1. I bought the chunkiest Brindley Chain, 1.5m with the chunkiest padlock. It's a beast, and heavy. Though I often keep it in my topbox so I can use it for long-term parking security. It's long enough that I can wrap it over the seat and through the rear wheel of my bandit when there's nothing to lock it against. I've just bought a cheap disc lock from J&S for those brief stops where I think a minor deterrent is enough. Don't forget to get a reminder cable for it too.
2. I enjoyed that little get together, thanks JRH Chrissb6 Liveware Problem . And particular thanks to Tango & Bonniebird who met me en route and allowed me to lead the way down some interesting, though pretty, roads.
3. Tango are you still intending to meet me in Polebrook? I'll send a message with my number.
4. Oh God, not the "lone wolf" crap again...... I don't believe so. These guys seem fairly laid back and fun loving, just riding their bikes for the sake of it.
5. I'm in Peterborough, only recently started riding so haven't been with any groups yet. There's a bunch of people that head over to Guyhirn during the week. If you're on Facebook, look up "No Club Bikers".
6. Tango goat If Kimbolton is 11:00 ish, how about I meet you at Three Kings Arms in Polebrook for about 11:30? The pub is closed so I can loiter outside just by the main road through towards Oundle.
7. J&S Accessories have a 20% off deal tonight only. I was going to go along there at the weekend and buy a disc lock but may as well get one while I can get the discount. But why all the different sizes? I've got a 2002 Bandit 600s. Looking at this lot: https://www.jsaccessories.co.uk/buy/Oxford-Products-Screamer-XA7-Alarm-Disc-Lock/26832.htm https://www.jsaccessories.co.uk/buy/Doctor-Bike-Dr55-Disc-Daddy-Small-8Mm-Pin/6029.htm https://www.jsaccessories.co.uk/buy/Doctor-Bike-Dr52-Disc-Daddy-Large-10Mm-Pin/6026.htm Do different size pins fit different brake discs?
8. I can get to Oundle fairly easy, so I'd probably just meet you slightly (5-10 minutes) South of there rather than have you detour into the slums of Peterborough. If I follow your map correctly you will cross the A14 into Old Weston, then turn left to Clopton, and Wigsthorpe before Oundle. If, instead, you continued through Old Weston and onto Winwick and Great Gidding, then turn left to Hemington and Polebrook that would link up nicely with my normal route.
9. goat Nice, I'll try and swing by. Any idea what time you'd be passing Oundle?
10. @goat what day are you planning to ride up? I'm in Peterborough (you may remember) and might be out at the weekend around that area.
11. I got 365 days for £53. Seems to be quite extensive cover too - Homestart, European, onward travel etc.
12. I'm with Bikesure, so I just gave them a call and it was easy and cheap enough just to take their option. £53 for the year, covers Europe and homestart etc.
13. I'm heading to France for a few days soon. My bike is a 2002 Suzuki Bandit 600. I'm new to riding, and the bike is new to me and I've only done a few rides so far. During those rides I've had a few mechanical glitches, though I think I've had them sorted at a local workshop. That said, I want some breakdown cover. At least for the single trip, perhaps for the year. Who do you recommend and how much should I expect to pay?
14. At the moment my bike is laying up for 2 weeks between rides, so I definitely want a switch on the USB charger. I should probably plug in an optimate too.
15. I thought that too, but recognise I'm not knowledgeable on the subject
16. Posting this here because it'll be useful for me to refer to: https://www.12voltplanet.co.uk/relay-guide.html#
17. Superb. JRH I'll let you know how I get on.
18. Oh, and one other question JRH The relays I've found all have pin 85 instead of 89, is that just a mistake in you reading your hand writing?
19. Wow, awesome JRH Couple of questions: 1. my lights only come on with the ignition if they are switched to the "on" position. I usually leave them like that because it never hurts to be more visible. In that case, your diagram would only switch the charging on if the ignition was on AND the lights were switched on.....am I right? So, maybe I should consider a different ignition live. 2. the fuse between battery and relay, is that the same fuse that is currently in place to protect the charger? So, it could go after the relay? Or, will it also serve to protect the relay?
20. Yo My bike has a retro-fitted USB charging socket near the clocks/bars. I didn't fit it, the previous owner did. Currently it's hard-wired into the battery so to switch it on/off I need to open my seat and fit the fuse into the holder (or remove it). That's a faff, and I'd probably forget it and run my battery down. So, I thought it might be better to have it switched by the ignition switch. That way, it will only be powered and charging when the ignition is on. Is that possible? Is that easy to DIY? What bits do I need and how would I go about it?
21. Some great ideas coming from that - I like the idea of keeping change of clothes at work. I do contracts of 3-6 months so that isn't always easy to arrange, but it should be possible.
22. no chance! I live in Peterborough and work in Central London.
23. I decided to ride my motorbike to the train station this morning. I usually cycle but got a puncture and I'm too lazy to fix it until the weekend. So, I wore my armoured denim jeans, D30 armoured jacket, leather combat style motorbike boots. I put my work clothes in a rucksack, and then my work shoes and a light jacket in my top box along with my heavy duty chain and padlock. It's a double topbox so plenty of space in there. But, once my helmet was in and my jacket folded up there was no room for my boots so I've had to put them in my rucksack - fortunately that's big too but it's absolutely crammed full and I didn't have my laptop in there or any breakfast/lunch which I usually do. Part of the problem is my jeans and the padding in them which take up a ton of space. Maybe I should remove the pads and gamble on just the Kevlar being sufficient. Maybe I should lock my helmet to the bike rather than in the topbox. Maybe I should get some riding boots that can double up as work shoes. There's no dress code at work usually, so I could get some casual boots, and even find some sleeker fitting jeans. I'm just looking for ideas.
24. Noooooo where would the fun be in that. I do believe op has genuine concerns which are very real It has been answered tho. On the first page Really really simple. If he wants to upset the local dominant MC wear one. If he wants to wear a full back patch. Go prospect for them. Whether we all agree with this or not that is the reality. For me, it's not about agreeing or disagreeing, it's about not understanding. Why should my choice of clothing concern anybody else, unless I'm trying to deliberately antagonise somebody by wearing it? If I choose to wear a patch from my favourite band on my jacket, that's my choice right? If I choose to wear a patch of my favourite animal charity, that's my choice right? Is it because the Lone Wolf patches are a deliberate exclamation of not being an MC member? More than that, it's about not wanting to be, and with the implication that to be in an MC is a bad thing? If that's the case, I can kind of understand. So, the question that really needs to be answered Youngbiker819 is: if you want to show people that you ride and that you don't feel the need to join an MC, why not just ride your bike, wear biker gear (and biker styled gear when you're not riding), and not wear a patch of any kind? That would achieve the same, I feel. These questions aren't rhetorical - I genuinely would like to hear the answers so I can understand better. I'm not claiming to be right.
