  1. well, if you really wanted to (although it's illegal as you're restricted to a certain bhp assuming you're in the UK and assuming these mods would take you over that limit) you could put on a free flowing air filter and exhaust pipe. If you had carbs these would then need to be rejetted so as to keep an appropriate a/f ratio, but if it's FI then you'll need a remap. Doing these will increase your fuel consumption as well. Also would be wise to have this all set up and tuned on a good dyno.

I'm guessing you could also change the cogs to alter your top speed, but you would lose out on acceleration.

Ummm after that then i reckon port and polish the cylinder head. I don't think bigger carbs is necessarily the way to go, you'll end up with a bike that runs crap at low rpms.

And after that, well then i guess it'll be new cam profiles, but then you'll have to mess around with the ignition timing as well.

But is it all really worth it for a 125? Even if you gain and extra 20% bhp then that'll only be an extra 3bhp (ish). It really doesn't seem worth while, save the money, do your test and buy a bigger bike would be a better option :)

  2. I don't think asking them to perform the swerve maneuver puts them at necessary risk and is one of the reasons why it is done off road. Ifyou were ever faced with needing to swerve in a situation on the road it's not like you could say, "wait a minute, can we please do this more slowly and in a safe place just in case I can't do it and fall off?"

Also, how can you compare a motorcycle swerving round some cones to a car swerving round a brick wall?

To me it seems like a perfectly legitimate maneuver.

Anywho, has anyone on the forum actually had the pleasure of trying the new test yet?

  3. I think that swerve should be taken out; I've been riding pretty much every day for several months and I've only just recently got the hang of flicking the bike at speed between tight, opposing corners! I pity anyone trying to do it after only a few days of riding, which is what most of the CBT + test courses seem to be.

I think that if you are to be allowed to ride a 'big' bike, hazard avoidance is a necessary skill. If that means having to do more training and learning to ride better then surely that can not be a bad thing?

Unlike many I actually think this new test is a good idea (except for the ridiculous cost and having to ride/drive miles to one of these supercenters) in that it will hopefully better prepare new riders for the road.

  4. as none of the approval boxes have been ticked and the version is sports i'd suggest its a race can, also the street legal box hasn't been annotated..

    :stupid:

however it looks like the sound level is rated at 97dB which is below the legal limit of 98dB (unless i've got that wrong of course :P)

  5. I nod but like others, peds don't get a nod unless they nod first, unless of course they are traffic wardens and then they'll be lucky if they didn't get my middle finger :D

and also, not beng funny but ummmmmmmmmm 98% & 3%.......wtf?!?

   At least someone listened in Maths!

hehe, I actually failed my maths A Level, however I do have a degree in engineering, that makes about as much sense as 98+3=100  :D

  7. howdy!

I'm 6'4" and skinny. I also strugled and tried on a whole bunch of leathers but settled with the Panther II jacket and trousers from Hein Gericke on the basis that they do a long fit for tall skinny people such as ourselves although they may be a little hard to come by. I had mine sent to my local store from around the country! So it may be worth inquiring as to whether they have anything.

Good luck and happy hunting :D

ps. they're also not ridiculously expensive.

  8. A torque wrench isn't a substitute for thread lock i'm afraid. If you over tighten the bolt then you could end up doing more damage.

I would just bit the bullet and get some, you will undoubtedly find more nuts and bolts that require it.

    Sorry.....

  9. if you have a megaphone style exhaust then i have no idea how to go about it, that's what mine had and i couldn't find any way to debaffle it with out possible trashing the exhaust. what i did was pick up a cheap second hand exaust off ebay which has the screwed in baffle and thne removed it.

i've only had it on for a week or so but the sound is absolutely immense (for a 125 :D ), my neighbours definitely don't like me much. on the down side the bike feels slower and it does pop a lot on the over run. i'm going to pull the plug in a week or so just to check that it's not running overly lean.

so if you just tend to pootle round town and want a better sound then go for it, but if you travel on lots of long fast bits of road i'd leave it as is (your ears will love you more  )

  10. Is there any way this seat can be raised, im stuggling with gears due to the low seat on this bike and being tall and i dont really want to change my bike just yet

Is there such a thing to raise the seat ?

if the bandit 400 is monoshock like the 600 you might be able to get a jack up kit but it will effect the handling, making the bike turn in quicker. as mentioned you might be better adjusting the gear linkage by either turning it and then putting it back on one spline more/less or winding out the bar between the two pivots on the gear change mechanism.

Adjusting the shock length is going to have no affect on the seat to gear change distance.

I think your best bet is adjusting the gear linkage. It's not a particularly tricky job but if you're really unsure then have someone else do it. It shouldn't take much the longer than 10 minutes for someone who knows what they are doing.

  11. i don't think it sounds like clutch slip either.

To me it sounds like it could either be a dirty air filter, or fuel/carburettor related. Air filter is the easiest to check/change so would suggest that first failing that try taking the carb off and giving it a good clean.
