  1. just popped down for another bash at opening it, its simply not budging. I'm also not even sure what i'm meant ot be lifting, but nothing seemed to want to move anyway, wether I just tried to lift the seat padding itself or try to budge some of the fairing (though it looks as though only the seat padding should move) nothing would move a significant amount. Who would I go to about getting into the lock? Would I take it to a mechanic? or a locksmith? Also If I was to have to put a new lock on, could a lock be made of my key so I dont need a seperate key just for the underseat storage (or whatever it actually is). Much handy to have one key for all three; ignition, tank cover, seat-thingy.
  2. Hey all, I have recently purchased a Megelli 125 S, used. Most things are fine but I am interested as to wether it has any underseat storage or not. There is a keyhole underneath the seat but only after buying the bike I have found out the keyhole is trashed, pop the key in and turn, it just keeps on turning and making bad noises, seems someone has tried to break into whatever it is and destroyed the lock or something, I have added a yellow circle to the photograph below to show the keyhole. http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k84/edgey_15/megellinaked-s2.jpg Can anyone help identify where this keyhole leads to? Underseat storage? The battery? This is my first bike so I don't know how underseat storage usually works, havent played around with it on other bikes or anything, just know it exists on most bikes but some don't have any.
  3. Aah thanks for the advice, good to hear from another Almax user, I will be getting the 1.5m worth I recon when I get round to ordering it.
  4. Hey all, Im wondering if anyone knows of some good places to get a Helmet in the North West. Preferably with discounted stock/sales/end of lines. I'm located in Manchester and all I know really is the Hein Gericke shop, another bike shop over the road near there. And then the Yamaha/Ducati stores in Manchester but they dont do much in the way of discounted helmets, Havent been into HG yet though. So as a summary, any pointers on good, cheap and also helpful places to buy helmets, as its mine and my mates first helmets we would possibly need some buying pointers on fitting etc. Thanks for any contributions.
  5. Aah you legend! The old rope (or in my case probably string) trick, why did I not think of this! Thanks for the advice, I will be locking it up in a rather crime busy area so I would be carrying this chain about most of the time... I assume in a backpack or tailpack or something until I stop and lock up! I may think about this 0.7m lighter lock idea though for quick less risky stops, I have saw this back wheel + over seat technique used before.
  6. Hey all, I'm going to be buying a new Almax chain for my bike, but I'm unsure what length to buy, it being my first security chain purchase ever I am unsure. options being 0.7m, 1.5m, 2m, 2.5m. would this vary on bike size? (I wouldnt think it would as it will be looping through bits of frame, rather than around the whole bike in some odd... hugging way) My bike is a Megelli 125 s if it does matter though. I'd have thought 1.5m or 2m would do the trick, but i'd be worried if I went for 2m and its rather long, there would be more excess chain for would be theives to attack. In a nutshell, is there a good methos to try and find what length chain would suit best, or what do you lot use which seems to generally fit anything well? thanks all.
  7. Thread Revival with new question! This time its about pants!! Im looking at some textile pants on eBay, Gozo bike wear, british company just starting out selling on eBay I think, can't find them elsewhere but looks like good kit. anyway, obviously I wont be able to try any of these on in a store as they only seem to deal over eBay but would like some advice. Basically, measuring my waist with the tape left a bit loose I am a 33", but with the measuring tape snugle against skin all the way around, but without it digging in, it measures 32". They offer 32"waist 32"leg OR 34"waist 32"leg. The leg is fine as I am a 32" but unsure what to go for in terms of waist, 32 or 34? This would be my first set of textile bike pants so I have nothing previous to go off. I plan to wear them over other clothing (such as work pants) if that makes a difference. Most of my casual jeans are 32" waist but I don't wear pants underneath. Any friends/family I have asked have given conflicting answers but none of them are bikers. Thanks for your time!
  8. Yeah I really like the idea of a port/lean-to. I'll definately be looking into it, much cheaper and better option. I'll also definately be getting some foom of ground anchor, ideally one of these Y-Anchor things as then the anchor itself cannot be attacked. Im told they only cost £60 ish but ill need someone with the ability to fit it, with drilling capabilities, so might just settle for a standard anchor with ring and bolt it into the floor/house. oh and do you actually 'need' planning permission for something like that in your own back garden? Using the term need very loosely.
  9. Hmm, I may play with the idea, look about at a few tents and do some measurements etc. I also like the idea of the bike port, as in just a roof and maybe another wall to cover it, as it's a bit less intrusive into the rest of the garden than a tent would be as it would be coming off the side of the house like a mini extension thingy, plus this *could* be possible for me to DIY with some internet help. (I don't know how much materials cost though yet).
  10. Ok thanks for the posts (didnt mean to sound angry, on re reading it may seem like i was really, sorry, I was just pointing out the differences between our options and asking for reasoning, feel free to dislike me for that, I tend to write aggressively but mean no harm, I blame it on where I live, constantly surrounded by societys scum). I didn't think of putting guy ropes into walls and bolting them to the floor, which is rather silly, as its kinda obvious. However I dont have a massive garden so I probably wouldnt fit one in, plus its not my house so other residents would dislike the whole back garden being filled up with covering for my bike. Also its just to protect it a bit more, not saying its going to stop it getting robbed. Wish I had the skills to DIY one up but if i tried getting some sheet metal and putting it together or something it would certainly produce some kind of failhut. On reflecting on your comments I would probably just get a standard throw over cover for it, just a good cover. Unless I find a cheap one of these little hut things. I dont exactly know anyone who would help me make my own so, hey ho. I do like the look of metal motorbike sheds, wish I had the money for one though.
  11. Thats a tent... why would I get a tent? with massive ropes sticking out to peg it into the grass when I could get something like I posted which can be bolted into concrete more securely without wasting all that space? So Ill assume no one has any experience with one of these?
  12. Hey, I will soon be getting a bike and was going to just leave it in my back garden with a cover over it as it won't fit in my shed, but I recently discovered these and wondered if anyone has any experience with them and if they actually do a good job: http://www.protech-shelters.co.uk/bikehuts.asp Basically I am looking for a bit more protection from weather than just a throw over cover but I am not willing to splash out for a new brick bike garage or something like that, because I'm a student and therefore nowhere near rich. Thanks for any comments.
  13. I changed my mind and thought i'd go the whole hog and get these: http://www.bikingdirect.com/clothing/sp ... s/11994-p/ Recommended by Ride magazine and I thought id get some to last much longer and not necessarily need replacing for a while and offer more safety as fingers are rather delicate and as it looks like i'll be learning in winter, I'll probably be coming off the bike at least once.
  14. so in your experience, good budget gloves I take it, which is good because i'm not looking for some pro racing gloves here or something, just a nice pair of standard protective gloves. I may think of buying a thinner pair of textile/mesh (but still protective) gloves for summer/warm weather then. Ill assume the leather colours your hands due to it being cheaply coloured leather (got an earful about how people cut costs when colouring leather whilst I was recently sofa shopping). Thanks for all the help you guys have provided, I will definitely be adding more questions here, probably concerning textile pants/jeans.
  15. Thread revival with glove question: Has anyone had any experience with Buffalo gloves? Saw thes on eBay about my price range: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... K:MEWAX:IT Im looking for decent protective leather gloves which are waterproof really, just I couldnt find many reviews about Buffalo products/gloves so unsure wether to go for them or not, its the kinda style I like, but I dont want to get them just because they look nice. In addition I decided to go for a leather jacket, picked up this Hein Gericke leather jacket off eBay for £50, RRP of £150, saved £100 http://www.hein-gericke.co.uk/shop/prod ... ts_id/4983
  16. yeah I've been browsing J&S after seeing it mentioned a few times on this forum, its rather likely I'll be getting some stuff from there. Also found topgearsuperstore.com has a few cheap items on, my only worry is that if I get something off these websites it may not fit right, therefore costing me to return it. Chances of me finding the exact same clothing on these websites as in one of the few bike shops around me to try it on first are rather slim.
  17. hmm I didn't think of that, I may be popping into a few shops then in hope to find the same item cheap on eBay or something, thanks for the idea! p.s. engine question moved to Bike thread here.
  18. Thanks all for the information, I probably wont be going to a shop to buy any clothing though so I'll have no one to advise me really. Reason being to keep costs down so I will most definately be buying most of my gear 2nd hand from places/the internet. Only thing I know I will get from a shop is a new, good quality helm! This probably belongs in a different thread and has probably already been asked many times before but: For a new rider, what would be better, a 2-stroke or 4-stroke engine? My uncle advised a 4 but I cannot remember why, just wondered what you guys think. I personally don't know the differences they create but am about to look into it a bit deeper through the powers of google!
  19. Hey, I'm new to the forum and new to biking, joined the forum to learn a bit more before I do my CBT and get my first bike, have a few gear questions I would like to ask. Firstly, how should my leather jacket fit me? should it fit nice and tight like it's hugging me? or should it be slightly looser? or are these just personal preference and does not affect protection? Secondly are leather/protective textile pants required? I will be using my bike mainly for transport to work where I am required to wear my work pants. Is it easy to wear leathers over my work pants and are they easy to whip on and off? Would textile pants be a better option for me? (such as these 'Draggin' jeans i've heard about or something similar), my work doesn't really have a changing room to get changed in. Sorry if these questions seem hilariously stupid or anything, all help is appreciated. Warning: I may post more gear questions in the future!
