  1. TC, I got confused after looking at another site. I assumed from the givi site that it would be that the contents were the 10Kg but then another site said the case+contents made up the allowance. The Hein Gericke shop near me were useless too. I think I'm going to have to pay a visit to my normal Hein Gericke people. Just don't want to spend all that money and get it wrong.

  2. As above but always look out for roads on the right where cars might be looking to turn into to get out of the queue. In London, some people will drive on the wrong side of the road if they're turning into a road on the right if there is a break in the traffic.

As per usual, it's ok to do but make sure you're not getting in anyones way (oncoming traffic) and proceed at a speed you feel comfortable at and if it doesn't feel safe, it most likely isn't!

  3. Quick question, I've got to do some maintenance on the forks and haven't done anything like this before. The service manual gives me the required amount of fork oil to put back in the fork but says to check it with a measuring guage to check it's at a certain level.

Question is, if I've followed what it says and filled it up with equal amounts of oil on both forks it should be ok right?

You may say get the measuring guage but at over £200 for a the tool, there's no way I'm spending that kind of money!

The Haynes manual doesn't mention about doing this check either.

  4. Hi All, first post in a while...

The bike is now of the road for the winter and waiting in the parents garage for me to work on ready for next year.

Question is, can anyone give advice (maybe email me a copy of the brakes section from the Haynes manual?!?) on the abs brakes on a Bandit K6 - how to remove, clean, replace pads etc). The stupid official haynes manual for the K6 doesn't have any details on the ABS brakes so I think I may have to invest in the later model Haynes just for this. Grrrr!

    Cheers!

  5. I've added another couple of dates on for October if these suit better.

If there's more people that can attend on those dates then that works better I think in terms of fundraising.

I'm also going to have to stay the evening as I don't think I could be bothered to ride back later. If there's anyone that is also in this same situation, maybe we could look at campsites close by or cheap B&B's. If there's enough people then I'm sure we could organise some discounted rates.

I've not got around to it yet but will set up a JustGiving page by the end of the day.

  6. A couple of weeks ago, Nikki (my other half) suffered a miscarriage. The staff at Frimley Park hospital local to us were absolutely fantastic in their support right from the point of our first visit to A&E all the way through to the end and as a token of appreciation to their services I decided to organise a charity event to raise some much needed cash for them.

If you'd like to see the original thread, you can find it here.

After looking at a few different options, a charity abseil seemed like the best option as it is fairly cheap to do (so more money goes to the charity rather than the organiser), in my opinion quite a challenge - how many people would throw themselves off 120ft cliff - and it's in Wales which means some nice roads to go riding around. It's also open to children too over the age of 10 so even if you don't fancy trying it, your kids might want to have a go and do it for a good cause in the process.

The abseil centre is located in the Loggerheads Country Park in Wales - map clicky here and looks fairly close to the Snowdonia National Park. The website for the centre is clicky here.

For those that don't want to take part, the Loggerhead Country Park is designated an area of outstanding natural beauty so there plenty to go explore around with a cafe nearby. Details clicky here.

Normal cost is £40 per person but with 11 or more people a 10% discount is applicable and with over 20 people a discount of 15% can be had. Groups should get at least 2 abseils but if progress is good this can go up.

The dates that I was looking to do this on would be either the 18th or 25th of September and this would be for a session starting at 2pm. I've put a poll up for dates and would like to make a decision by next Wednesday 18th August which would then leave at least a month to get sponsors.

I do hope that as many of you as possible will be able to join in. The last time I went abseiling it was about 20 years ago and I still remember it clearly as being really good fun and it's all for a good cause.
