Hi Andy... some members did our own arranged FBoS course, and this is a follow on from that. I felt I needed more first aid knowledge at the scene and wanted to go more in depth with that.
Anything that can help us safe a life has got to be good, but like u say, I just hope we never have to use it.
I see, good idea..........but Hull is a bit far for me and it's difficult for me to commit to anything at the moment in any case (bloody NHS!)
-
I did an FBoS course a few weeks back..........well organised, very good presentation and 'practical' exercises, recommended!
Basically it teaches you what to do if you come across a bike 'crash', such as assessing the situation, making safe, what action to take and how and when to remove a helmet, also CPR, logrolling and recovery positions.
Everyone on the course I attended found the course interesting and beneficial, hopefully we will never need to use our new found skills but who knows?
-
Interested for sure just can't say yes or no right now.......where's the 'maybe' option for the poll?
-
yup i made one
the only problem with my bike now i have no way of lifting the front so i can remove the forks and yolkes
i will make something over winter to do that
Bike on Abba Stand.....small bottle jack under the sump somewhere (block of wood to protect the sump), jack up just enough to lift the front wheel off the ground, secure the bike with axle stand/blocks of wood or whatever is handy

Abba stands are bloody excellent
Photo of mine in use (pre BMW days! ) with a better shot of one of my favourite purchases ever!!!!

A few photos from today

We didn't do the bridge crossing, the thought of crawling along over the bridge and to Chepstow at sub 20mph just didn't appeal!!!!......went for a proper ride instead!

I will post the total collected for The Poppy Appeal as soon as I find out the total.
Here ya go....
Final Weston Bike Night ended on a high, 83 riders from the Royal British Legion turned up and did a mass ride in from Weston Railway Station.A cheque for £6100.78 was presented to Major Rikki Peters Retd County Chairman of Somerset British Legion. The next day the total amount raised
had upped to £7000 with still more to come in from sponsership etc.
It was a great night which turned out "DRY" and quite a reasonable temperature. Loads of bikes turned up and there was a great atmosphere all around. For this night we
were moved up the sea front to opposite Somerset Legion House. We had a few elderly visitors from Somerset House mingling with the bikers. It was great to see how welcome
they were made and how grateful they were for the support this event has been given. The event's charity is "The Poppy Appeal" which supports places like Somerset House.
The organisers would like to thank all those who turned up and helped support this event.
There are already plans to continue the event next year, so roll on 2009.

As an advanced rider I would hope to never have to swerve!
What a ridiculous thing. If you observe and read the road then there should be no need to do rash maneouvres.
Anticipation, riding to what can be seen, what can't be seen, but what reasonably may occur should be the standard.
You appaer to do this now, but forget the 'mouthful' bit. Accept it is their mistake, and have a better attitude than them.
I agree.........
So ... how does one sweve effectively?....any sudden change of direction i.e. swerve stands a good chance of ending in tears and so does practising such maneuvers so going back to what Hoody said, observation is your best defence. That said, we can all make mistakes and things can go wrong, effective breaking is a good thing to practice but otherwise experience is what you'll have to count on.
As I said we all make mistakes......look at my avatar!

Autoglym Motorcycle Cleaner for the general wash, all over....you spray it on, leave a few minutes, hose off. Tooth brush/small brushes and parafin to get at stubborn greasy bit (chain fling etc), then wash the bike with Autoglym Shampoo.
Hein Gericke bike cleaner is as good as Autoglym and cheaper
ACF50.....brill! Like Pete247 said be carefull, it spreads/creeps and you REALLY don't want it on brake disks/calipers
Scottoiler FS365 is good as well
