  1. Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. You will still exert force into the neck and spine, just in the opposite direction so instead of stretching the neck, you compress it. Whether or not that is deemed safer i'm not sure, I guess it depends on the injury (if there is indeed an injury.


    I suppose it may be possible to support the head under the chin and take some of the force that way.


    I still remain to be convinced.

  2. The Intruder usually always carries a slightly higher price tag than the Marauder, due to it looking more the part with the v-twin I would guess along with higher initial purchase price. Personally i wasn't going to be keeping mine for very long so I went the slightly cheaper route.


    The best thing to do to get an idea about prices is keep an eye on sites like autotrader and mcn and you'll get a fairly good idea of the bikes' value.

  3. I have no idea about crossers, but I had a Suzuki Marauder 125 and it never let me down. I think a few others on here have them and can testify to their reliability. Alternatievly Suzuki offer a v-twin version, the Intruder which is pretty much the same aside from a few styling cues and of course the engine. Yamaha and Honda offer 125 cruisers but I can't remember what they are called, but they should be equally as good.


    I would stay away from cheap chinese bikes though as they tend to be very unreliable.

  4. I would say that is down to your restriction. At high engine speeds the airflow through the engine is much greater. The washer in the exhaust narrows the passage for exhaust gasses, which in simple terms stops the exhaust gasses from exiting the engine at the speed with which they want to exit the engine.

  5. But to exit a roundabout your crossing traffic to the left, so you look left to make sure your not being under taken. You only look the way you are going, where it will affect you. If you look right when exiting thn you are not looking where all the danger to yourself is coming from

     

    If you're on a larger roundabout (2 or more lanes) and are going right at the roundabout you'd need to initially position yourself in the right lane. At the penultimate exit to yours you should "mirror, signal, shoulder check left" and move across to the left lane ready for the exit (move left early to "shut that gap off" so no one can undertake, making you go round again). As you've positioned left, you've left a gap to your right where another vehicle can (and has done on me!) try to rush through and take the same exit as you but cut across you just as you're turning in. So giving a final quick right lifesaver will let you know if anyone's trying to do that.


    EDIT: on a smaller, single lane roundabout only a left lifesaver is required, because you're all the way across to the right until you need to come off anyway.

    I was taught to give a right shoulder check for the reasons above. I do it so I leave myself plenty of time to re-assess my exit (which I had already checked before doing the right shoulder check.)

  6. Congrats on passing your module 1! no minors huh? that's something to be very happy with given all the agro some people have with maneuvers.


    Hard luck about your module 2, sounds like you just had an arse of an examiner.

  7. Best example I saw of someone doing a U-turn was a while back when one of my uncle's mates did one outside his house on a big 1100. I asked him how he made it look so easy, all he said was "get her over and gas her up!". Sounded funny at the time but it makes sense. The more lean you get on the bike (not the rider, if the bike leans one way you lean the other at low speed so you don't drop it!), the tighter the turn will be. When you "gas her up" the bike wants to stand up straight so you won't drop it. I gave it a go and it's marvellous when you get it right. Just take it easy the first few times so you don't drop it.

     

    The problem with using this technique is that for whatever reason, if you need to stop half way around, you can't. Having said that, it does make it easier. I did it lots in my training but got a bollocking from my instructor for it. I was always told, keep your centre of balance over the centre of the bike, keep your head up and use the clutch/rear brake (mainly clutch though) to control your speed.


    It will come with practise and confidence..........even on the Marauder.


    Best bet is to find a big empty car park and practise doing it inbetween parking bays using the lines as guides. That way if you do over shoot, you're not going to hit a curb. Don't stare at the line/curb though otherwise you WILL ride in to it.

    ...don't forget the effects of atmospheric pressure (and therefore altitude) and quite possibly (but on a much smaller scale) air and fuel composition :)

    compared with a 600 cruising at the same speed your probably talking half the Revs (or less)

     

    but then that depends on the gear ratios!

  10. It's also worth considering that power is a function of force and time. So in simple terms an engine which is able to rev higher (and most 600s will rev higher than most 125s) is able to produce more power given that all other things are equal.


    So with an increased capacity and an ability to rev higher, a 600cc engine will make substantially more power than a 125cc engine.

  11. I am indeed planning on going bigger, just want to get some more hours clocked up before goin for my test, have been lookin at the Shadow (850cc) and the 800 maurauder. My dream bike is the Suzuki M1800r Intruder http://www.bikes4sale.in/blog/suzuki/in ... uder-1.jpg . Might have to wait a while for one of those though!

    if you looking towards the 1800 intruder, then think about the new V-Max thats out....

    :stupid: I saw one in town the other day and it was awesome. I like customs anyway but this thing was just another league. But I guess it's more a performance/sports custom than a chilled out laid back custom.


    Still awesome though.

    I'm glad you've got yours sorted now, tbh, you probably would have been a little disappointed with the Marauder after having ridden the Intruder, sound and looks wise.


    Are you planning on moving to anything bigger?

  13. Its not a bad car to be honest, used to havea 207 Gti 175bhp which was nice but when I got my bike I thought theres no point, cars just bore me now!! I might even get rid of the Volvo and just keep my bike, I've only used it a handfull of times since getting my bike!

     

    That's exactly how I felt until I got back behind the wheel of my mini. It's incomparable to a bike but as far as cars go it still gets my blood racing when going for a spirited drive. And there's nothing quite like the sound of that old A-Series with straight cut drop gears :D
