  1. A quick google tells me that the weight difference between cbr and fzr is about 27/28kg so it will feel heavier. Get out as much as possible on straight or slightly bendy roads with one or two junctions and you'll get used to the feel and weight.

I think your problem may stem from the weight issue, you are subconciously afraid that you might drop it due to it being heavier than the cbr. It's exactly the same as when you went from 125 to 600. Confidence is the key, slowly slowly build this up and you'll soon find everything such as slow turns etc become easier. Until then does it really matter if you put one foot down when turning, or if you go through bends slower than usual? You've passed your test but the learning doesn't ever stop, especially from bike to bike..

Go out and enjoy yourself on it.

oh im enjoying it :) ride it everyday since i got it lol   I think your right about the weight as the differnace between the cbf and the fzr has threw me a little. i shouldnt have expected them to be the same to ride looking at it now

Appreciate all the responses folks will just need to keep at it till we gel :D

  2. thanks for the input guys, the tyres are fairly new (seen the receipts) and look to be in good shape tyre pressure is good too.

it all looks ok to me mechanically from my limited knowledge, I do have it booked in for a full service and health check from my local garage next week so maybe he will spot something.

Hoping its just an adjustment period because on the Big roads its such a fun thing to ride, still getting over the wind not affecting my top speed after two years on a 125 lol XD poor cbr125 feels like a pushbike now

  3. Not posted for a long while so hi :D

I recently passed my test (yey) and have bought myself a '94 fzr 600 r but im not sure if its too much for me or just a case of new bike adjustment

i did my lessons and tests on a cbf600 and could handle that just fine, didn't feel too powerful and could low speed manoeuvre np

This fzr though... it feel a LOT more powerful even though its the same engine size and im having trouble doing slow speed manoeuvring, feels so big and heavy and the turning circle is non existent.

Practising in a car park i cant do a U turn within the space for the mod 1 without putting a foot down and low speed corners im having to stop to almost a crawl to go round them >.<

At speed im fine , it leans nice into long bends and im fine doing roundabouts at decent pace just low speed it feels like im fighting with it

TLDR: New Big bike feels very heavy and hard to handle at low speed, is it too much bike/too heavy for me or am I just needing to adjust?

    Thanks!

  4. Could just need adhusting, is it in the usable range window on the chain guard, and do you have any more numbers left to adjust to on back adjustment plates?

As for wires yeah mine are same I sealed them up with some tape. your on the older model if I remember, square clocks? You should have some fairing to cover them if so, on mine the 2002 model they have nothing covering them! Lol

  5. it pass's buddy trust me, ive had a few offs due to wet weather ive come off on a wet road due to braking to hard on a white line (30mph spill total wipe out lol) and a week later due to death gripping in the rain i didnt turn enough and went off again (i did a forward roll in the air , remember shouting tuck and roll! as i flew off then laid in a heap laughing my arse off).

Its took a while for me to loosen up again, all i can advise is whats worked for me. Ride ride ride , make reasons just to pop out for a quick spin your confidence will come back.

the downhill cornering, drop your speed down to as slow as you need, people can wait. try to go slower than you feel you would need to and accelerate into the corner gently you'll find it helps your grip on the road. coasting or Worse braking is more likley going to make you come off keep relaxed ands trust your bike to get you round :)

  6. lovley bike mate as megawatt said, the acf50 helps. lot of chrome on the sr so will find you need to keep it looked after to avoid rust. one thing i find with my SR is it can gather a hell of a lot of gunk under the front sprocket cover so keep and eye on that when your doing chain maintenance :)

Other than the that its just the usual stuff, keep chain lubed, keep tabs on air filter and watch oil level and brake fluid levels/conditions and keep her clean (paint job buffs up fantastic on these bikes with a bit of wax)

Enjoy your SR its a cracking little bike and im sure you will enjoy it!

  7. Just looking at these old pics, looks so diff now lol since i got her ive:

    Replaced the mirrors

    fitted a topbox

    fitted new mirror holders

fitted new LED indicators from bulbs (including a resister to slow them down)

    Fitted new grips

Re-vamped the petrol tanks look (hated the gold trim yuk)

    Replaced the busted left footpeg

    Replaced the chain guard

Touched up the engine block and body paint

    Fitted a phone holder

    Fitted a USB charger

    put on various decals

and none cosmetically fitted a cone airfilter instead of the airbox, adjusted the carb to compensate and replaced the sprockets+chain

cant wait for my new headlamp to arrive thats gonna be a beauty :), A steel Skull with lights in the eye sockets and mouth!

only things left to do are add a rev counter, a windshield and replace front indicators, dont like the bulky blocks on atm.

and most importantly, get rid of those bloody ugly L plates!

Love my Bike wish I'd got one years ago :P

  8. You'll find your grip is just not as good in the wet buddy, as people say just take it steady all you can do and make sure tyre pressure is correct i learned the fall on my arse way what a difference that makes in wet conditions lol

oh and +1 on white lines in the wet there slippier than a ppi salesman.

  9. yeah why i said on the ebay one im not sure cause cant see the measurements if they differ on the pre 2002 customs, the first link should be fine for your though says 92-2000 model sr :).

the manual for the bike says dot 4 so thats what i went with :) branding im not sure if it will make a major diffrance.

tubing for draining the plug i actually used some spare piping i had frm my fishtank pump lol XD done the job perfectly ^^

  10. im using DOT 4 synthetic in my sr 500ml from halfords is £7.99 still got well over 2/3rds of a bottle left after flushing the whole system and works a treat for me :).

oh and these guys have the nipple you need fits the 92-2000 models they say.

    http://yambits.co.uk/sr125-custom-brake-caliper-bleed-nipple-front-p-5964.html

this one on ebay should do it also but couldnt be 100% without measurments :)

  11. does sound like air in system with brake actually working when you pump it a bit can you see any bubbles in the reservoir window? that bleed nipple may be allowing a slight leak in if its snapped.

worth trying bleeding the system with a replacement nipple for the cost of one before you go into more expensive repairs i would think :). Its easy enough job

oh and welcome back to biking, fellow sr rider myself :D

  12. if a cyclist overtakes you while your on a motorbike i thought you were obliged to kick them off?

Joking aside i see people whizzing about on pushbikes at 25mph on footpaths , riding in the centre of 40mph roads doing 15mph. Basically do anything they like.

Ive done it myself when i was a kid so im a bit of a hypocrite but that recent death in london due to a cyclist bombing it on a custom cycle does make you think.

  13. agreed practice practice practice. will soon relax into it mate just comes with experience few months in like myself you will find yourself rocking forward on the bike at 65 willing it to move lol

just enjoy and ride at your comfort level dont feel you have to open the taps just for the convenience of cars around you they can wait, and watch your speed in the corners till your feeling more confidant :)
