1. I specifically chose to have no cover for pillion passengers. My wife has zero interest in getting on it and as a new rider I'm finding it challenging enough managing just myself on the thing. I suppose just the insurance company point of view a pillion passenger is just another 3rd party to claim off them if things went wrong.
2. Yea it's all very vague, in fact there's no mention of 'emergency' on my policy and only came up when I called to clarify whether my policy would cover me to drive my brother-in-law's car down to Dublin, i.e outside of the UK. I had a rather unpleasant conversation with the insurance company employee who clearly didn't give a sh*t what I thought about it.
3. They were suitable vague on that point, but gave an example of when the owner of the car is injured you can drive them in their car to the hospital.
4. When I insured my bike recently it appeared to be pretty straight forward in that you can ride any other bike third party, no questions asked. But when I enquired with my car insurance firm last year they made the stipulation that the third party cover for other vehicles is for "emergency use only", which means borrowing your mates car just because it's convenient isn't covered.
5. Problem there, as SometimesSansEngine has pointed out, is that the other motorcycle is required to be insured by someone for your 3rd party extension to be valid. If the OP has just bought the bike and does not have his own insurance then you're a bit stuck there. If you're buying from a dealer then you might be able to negotiate a reasonable rate for delivery? Otherwise, there are plenty of van courier companies that pick up and drop bikes for reasonable money.
6. I watched half of the Henry Cole episode where he set off from John O Groats. I got itchy when he kept saying 'kaf' racer and turned it off when he repeatedly mispronounced "Thurso" with way too much 'ess'. I say 'kaf-ay' racer, what do you say? kaf or kaf-ay?
7. I really love that the official promotional imagery show the bike caked in crud with scuffs and scrapes and all. Makes a change from the usual just off the production line, never seen the sun, pushed 10 yards to the photoshoot set, you usually get on manufacturers websites.
8. I do not have a power plug of any description on my bike so it's battery all the way for me. I want to use primarily for my commute, which is about 40 mins each way, as evidence should I ever get caught up in any nonsense.
9. I'm a new rider and like you are getting to grips with effective cornering. Like most things I think the key ingredient is practice, practice, practice to build your confidence. I find my confidence fluctuates even day to day. For example, yesterday I was feeling the most comfortable I ever have with corners, yet today it just didn't feel natural at all. Maybe tonight it'll be ok again, or maybe not, but either way I gotta get home so I'll ride anyway. It's all practice.
10. It does look smart, but manufacturers always like to have you think that. Was just wondering if anyone has any real life experience of using one? Battery life appears to be ok, one Amazon reviewer quoted it as being longer than the old model that had 2.5 hours life which would suit just fine.
11. Agreed on that point. I learned over a longer period of time with 2 hour lessons once or twice a week or so and I was usually pretty tired after those 2 hours so even half days would be physically tough. But then again I'm 40 years old so may not be such a problem for a young-un.
12. That driver gained nothing but your contempt.
13. Good morning peeps, I'm on the lookout for a helmet cam and have come across this one that 'looks' decent enough: Sena PT10-10 Prism Tube Wi-Fi Action Camera for Motorcycle Helmet Has anyone any experience / opinions on it?
14. I'm a very new rider having only passed my test in December and have had my first bike for less than a month. Filtering is a practiced skill for sure. My filtering top tips from my novice standpoint, which also apply to every aspect of motorcycle riding: 1) Be safe 2) Be comfortable If you can't tick both of those boxes, then don't do it.
15. I'm a software engineer by trade and I can confirm that all web site cookies taste of pain and despair.
16. That's probably the most appropriate use of an emoji I've seen in a long while.
17. Oxford HotGrips have been fitted and riding home from Belfast today my hands were nice and toasty. Still a little nippy on the fingertips but much much better than before and none of the loss of feeling I was experiencing before.
18. Lots of spray on the road this morning but I cared no a jot because I was finally able to give the visor a wipe! Wonderful!
19. Oh flip yea, riding home last night was the most unpleasant journey I've had on a Motorbike yet (I've only been riding a few weeks so not as dramatic as it sounds). I only have a 15 mile commute but by 5 miles in my visor was covered in road spray and it was cold, raining, sleeting, and windy as fook. I could only stick wind driven sleet to the face at under 25mph so had to navigate the blur for a good bit of the time. Most unpleasant. The cloth went on the bike this morning so hopefully I'll be able to clear the crud at regular intervals from now on.
20. Turns out there's a handy gap between the top of the instrument panel and the screen where I can tuck a cloth for visor wiping. My only concern was the wind lifting it out but even though it was pretty blustery this morning it didn't move. I declare that a result! Thanks for all your suggestions.
21. I would be surprised if there is not a mobile tyre fitter in your area that deals in motorcycle tyres. Yellow Pages time.
22. I keep reading this topic as "Snow vehicle on roof", which is a completely different discussion.
