  1. the council will need proof of the noise before any legal action is taken, they usually sit outside the house with a decibel meter in cases of noise complaints once a certain number of complaints have been made. What time was it? if it was 1AM then i can understand but if it was in the day then i have a feeling that they are elderly therefore need to pass the time by complaining
  2. I stalled 8 times right before we went on the road, mainly coz i was nervous but also there was a massive hill to go up stalling, etc happens to the best of us, dont worry about it
  3. no Its unnessarily confusing, i hate explaining the hows, why, and whens of my restricted licence basically all 2 wheeled vehicles are split into 3 groups, you have cat A which is a motorcycle more than 125cc, cat A1 which is light motorcycle and thats anything between 50-125cc (such as standard 125's, also honda C70, and C90) and cat p which is moped and thats anything less than 50cc. when taking the test, dependant on what licence you get is dependant on what sort of bike you take the test on, "Standard bike" just means that your on a bike between 120-125cc come test time, and that will give you a restricted licence (for 2 years). i could go on and on, but theres a gazillion guides on the interwebs on this subject if your unsure about anything
  4. Well according to 'What Bike' they are only an insurance category apart.....but yeah I guess servicing cost might be an issue yeah your right, again im mixing up fact with dreams
  5. Ducati's are like ferarris of the bike world, expensive, expensive, and really expensive. as some pointed out, expensive as in "paying for the name", expensive on the insurance (more likely to be nicked, etc) and expensive come service time, repairs, etc. I would go with the kwak, but I do put economy before styling
  6. That's not a given yet. Some elements are still out for consultation as far as I'm aware, and the 14 yr moped riding is one element that is unlikely to be introduced here. http://wiki.motorcycle.co.uk/index.php?n=Training.3rdDrivingLicenceDirective yeah i should of said that it is still in its draft element, but when i had a quick read of the draft a few months ago i was less than impressed. remember all that talk of raising the car driving age to 18 a couple of years ago for the purposes of "safety", then it suddenly died off? I suspect that for a time the 3rd driving licence directive stated that the min age for cat B is 18, and the talk suddenly died off then they alowed member states to have it at 17, clearly a puppet government we live under but that subject is for another time.
  7. in theory yes but they might not have a system where you can ride a 125 with L plates, etc, (i.e no provisional licence) so they just stick it with the car entitlement and if they want anything bigger they pass a bike test. I know in france that the A1 entitlement doesnt become valid until youve passed the car one for 2 years, and in Germany im fairly sure you get it straight away. If you pass cat B in france and want a 125 straightaway its either full bike test or ride a moped, its pritty much give and take in terms of advantages and disadvantages between our systems. our system had advantages too, such as car drivers who have passed before 1997 having entitlements as long as a letter to father christmas (such as towing licences, Light Good vehicle licences Drive anything up to 7,500KG, minibus licence, etc) all from passing a car test, whereas most other EU countries never had that, of coarse, if you passed your car test after 97 your limited to litrally a car and nothing else (under the 1st licence directive). the 3rd licence directive thats due to come in in 2013 will harmonise everything even thurther, possible that eventually (hopefully Britain would of escaped the EU by then, but if not) you can ride a 50cc vehicle when your 14 and no licence, no such thing as a "provisional licence", and include A1 to the car test. im not a geek/work for the DVLA ltd honist BTW, you get a full moped licence with a car test over here anyway, just need a CBT (if passed after 2001) to validate the entitlement
  8. 100% NO. anything your provisionally entitled to (i.e Bike on a car licence, provisional licence, etc) is only valid in the UK, all your full entitlements for example the car one is still valid abroad. to sum up, any category you have a full licence in is recognised as its a EC licence, but provisional doesnt come under. FYI, some may of heard of full car licence holders from France, Germany, etc being able to ride a 125 here with no L plates, etc, thats because the car entitlement in these countries also come with a full entitlement to a Light Motorcycle, hence is valid over here P.S, she can probably ride a 50cc abroad, you dont really need a licence as such for a moped abroad. (although in the 3rd licence directive there adding cat AM as part as thier ever continuing efforts to harmonise 26 different systems and cultures )
  9. im on a red YBR, come to think of it, I litrally lve about 3 miles away from yourself in Thelwall, I did Live in Lymm for most of last year at the Church Green pub (before it became too expensive to walk in there) ill have to keep a lokout for you!
  10. ill have to try that one one evening or day, cheers
  11. assuming youve done your CBT you can take both mod 1 and mod 2 without lessons from a school, all that matters is your ability to pass the test, not wheather you had lessons or not. and to reiterate what andy said, your after the standard (A2) bike bike test, your too young for a large motorcycle test (DAS) and the light motorcycle test (A1) just allows you to ride a learner legal machine without L plates, carry pillion, go on m/ways, etc, etc, etc
  12. Youve probably done this bit to death, but i usually do the road going to Pickmere, starting from High legh garden center (turn right on the A50 from poplars) and just follow that road, short lived though as i usually end up either on the A556 or A559
  13. If your mate has no previous road experiance then its best to get a rough idea of how a roundabout works, what roadsigns mean, etc before the CBT to make things easier for the day im sure all CBT instructors have horror stories of 16 yr olds taking roundabouts the continental way, etc
  14. if you have the old paper licence (as oppose to the pink ID card lookalike with the stars of apression in the corner) then chances are that the DSA wont recognise your licence. good luck!
  15. if you do go for the A2, and your patient enough, then just ride around on a 125 during restriction (although the longest ive seen from a person is about a month (apart from myself )) 250cc tend to be <33BHP anyway, therefore dont need to be restricted, but there not as common as their 125/400 counterparts. remember, the only difference between having the dreaded "=<25KW" printed on your licence and not having it printed is the size of bike you take your test on, nothing else
  16. the restriction is EU law anyway (hence the 31MPH as it equals 50KPH) and since foreign law shouldnt apply here anyway, and its dangerous to do 31MPH on an NSL road, and the police tend not to bother putting pedbois peds on a rolling road, then its not a bad idea dont go spending thousands trying to make it go 60MPH, as soon as your 17 you'll realise its a waste of money
  17. If your over 21 you can do the DAS and not be restricted, the only difference between the restricted and unrestricted test is the engine size of the bike on test day. gaining road sense before test is a good idea, during that period you can get your theory test out of the way. a big advantage of getting a full bike licence is that you can learn on your own, as much or as little as you want, in your own time. Try not to rush yourself, best of luck
  18. loads are there every weekend as well, ive been there a couple of times myself.
  19. give it a month, then call DVLA ltd on 01792 782341 (same as the 0870 number, only cheaper ) to ask where your licence is. make sure you still have category B, B1 still when you get it back, they sometimes have a habbit of loosing entitlements. and if youve done the A2, dont mistake your restriction code for a licence to produce 25KW of electricity Edit, i guess hes got it now, , still, the 01 number for the DVLA ltd is usefull i guess
  20. If you want to do an advanced course then i would recommend the IAM, simply because it costs ~£120 (somebody might know the exact price) for many hours of tuition (roadcraft) by volunteers, test, and it tends to be recognised by insurance companies. when i did the car one a couple of years ago, it took me 5 months (about 25 hours worth of tuition), various assessments, test with a police pursuit driver as an examiner, access to roadcraft tuition books, even a highway code book, and cost me practically next to nothing, as oppose to the "£25/hr advanced training" run by bike instructors Bargain
