  1. Aye, when buying a bike I would obviously go with the best deal, carbed or injected. Though the 2001 model has slight aesthetic improvements. I was just generally wondering what people would go for given the choice and if the descision to change to injection in 2001 makes much of a difference.
  2. Just for general knowledge, I am not yet looking to buy a new bike for a couple of months but: Say I was looking at a CBR600F, If I remember correctly they started making them fuel injected from 2001+ If I was to find say a 1999 (CBR600F4) carbed bike and a 2001 (CBR600F4i) FI bike, pretty much everything else including cost are the same, which would be the better option? Naturally I would assume fuel injection as it is a more recent technology, but I know very little about the two except about 5 minutes worth of googling. Please feel free to depart your wisdom

    Ignition semi-fail

Had a play around and the ignition definitely only works in neutral now, use to start in gear even without clutch in, didn't think it had any of those safety features which stop the ignition from working, unless they had previously disabled themselves. Might email megelli about is, says nothing in the manual.
  4. So my bike is now behaving badly, damn lesser-known manufacturer (Megelli 125 S). Basically, ignition button (usually, still to double check this) does not work unless I am in neutral. My bike has none of those failsafe features which stop ignition working when in gear or when side stand is down, it also previously allowed me to start it in gear, and I believe on occasion still does. This is somewhat annoying as it is sometimes (not always) a pain to get it into neutral, just dribbles about between 1st and 2nd until it gets bored and gives in (not due to my technique as others have trouble with it aswell). So when I was riding home from work after being caught in the snow with the bike not properly warmed up, it died at a set of lights and people behind me got a bit angry, had to pull over onto the pavement until my bike would behave. Any ideas? I have a feeling it may be the electrics to the starter motor, when I pulled my sprocket cover off to lube the chain a while ago, the socket was rather loose and the cable has been frayed by the chain as the cover had not been put back on properly previously.
  5. aah a very nice bike! I've got work at 3pm, wondering wether to go on my bike, but once there I don't have anywhere to put my gear/lid, not the brightest of people in my workplace. As soon as they enter the staffroom they will see my lid on the floor and think "oooh shiny!", this worries me.
  6. Good man! Not long since I passed mine. You got a bike? Got your eye on one?
  7. I can back up the Knox Coldkillers gear. I have the 'mini neck warmer' and it works a treat, upto just under my eyes (covered by the neck warmer) stays warm compared to other exposed areas which are freezing. A great buy for £15 I think, off eBay.
  8. Woop. Passed on the sunday! Was good, enjoyed it and I can now ride my Megelli 125 S hope it treats me as well as I intend to treat it. I would do a write up on the 'CBT - Experiences of other Members' thread but you may aswell go to page 22 of that thread and read CobbZ's. I started writing one and then read his and they were pretty much the same thing with different wording and a few very minor differences (did it as same place and did exactly the same stuff with similar comments about Big John and Barry being hilarious and good teachers).
  9. Thats a good idea indeed from frankie, but its the bit which the keyring would go through on the zip which has broken, so I physically cannot attatch a keyring.
  10. As the subject says, I have my CBT booked finally! This Sunday at 8.30am sharp in Bloton. Can't wait! I have been waiting over a month to book it now, as I sent off for my provisional licence many many weeks ago. However the DVLA were so kind that they lost my application form, this was also the period of time the Royal Mail were on strike, so my application would take maximum 4 weeks rather than 2 according to the DVLA. 4 weeks passed and it was at this point (after two previous phone calls to them) they decided to tell me they have no information on me and had lost my application. Even though during the two previous calls they took details to try and find me on the database, failed (but didn't tell me this), and just told me to phone back in a week. This happened twice. Still, once they figured out they had lost it I was able to send another application free of charge with pre-paid postage (straight to some woman there rather than the 'general application' address) and I recieved my provisional in about a week.
  11. So today I recieved delivery of my new boots and leather pants. I went for the Swift Torsion X boots in black, a nice first boot, love it, decent reviews for a cheap boot aswell. Pantwise I went for some 'MAX MPH' black leather pants, the only ones they do. Fit very well, fell nice and comfy and well padded, happy with them, except for one thing... The zip has managed to break, however it still works. Imagine if you will the 'zip-pull', this links through a loop in the actual zip it's self as with all zips in the world. Now, it is the loop on the zip which has broken, meaning the zip-pull has fell off even though the zip-pull is intact. I have no idea how this happened really, it disobeys physics as I was not even touching the zip-pull at the time of breaking. The zip its self still works fine. I could send them back for exchange as its a manufacturing fault, but that may cost myself a few quid I don't want to spend on sending them back (which they don't refund, though I have emailed them to check). Anyone any ideas on zip fixes? Would superglue bond the metal and be strong enough? One of my uni mates recons not, but he is no glue expert. Is it possible to get a tailor to put a new zip on? like a YKK zip. I am not well informed in the arts of tailoring, I fear that exchanging the pants would leave me with a similarly weak zip, just a non-broken one which will with time... break. Thanks for any ideas you may give, I assume someone here must have had to deal with a damaged zip before.
  12. Unlucky squire! See you tonight if you're still popping round, lemme know.
  13. Aah I think they provide the Kriega bag free these days when you buy the ground anchor package, I just got the chain and lock on it's own. I think I shall definitely go for one of their tailpacks though, good prices aswell and another British company I believe, always a bonus. Well they state on the home page: 'Designed by a dedicated team of enthusiasts in the UK', good enough for me.
  14. Hmm interesting, I am interested in the 5 or maybe 10 L versions, I will definately consider this, seems to be just about the best tailpack I have saw today (and I have been looking at various tailpacks, tankbags for hours this morning/afternoon). These look rather promising as I can unclip them and use them as a backpack, so my uni stuff can go in here whilst I ride, whip it off and sling on the back, thanks for the input Andy
  15. I have no grab rails on my Megelli, and it doesnt seem there are any made specifically for the bike, is it possible to fashion some custom grab rails? or is there some kits to do this? Would have no idea where to start though. Picture of bike So options are: Tankpack Tailpack (unsure about underseat exhaust though) Bungee cord to tie it down (nowhere to actually hook the cord as no grab rails) Anyone have any other methods? Thanks all for the ideas so far.
  16. Yeah what cobbz said, bike is a Megelli 125 S, and the Squire Stronghold lock. How do you mean drippong it inside the cowlings? Do you mean something like locking the chain around the tank and underneath through a gap in the frame which does not obstruct any mechanics? I wouldnt have thought about something like this really, im interested.
  17. Hmm, didn't think of a tankbag, does anyone know of any very small tank bags? OR is it possible to fashion my own tankbag from my backpack? Or are there structure issues involved and its not just a case of slamming some magnets in my backpack? My idea regarding tailpacks/tankbags if it came to buying one was (as i will be going to uni on my bike) to get the smallest height pack as possible but would still fit my chain in and possibly disc lock, so that when I lock the bike up, I can simply condense the pack into my normal uni backpack with my uni stuff, which I will be riding with on my back (even though this is not reccomended in terms of safety but it it the most practical method to fit). I realise backpack-tankbag's exist but they tend to be rather bulky and oddly shaped compared to a backpack and wouldn't hold my uni stuff too well when compared to a backpack. Anyone any other ideas to transport a chain?
  18. So I have gone and bought an Almax Series 3 chain and lock and as predicted, its a monsterous thing which has a fair weight on it. I'm wondering about some form of transport for the thing though, it is far to heavy to have in a backpack and I dont want to wrap it around my shoulder like im Rambo feeding a lead hungry belt-fed minigun. My mate has come up with an idea which works for him being that he has an Oxford bungee cord which he wraps around the back seat with the chain coiled up and strapped down to the seat using the cord. Does anyone have any better suggestions than this? Also, whilst on the subject, how do underseat exhausts (which my bike sports) fair with things like bungee cords or a tailpack which straps around the back seat? Wont it just melt the straps/cord into a plasticy mess? Thanks!

    Choke;

Yeah I was a bit worried back there lol. Now it was running fine earlier tonight, I will try start it in the morning and see how it goes. Previous to this evening, it had not been turned on in a couple of weeks as it had been sat in my house and mother doesn't like the smell of petrol, just popping that fact into the discussion. Now it's outside after purchasing some security and a cover so I can go start her up.

    Dead Indicator

So I had a better look at the whole thing and to switch the indicators around it would require some very tedious soldering, something I dont have the equipment or skills to do. Looks like my only real option is to get a new indicator from Megelli and get a mechanic to fix it on who has the skills and equipment to do so.

    Dead Indicator

Yes I will have a bash at doing that tonight bogof, thanks. I contacted Megelli and they say that if it is the LED's which are bust i'm going to need a whole new indicator supplied through their dealer, so I should be able to get it posted to me which will probably cost less than making my way down there to get it fixed on warrenty anyway. Thanks for the help people, I will post later tonight when I have tested a working indicator.

    Dead Indicator

Nope, he is my best mate lol. It is still under warrenty but as said, nearest dealer is 45 miles away, a bit hard to get to The terms of warrenty state the service manual has been stamped by an authorised megelli dealer, first one is after 3 months which has not been stamped, the bike is 6 months old, wether they would care about this or not I don't know. The warrenty lasts 24 months for main parts but for consumables such as bulbs warrenty is 12 months.

    Dead Indicator

Just had a bit of a gander, I like the idea of replacing the bulb and see if it works, however, having an 09 bike its not as simple as removing some screws. The bike is a Megelli 125 S. The indicator itself is a whole fitting, the bulbs cannot be directly accessed by removing a bit of casing, the indicator can be pulled off the stem which attatches it to the bike with the wires running through the stem and into the indicator. Leaving me with the only way to check another bulb is to remove the wires somehow and buy a whole new indicator from Megelli or something, then re-attatch the wires which probably requires skills I do not posess with soldering and all that. There might be a way to remove the front clear bit of casing but I don't want to completely destroy the indicator case. In addition it is not simply one bulb, it is several LED bulbs in a circuit which could possibly be a series circuit, meaning if one of those little bulbs go, the whole thing packs in. Any ideas? Seems I'm going to have to get in contact with my nearest Megelli dealer or something unless it is possible to buy a new indicator from Megelli and get a mechanic to fix it. Thanks for the ideas so far though!

    Dead Indicator

Hey again all, I would like advice about my indicator. All indicators work fine on my bike apart from the front right indicator. How would I go about diagnosing the problem a little better? At current I can only assume it is a dead bulb as all others work fine. Is there any way to check if this is the case myself without buying a new indicator? Should I check for anything else aswell as a dead bulb? Thanks for any help! People on here tend to be very helpful and quick to reply, I have already learn't loads about biking and I'm yet to even take my CBT (which is booked for this Saturday with my mate 'Cobbz', can't wait to get riding!)
  25. I got onto Megelli and it turns out that it is not for underseat storage, from their riddled email I gather it is to remove the back seat, so that the front seat can be removed which in turn allows you to remove the tank and access the battery. So I probably wont need to use it for a while so it has moved down on the priority list.
