  1. Welcome.

    Id look at these.

    Battery condition.

    Loose or dirty battery terminals

    Clean all earths

    Blown fuses

Corrosion on wiring plugs or wiring breaks or bodges

    Starter button

    Starter solenoid.

Need to get yourself a multimeter and systematically trace the starter circuit from the battery to the starter motor.

Does anything click when you press the button or is it just dead?

Very handy, and I didn't know such a thing existed, cheers

General rule of thumb is don’t poke anything like wire etc into a carb jet, I’d only use compressed air, carb cleaner or ultrasonic cleaning to break down any blockage.

  3. My OHs car insurance is due, 2013 BMW 118 diesel, £317.

    Just ran a quote on my 2003 M3, £250.

Both with the same drivers, NCB, mileage etc, yet vastly different cars.

They get you with VED though, OHs is £35 per yr, mine is £400.

  4. Some geezer in an 08 Mondeo on Tuesday.

Driving to work on a 50mph A road, Mondeo man was trundling along about 45mph, at first opportunity I nip by him and sit at about 60. Hit some roadworks and he catches me up, pull away again, get back to 60 and he drops back, a mile later there is a long straight and he comes belting past me. Tw@t I think. I then follow him for the next 8 miles along roads where it’s difficult to overtake and he back to bumbling along at 45.

Must have hurt his ego being overtaken.

  5.  Welcome, not the usual part of the world we get a member from.

What’s it like there for getting spares, tyres etc? No good buying a bike you can’t service or repair easily.

What does everyone else local ride, if you bought something decent ,would it be a thief magnet?

thats the thing....to THEM it is run of the mill rubbish...thats what they mutter while they rebore the head, put in new pistons, rings and bearings for the 50th time that year! 😇

They aren’t that bad, top end rebuild every 10k miles, bottom end every 20k.😬

  7. I’m on a RGV forum and got flamed for mentioning my 4 stroke Honda. If it was a run of the mill 4s I could have understood it a bit, but not a 50 year old classic bike.

Dont post on there much, just use it for info.

  8. I now have this scenario selling the Kawasaki.

Ebay buyer wants to pay by PayPal or bank transfer and send someone to collect it.

The way the buyer has written out the message sounds legit, not just “ I buy bike, send van”

Wouldnt do PayPal but a bank transfer should be ok?

Just a bit wary as work got hacked, they say our personal details are ok, but who knows.

  9. Some dickhead who just stepped from behind a parked car into the road in front of me while I was driving home.

Even worse he was holding a young girls hand, I nearly took the pair of them out.

    Good test of my reactions

    Can I have another go?

    please... :)

    This time is local Sainsbury.

    Let me set the scene.

Saturday after lunch. Needed some shopping so, set my way.

Grabbed a basket because I wasn't doing the weekly shop.

Filled the basket with all I needed and went to the cashiers.

To big surprise I realized that the only available were the self checkout tills.

No way in hell I am doing cashier work.

I respect the role, they do a cracking job scanning the items, asking what a parsnip is because they have no idea what a vegetable is and get the wee machine ready for you to tap your card for payment.

Some even ask if you need a bag despite seeing that I have 3 of 4 in the trolley.

Furthermore, I don't believe any costumer will be covered by insurance. and the prices are the same regardless you do the work or not.

Saying this, I walked to the nearest lady from the store, handed over the basket and politely told her "I'm not doing your job. can you please put all this back?"

Maybe I was too quick walking away, I didn't hear a reply.

Shop assistant probably thought " oh dear, thats the 4th one today stuck in the 1970s"😆

Personally I like self service, very little queuing normally and you don't have to interact with anyone, just pay and go.

Same with pay at the pump petrol stations, I hate going in the shop to pay, always someone buying chocolate, fags, milk, lottery.

  12. I think as the current generation grow up and EVs become more mainstream, they will be less exposed to different engine noises and therefore less interested in it. Probably be more interested in their ring tone, they couldn't tell a V-twin from a V12. Unless you are an enthusiast, a car or bike is just transport and there are more important reasons for owning that particular vehicle than the noise it makes.

I like the sound many engines make, ones with slightly off beat pulses like a V10, x plane V8, I5 or triple really stand out. Exception I make is a flat 4, I think they sound cr@p. I do also like my 3.2 litre M3 straight 6 at 8000rpm and let's not forget two strokes, which are a bit marmite,  that sound of a well set up bike on spannies hitting the power band.....

The same could be said for joggers, the amount of times:

    - I routinely moved out off the way, to let them past,

    - The amount of times me my dogs have been covered in crud as they jog through the puddles (now I stand in the mud/ puddles so I don't get covered),

    - The amount that have jogged passed oblivious to my dog,

    - Sometimes I am shouted at to move (by People with ear buds in) because I didn't hear or see them coming,

5 years we have walked in the forest, 100's of joggers have passed.  Now because of 1 incident he now needs to be on a lead.

I don't know why my dog didn't stop, change direction. I don't think he intended to hit the guy.

I also don't know why the guy who saw the dog didn't break his pace / change direction seeing a dog heading in his direction at a run.

However it is all the dogs fault hence my fault

Maybe those entitled dog owners have just earned another % who will be just a little less tolerant.

Personally I think all dogs should be on a lead in a public place. We had another incident with the grandkids, walking to the park, small dog, Jack Russel type appears around a corner of the path unleashed, shoots up to our 2 year old and sticks his snout into our boys face, happened so fast I didn't know if he had nipped him, scared the cr@p out of him.. Owner who saw what went on gave some feeble" he's normally good with children" excuse.

We don't and have never owned a dog but have looked after three different ones. The Westie we mostly look after ,is always on a lead when we take him out and dont let him run up to anyone.

  14. I was running across our local park a couple of years ago, very wide open space and there were a couple of women with 3 largish dogs running off the lead. I was a fair way from them heading in a different direction and this red setter came bounding towards me, not barking or aggressive but at the last second it jumped up at me , I hadn't slowed down and it bounced off my chest and he ended up sprawled across the floor. Got a half hearted "oh, sorry " from the owner.

Another time, a dog was running free, couldn't see the owner and  it ran up to me, jumped and sort of playful nipped my hand, owner who had appeared saw what happened and said "he's only a pup" ah so that's ok then?

It's the sense of entitlement a % of dog owners have that their pets can roam freely when they are clearly not under control that annoys me.

If the stat housing only reaches say 50C ,I'd say your thermostat is fubarred.

Got this on my car currently, doesn't have a temp guage but I noticed the heater wasn't great, checked it out yesterday and its only reaching 50C after 5 miles of driving.

Update on my car, changed both thermostats, one for engine coolant, other for egr cooler.

Water temp now in normal range, heater works a treat and mpg has gone from 36mpg ave to 43mpg for the same journey. An improvement of almost 20%.

  16. A guy at work had a bike with a tennis ball tywrapped to his bars with the top 1/4 cut off and kept a damp sponge tucked in there.

On the Kawasaki I used to keep a damp microfiber cloth rammed under the screen, when I stopped at a junction just whip the cloth out, wipe the visor and shove it back.

Nth hand CD175 on the road on my 17th Birthday* in October '78, passed my test Feb '79. Haven't got a clue how much it cost but I can remember it was a complete farce. Ludlow town centre is built on medieval town plan grid with the test centre right in the middle, it was p*ssing down with rain and the examiner was wearing one of those old bright orange walking kagools, (you remember the ones with a chest pouch) and hiding in shop doorways trying not to get wet. Two four hundred yard circuits left, two right, including the emergency sto, three or four questions on the Highway Code so simple a complete bozo couldn't have got them wrong and that was it. I don't think I got over 25mph. You could kind of understand why they toughened up the procedure in later years.

Similar thing in Rugby, test centre was opposite the town hall, had to ride a figure of 8 pattern around a couple of sides streets and onto a main rd, obligatory emergency stop when he jumped out on you,was probably doing no more than 20mph. After we sat on a park bench and ran through a few Highway code questions and Bob's your uncle, L plates ripped up.

Didn't have any formal training prior to the test, just 12 mths riding on my SS50, then 6 mths on my GT250. Was learning to drive at the same time so no doubt that helped.

  18. Did some prep to the Kawasaki in readiness for sale, had the fairings and side panels off and gave it a good clean. Removed the heated grips that had stopped working and fitted new grips. Just need to give it a final clean and get the advert pics taken.

Took it for a spin around the block, haven't riden a bike since the start of October, muscle memory must take over as it was like I rode it yesterday.
