  1. Did my first spannering today, knowing I could always find help on here if I needed it. Thanks to you guys 'n' gals, I now have a nice new pair of brake discs fitted. Wasn't brave enough to renew the brake fluid though :classic_blush:

It did show me just how grungy everything is when I started taking bits off - so I'll do it all again soon and have plenty of brake cleaner/wd40/kerosene to hand.:thumb:

  2. I think it can give you a sense of achievement if you stay within your limits, and close to YouTube.

I'm fairly new to the two wheels world, but decided I'd have a go at as much as possible now that I am here. I used to enjoy working on the basics with cars, but accessibility to most of them was so restricted. On bikes, once the Tupperware is off, you can get to most bits.

Did my first spannering today, changing the front discs .

    Mighty chuffed with myself :classic_biggrin:

Press the menu button ( three lines) in the top right click on active topics then click on unread content

This will essentially show you unread posts which is basically any new posts

I am looking in to ways to make this easier but its going to take time

I don't know if it's the way I have set up my 'Stream', but I've suddenly noticed an 'Unread' button at the bottom of the page?

    Works too!

I can do that once then I press back on my browser after reading each thread which takes me back to unread topics and it refreshes it too

Also try scrolling to the bottom and clicking on theme and change your theme and tell me what you think to the other one just bear in mind you lose the navigation bar at the bottom

I don't know how I set it up - more luck than judgement, but I think I have my stream set to show 'unread posts' and the time set 'since last visit'.

I then either press the back button, or the newspaper page icon thingy next to the house/home symbol on the top bar. It also refreshes each time.

  5. Great post husoi, thank you :thumb:

I don't mind trying things, as long as I have simple instructions, and the above sounds simple enough. I'll have someone alongside me to keep an eye on the levels.

I'll soon post again if I cock it up!

  6. I was advised on my previous post, that it made sense to change the brake fluid too, but I've also been told it's a nightmare to bleed these due to the linked system. Anyone have any experience doing this on a Deauville?

Your answers are appreciated,  many thanks.

  7. I can't seem to add to my previous 'NT700 brake discs' post, so I'll have to ask on this new thread/stream/activity, or whatever it's called today ...

I'm being quoted £77 each for brake discs ( I need two😥), which is more than I can run to this side of payday.

Does anyone know of an alternative to Wemoto that they can recommend?  I've tried cmnsl, Fowlers and Sportsbike shop who were all dearer.

  8. Thanks for the tips, I'll get the parts ordered tomorrow.

    £77 for each disk

Should I order new caliper pins? Not sure I'd know if the current ones are worn or not.

Don't think i can replace the fluid either, I'm told the Hondas have a dual system that is tricky to bleed? Maybe I'll try, but I'll probably bottle it!

  9. Before I order the parts for this first foray into bike repairs, it's a dual disc front wheel, but only one side with this problem.

Do I need to replace both at the same time?

The failed side has 3 or 4 of these cracks, all on the outer rim towards the first vent hole, but other side looks fine. It may have been a single replacement before, or a bad disc from the start?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

  10. Hi all, just started to give my 'new to me' Deauville wheels a bit of a clean up, and saw this.

    1667945002_Brakedisc.thumb.jpg.3b9d95519b0e758705ab367b4cdec1c3.jpg' alt='1667945002_Brakedisc.thumb.jpg.3b9d95519b0e758705ab367b4cdec1c3.jpg'>

I assume it's not ideal, and will replace as required, but anything else I should think of doing whilst the front wheel is off?

I have no experience with spannering a bike, very little with cars, but funds necessitate I give things a go myself.

Could also do with the smug feeling of satisfaction if it all goes well too.

( I have the car as back up 🙂)

  11. There is an aerosol version :thumb:

    acf50-spray.jpg

I’ve got this, I find it best to spray it into the cap then use a small paint brush to apply.

Stand the can in a jug of hot water for 10 minutes or so, and the spray is much finer for more coverage.

  12. Wait, yes, roll off (although I am so mightily skilled that I would never miss a speed zone 8-) )

My instructor says no need for shoulder checks when pulling away from lights. Then whats all the should checks in mod 1 for then?

Just do the checks, you can never be too safe. It is an opinion he has, which may differ to that of the examiner, so I'd err on the side of caution.

  13. Got a 2013 model for my daughter - very basic, but great fun.

I fitted aftermarket central locking for her, and while the door cards were off, covered as much of the inside panels with Bostick self adhesive flashing band from Screwfix. The noise and vibration reduction is amazing. It was a very tinny sounding car before this. Did the spare wheel well and anything else I could uncover without too much hassle.

Doubled the weight of the car mind ...

    Mpg is ridiculously good.

  14. Great bike, I've had mine nearly 2 years and still love being out on it. I'm just over 6' tall, so I put a quite large box on the back to disguise my size on a smallish bike. It does give the bike a bigger look.

When I visit my parents, I chain my bike to their car wheels. Do you have a neighbour or someone local that would allow you to do this with their car?
