  1. I may have to do multiple chippy runs to experiment with different transport techniques @bender is that not a pizza place? There seems to be something new there every time I go up that way. John Longs is a pretty decent chippy in town too. The Ruddy Duck in Holywood is where I'm talking about though.
  2. I'll keep an eye out for a polystyrene box and raid the hot press for old towels and see how it goes. Some experimentation with multiple visits may be required to find the optimum solution. Such a hardship
  3. Unfortunately food couriers around here are Deliveroo and they ride bicycles. Chips would definitely be cold. Perhaps I just eat the chips and tell the other half chippy was closed.
  4. Here's my problem: I work in Belfast, I live in Bangor, on my way home I pass our favourite chippy, but if I stop to pick up fish suppers how do I keep it warm for the last 9 miles of the journey home? Can you get something for a top box to keep stuff warm?
  5. A damp sponge on the dash might be a good idea and I have plenty of space to stash it too. Thanks for that.
  6. Furniture polish? I'd never have expected that as a suggestion. I do like the idea of a finger squeegee but I need new cold weather gloves anyway to stop my fingers going numb so may look for some with an integrated squeegee. Thanks for the suggestions.
  7. Good morning all, Riding home from work last night I noticed that my visor was filthy and any attempt to clear it with my glove just made it worse, so I ended up riding all the way home with the visor up which gave me a very cold face. Undesirable. Apart from regular cleaning with soapy suds, is there anything else I can do to help keep my visor clear?
  8. I imagine that if 1 cylinder of a 2 cylinder engine was not firing then it'd be pretty darn apparent. But what do I know.
  9. 100% agree with that Tango. The dealer is: GRC Motorcycles 220 Upper Newtownards Road, Belfast, BT4 3ET https://www.facebook.com/GRCMotorcycles True to his word, I dropped in on my way to work Friday morning and he fitted the battery connector for me there and then and gave me an Oxford Oximiser 900. I never again have to worry again about the battery going flat.
  10. To conclude this thread, I sprayed a bunch of contact cleaner in the switch gear and now everything is working perfectly.
  11. Back to the original topic, and I know the OP is sorted, but you'll be hard pushed to find a mobile phone booster that works across all networks. The reason is that you need a licence to broadcast on mobile network frequencies and those licences are only in general issued to mobile operators. This is why you find boosters provided by individual operators but seldom one-for-all units. Any one-for-all units you do find for sale are probably illegal.
  12. Can't say I've had the pages falling out thing happen, but you're right about the wafer thin pages, it doesn't take much ick dropped on it to stick an entire chapter together.
  13. In case you haven't yet bought one, Haynes themselves are running discounts on their website at the moment and it looks like most of their bike manuals are around the £17 mark. I bought one for the Transalp last week and took a couple of days to arrive. I guess one cost cutting exercise they've taken in recent years is to produce paper back manuals as opposed to the nice hardbacks of my old manuals.
  14. This story has taken a pretty decent turn this evening. To recap: 7am bike won't start, 8am AA fella declared battery knackered, 8:30am bike running and follows me round to the local garage, 9:30am local garage opens left them keys to replace battery. Off I go to work in the car. 5pm and said garage declare bike fixed, that'll be £85 please, oh and by the way it's only firing on 1 cylinder until warm then settles, could do with a proper service which will be another £130. I say no thanks, just the battery. I then get on the phone to the fella at the dealer I bought the bike from last week. He's dead apologetic for the trouble saying if I'd brought it back to him he'd have sorted the battery for nothing, which is fair enough and I knew it'd cost me to take it to my local garage so I'm ok with it. He is then furious that my local guy charged me £85 and declared it extortionate, tells me how much a battery actually costs, and then apologises some more for my trouble. He had some other opinions about their suggestion a full service was required, but I won't go into that other than to say he doesn't recommend I go back there. The surprisingly excellent conclusion to this story is that by way of making up for the dead battery and my trouble getting it sorted he is going to fit an Optimate connector to my bike and give me an Optimate charger completely free! And he's going to check the misfire while he's at it to make sure everything is operating as it should. I did not expect him to do this but it's perfect as I was looking at doing it anyway. Nice to have a nice story to tell.
  15. Agreed. The AA fella declared the battery knackered but he got it started then followed me round to the local garage where it's at now getting a new one. The battery was Honda branded so possibly the original from 2004.
  16. This has all come about because I was greeted with a dead battery this morning after a week unused in the garage. I didn't want to go to work anyway
  17. Optimate, that must have been it. Nice one, thanks. On the Optimate website they have loads of different compatible charger units, any recommendations for one?
  18. I've heard that you can get some kind of connector fitted to your bike battery so it's dead easy to connect up a charger unit to it for when it's sat in the garage for the frosty weeks of the year. At the moment it's a pain in the hole getting to the battery as you have to take the seat off and a bit of fairing. Anyone know anything about that?
  19. I bought an HJC IS-17 helmet last year. It doesn't have a flip front or anything but it's comfortable and my bike instructor says he likes HJC helmets so I figure I didn't make a terrible choice. It was just over £150 I think.
  20. If your insurance are dealing with it then let them deal with it. They'll pretty much do everything. If you wanted to back up your claim as not your fault then having details of the witnesses and maybe the shop keeper who may have witnessed your exchange with the driver. Some kind if incident reference number from the police for evidence of their conversation maybe? I don't know what records the police keep for such matters. Your insurance company can advise you on the best course of action, they do this all day long every day.
  21. Thanks for the replies, much appreciated. I have not cleaned out the switch gear yet and that will be my first job because all that'll cost is a bit of time. Once the indicators are on they do seem to flash consistently as expected. I'll see how it goes but it's good to know where other folks go for their spares, so thanks for that too.
  22. Hello all, I have a 2004 Honda Transalp and it has a problem with the indicator control. I've not long had this bike and I noticed when riding that the left right control toggle on the bar is a little stiff and spongy feeling and didn't always actually fire the indicator which I put down to it being full of crud and is on my list for a good cleaning. However, on further tinkering I've noticed that it sometimes takes a moment, a second or two, after pushing the lever before the indicator fires up. Some brief searching suggested that a dicky relay could be the culprit. So my question is, should I prove that the relay is duff, where would you recommend I go for a new one? Thanks, Tim
