  1. It charged just over 2 hours in total. Bike is good as new again. Thanks to everyone for the help, and especially Akey for the charger. Have sent you a PPM mate.
  2. Still got his charger so I'll give it a charge till it's time to go home then.
  3. Do I need to charge new battery once I put the acid in it?
  4. CMC clay cross £24.99, Halfrauds £49.99... But it's a Bosch battery, the man at halfrauds said, so that makes it ok
  5. If it has to desulfate the battery then yes the battery was the problem... Sulfation destroys a battery's ability to hold charge. Desulfation is the curing factor here as it makes the battery more able to charge. Though a battery for your bike from Halfords is about £30 from memory. If you have a trade number all the better. Wish I did have a trade number. Would that make it cheaper?
  6. OK so after 16 hours or so the charger started switching between charge and weak, it then went to desulfate for about 15 mins and now is charging again. Any suggestions if the battery is dead?
  7. Quick update, battery is on charge on optimate3. Didn't switch to desulfate, don't know if that's a good or bad sign. Once it's charged I'll get it back on and check voltages etc. Thanks Mark for the loan of the charger.
  8. Would be really appreciated if I can borrow it. I'm at physio tonight for my back after the accident so won't be available till after 7. At least I could get my battery on and try charging, should prove if it's the battery before I buy another. I can send my driver out from work tomorrow to pick up a battery if the charge fails.
  9. Guess it's a trip to the nearest shop for a battery then. Let's hope they come ready charged.
  10. Someone crashed into the back of me on 24th May, was taken away by insurers next day. Yesterday was first time I've used it since. Has an alarm fitted which I'm guessing drains battery too even if not turned on. I'm pretty sure the insurers wouldn't care enough to have disconnected the battery while they had it.
  11. Will a standard car battery charger work on a bike battery or is there a difference? I have a halfords charger that I got for the car some years ago.
  12. It's only just over 2 years old. Didn't expect battery to fail so quickly.
  13. Unfortunately not. Will have to try and borrow work van tonight if I can and then bring a meter tomorrow. How do I test reg/rec?
  14. And I'm at work 8 till 4... Hopefully the fuel change will do the trick. I was concerned over battery as I managed to ride all the way to work but when I got here the battery was still flat, headlight wouldn't even turn on when ignition was switched on.
  15. I'm at work mate so a plug socket isn't going to be a problem. My bike's in our warehouse at moment. The battery is completely flat and just wanna charge it and rule out a duff battery before I go any further. I'll also get the fuel drained and replaced.
  16. Not tried the fuel yet, didn't know it could be a problem? After some internet research I was thinking more along the lines of duff battery or reg/rec failing. It's an 09 bike so hopefully not failing yet tho. Have got AA cover but assuming they won't do roadside repairs, just recovery when it's a bike.
  17. I've had my bike (YBR125) off road for 3 months, most of which time it was at insurers. I have it back but the battery is completely flat. I can get it kick started but it's not running well at all. It keeps loosing power and every few minutes it cuts out. Idle's unhappily too, almost like it's struggling to keep running and then after a few minutes it cuts out. I'm guessing I need to charge the battery. Is anyone anywhere near Meadowhall and got a battery charger I could borrow, I don't mind paying or giving a deposit. I'm stuck at work with no way to get back to Chesterfield tonight. I thought a good run would help it, did 13 miles with plenty of stops to restart bike but it didn't help. If anyone can help with a charger or any advice would be really appreciated.
  18. Can't rate the Dr Bike grips highly enough. For twenty five quid they are great. I've only needed to go to about half temp even when the bike was frosted over.
  19. Just finished fitting a set of hot grips. Hopefully toasty warm hands tomorrow morning instead of the usual frost bite. Worth a try for a third of the price of Oxford ones.
  20. Thinking about putting heated grips on a YBR-125. Anyone done this? Can the battery take it?
  21. Am sort of stuck. If I needed them for the commute to work every day then I would look at the soft panniers. I just need these for a few weeks for storage on the bike once I get to my destination, not for carrying anything whilst riding. I think soft panniers are gonna end up getting stolen or drowned in a rain shower.
  22. For the next few weeks I'll be commuting to Leeds from Sheffield (avoiding motorways with my L-plates There's nowhere to store my gear once I get there so looking for advice on hard luggage. Got a Givi 30l top box which takes helmet, gloves and a few other bits. Considering paniers to keep my clothes in (textile jacket and trousers). Could do with being lockable. Any suggestions for the Yamaha YBR-125? If anyone has any to sell I'd be interested. Not looking to spend a fortune as this will only be a once a year 3 week journey. Thanks.
  23. I use a Givi E30 30 litre top box on my 09 YBR-125. Can't fault it and wouldn't be without it. Cost about £40 inc universal fitting plate. Box comes off real easy for storage and just clips back on. Highly recommended. If I was to buy another I may just go slightly larger. It's great for keeping helmet and gloves in but occasionally I could do with stowing my boots/jacket/trousers. My advice, think about what you are wanting to keep in it, take the stuff with you and try it for size.
  24. Back wheels off ready for taking to shop tomorrow. Do I take off the brake and sprocket so I'm just sending the wheel or do I send it complete? On a lighter note the rear breakes don't want changing yet even tho I thought they did, at least that'll save a little money.
  25. Ok wheel coming off tonight. Will drop it in a CMC tomorrow.
