipt in my wallet states otherwise.....

Paging the Jim Henson Creations team .... one of your subjects is loose .

:D it was a bad week

  4. I have a digital gauge and mine shows full bars until it gets to half full. It then becomes more accurate and goes down one bar at a time until the bars disappear and I got onto reserve. It then counts down from 40 miles.

Have you had your bike long?

Could this be the same as yours?

Had it since Sept 2016. Never had an issue before, level always dropped as expected.

  5. I filled up last Thursday and my fuel gauge has only gone down one bar. Now it would be nice if this was a true reflection of my fuel consumption but I know its simply not true. Its a digital gauge and it was fine until the last fill up. Any ideas what could have gone wrong and how I would go about fixing it?

    Thanks all.

  6. I also have a Duke, and going by the photos on the Caberg site it is actually probably the Duke II, it was bought just over a year ago. It is my second one after my head hit the ground in my original one, and though it seemed okay I decided it was not worth the risk of still using it.

That original one had a plugged gap in the left side where you could fit the Caberg Just Speak Easy bluetooth kit, this hole is absent from the newer model which though is apparently compatible with the Just Speak S kit. I was easily able to attach a Cardo Scala Rider on both, though. But I assume this is what Gerontius is referring too, and if so I have not noticed any noise improvement. But otherwise than a few slight changes there is no obvious difference between them.

The Duke was actually my third helmet, the first was a free one I got with my CBT and shortly after that I bought a Lidl flip one as a cheap spare. When the visor cracked in the free one I switched to the Lidl and and always intended on buying something better, but laziness and little big road riding meant that never happened until I dragged my head along the road a bit.

I only mention the Lidl one because in two ways the it was, for me, much better than the Duke. The visor was bigger at the edges giving better peripheral vision. When doing a shoulder check you have to turn much further with the Duke.

But the key one to me is the ventilation, it was just something I never thought of with the Lidl, but the Duke feels a lot hotter with just a single flap on the top. There is also a vent on the exterior of the chin, but with no control and it is solid on the inside so no idea where the air actually goes. I almost always have to leave the visor open a crack unless the weather is too wet or too cold.

And related to that the Lidl had a nose guard which the Duke does not, and I guess it made a big difference because I had fewer problems with the inside steaming up in cold weather or fog despite the lack of a pinlock. Although that could be the strange chin vent which cannot be closed?

But the Duke is definitely quieter and lighter, which matters a lot if you are riding it on anything more than short trips. I would not have been able to use the Lidl for long as I started riding more. Most helmets you have to wear ear plugs with anyway, so though I do not have experience with anything quieter I have no problems with it. And I can listen to music through bluetooth speaks with ear plugs.

I am not too keen on the control for the sun visor as I tend to keep having to fumble to get the end of the slider. It also hits my nose when all the way down, but stopping it one click before that is fine, once you have found the slider. (The Lidl had a sun visor too, incidentally, but whilst the control on that was easier to find it was more fiddly to use and got in the way of a bluetooth kit, so the Duke comes out better.)

In most weather when riding with the visor open anyway makes the Duke easily the better option, though in fog the Lidl one just seems better at stopping the inside clouding up. As Joeman says, all helmets have to meet safety standards, so fit is the most important aspect of that, and afterwards you are mainly paying for features. Although the Duke having a five-star SHARP rating did influence my choice. It also helped that it was a recognized brand, and was pinlock ready and included one.

Overall I think next time I am buying I would look for something similar but with better ventilation, though the price may see me return to the Duke again. It is just very good value for an otherwise reliable helmet with good features and a good safety rating. And I have never had any problem with the flip or visor showing signs of breaking or wearing out, nor with leaking. Never used the option to ride with the flip up, though whenever I have accidentally flipped the lock it has held so it seems sturdy too.

Based on your price range and list of issues and features, I would recommend it as a good choice. And I do suffer from heat very easily, so maybe the ventilation will not be a problem for you.

Useful write up, thanks. I'm actually looking at replacing my £50 lid and a Caberg Duke 2 was top my list and within my budget. Did you still get fogging issues with the pinlock fitted?

  7. I have noticed over the last few weeks that turning the key is not as smooth as it used to be or as smooth as I would like it to be.

I have cans of the usual suspects knocking around WD40, Silicone oil, GT85, ACF50 etc but is it as easy as just pointing the straw into the barrel and start spraying? Also is there a preferred lubricant I should be using??

    Thanks all.

  8. Finally got the bike back on the road this weekend. Thought it was ok last week but after couple of rides I noticed that the right disc was scorching hot, too hot to touch. I noticed the caliper when bolted on wasn't aligned properly so the pads were constantly rubbing on the disc. Ordered another caliper during the week, cleaned it up like new and fitted It yesterday, also had no problems bleeding the lines this week.

I also ordered some shorter helicoils and have done a proper job on the stripped thread so I have a spare working caliper now.

I now feel confident enough to take on the back caliper seals but waiting for some dryer weather for that.

Car is staying at home this week and i'm back on the bike, so all is well :D

  9. Other than the front sprocket issue I had its been a solid first bike for me. . In fact the only things that have gone wrong are down to my novice mechanical knowledge, but I'm learning.

Plenty fast enough when I need it to be

  10. :

Also try rotating the calipers so any air trapped in them will migrate up to the bleed nipple. A few gentle taps helps.

Calipers were fixed back on bike so couldn't try this. Assuming I have understood correctly.

  11. Method above seems to have worked. Many many thanks. The YouTube video I saw last night said to open valve and keep pumping, hence why I was wasting so much fluid.

So all seems fine now. Maybe a little test run before taking it tomorrow though.

Think I will leave the back brake for another weekend. Too stressful :D

  12. Starting bleeding the brakes. There is pressure now but I can still pull the lever all the way back to the handlebar grip. So its still not how it was before. Im using an easy bleed tube which has some kind of valve on it. Only thing is im getting through a lot of fluid, as in have to keep topping it up. Ive used almost 500ml already, is this normal?? Ive just been to buy a 1 litre bottle in case in need it.

When I started there were some huge air bubble in the tube, they have gone now.

Do I just keep going doing both sides until the lever firms up some more?

  13. Excellent so there is hope I could get it working again tomorrow. I will do some YouTube research tonight. Then next weekend maybe tackle the back brake which ironically is the one I can hear binding the most.

It was a pretty messy job removing the calipers. Brake fluid on the driveway. Wife not happy. What works best to clean it.
