  1. nah scratch the last bit, im making payment for the nesessary parts today, and if all goes well, it should be fixed by thursday. ill let you know for defo nearer the time
  2. get on appears to be offering an hour free http://www.geton.co.uk/ Roundabouts and mini roundabouts might be an issue as well. Good Luck!
  3. to prevent thurther cases the best thing would be to "loose" your licence, pay the £20, so you have 2 licences, use 1 for updating, etc, and another one to keep so if in the event, you can just show the arrogent pen pushers. i would highly doubt that they would deny that their own licence is "resonable proof"
  4. With respect, you may confuse by posting that link, since it takes you to the original version which is dated 27.3.06 The link I posted earlier in the thread takes you to a statement from Paul Clark MP, the Sec of State for Transport, on the publication of the consultation on the 3rd directive. The statement was issued on 11.11.09 An awful lot has changed in the last 3 years, and the original document is now of little use to anybody other than historians. Agree totally on the MCN point though. They do seem to overuse the journalists maxim - Never let the truth stand in the way of a good story! Indeed its the latest from Paul Clark, but its not from the horses mouth so to speak. according to this:- http://ec.europa.eu/transport/road_safe ... nce_en.htm that version is the latest, there doesnt seem to be any amendments to the 2006 version, and that website does link to this:- http://eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/Lex ... 26:EN:HTML so i can only assume there both the same, and therefore the 2006 version is the absolute latest, and final draft. Our MP's tries to play anything coming from the EU down to possibly hide EU intergration from the public, so im sure youll understand that i have a deep sceptical view of our MP's. And i really do need to read the "raw version", instead of a "filtered" version On the MCN point, i learnt after i went mad infront of 20+ people about these cameras there putting up on some roads of Derbyshire, which store your numberplate, avg. speed over a distance, time, date, and send you road safety related junk mail to your home address (by paying £2.50 to the DVLA ltd) that MCN had reported on, and we never saw any
  5. I diddnt see anything in the latest version of the 3rd licence directive about not being able to ride 125's (i.e cat A1) without a test pass, i feel its yet another half arsed truth portayed by MCN. the problem is that these directives are a compromise, for example, sweeden is very against motorbikes, whereas spain, etc tend to be more liberal, the UK is just about in the middle, not too strict, but not exactly praising the form of transport either, so all this 3 stage bollocks there bringing in is simply a compromise between all the member states. full version os the 3rd licence directive can be found here:- http://ec.europa.eu/dgs/energy_transpor ... nce_en.pdf
  6. thanks very much, on closer inspection it looks like just the casing needs replacing so it might not be nesessary cheers
  7. ive had a spill, the only thing that needs replacing is the speedo/rev counter housing. will i have to get my log booked stamped to say what the milage was on the old speedo? (as the new one will say 0 miles) cheers
  8. bikers on GSXR1000's that spend thousands on making sure the colour scheme of their lid and leather suite match the bikes colour scheme, and ride about 500 miles a year in August (200 if its a rainy August)
  9. I dont bother unless someone give me the nod, but there again i am as miserable as sin
  10. He asked for so it would've been rude not to but why doesnt the website have that? ill shut up now
  11. you had to use a 3rd party convertor to put it in a understandable measurement websites there for everyone, not just for EU bureaucrats
  12. car manufacturers dont publish it as they seem to have more sense, now call me sad, but my gripe is we have a public information website, maintained by the government, which is supposed to give clear information (in this instance) on limitations to engine power to tom, dick, and harry. Now since tom, dick, and harry have been using the imperial version of engine power since the internal combustion engine was invented, and know nothing at all about the metric system, there could be some confusion arising from this. yes, i know its EU law number 1,627,616 part Y to put it in metric, but i thought i had a licence to produce electricity not ride a bike when i did my A2. I could go on, but most will only read up to this point
  13. how many people in this country work in metric engine powers? anyone? no? Idiots
  14. Bike. Car is irrelevant for CBT innit? it does say on the bottom of the DL196 wheather its a full/provisional car, and wheather its on a moped or bike
  15. it look me, and probably many others 3 days to do the full test! if he refuses to give the money back, then report the f**ker to the DSA, chances are they might have plenty of other complaints of this guy ripping people off, and so might take his instructors licence off him. the place you booked with is a bargain, £105 + no additional fee is extremely good, many places do charge extra for a second day (usually half price) good luck!
  16. So technically you should be able to ride a bigger bike than 33bhp with L plates on, to follow this to it's logical conclusion yes, as long as your over 21, and with a DAS approved instructor
  17. all cats on the counter part of provisional entitlement so your provisioanlly entitled to A = motorbike, B+E = car with trailer, GH i think its a road roller or a tank or something silly youll never need to drive all cats on your plastic card are full entitlements so B = car, B1 = light car (quads, reliant robbin, etc) f = tractor, k = pedestrian controlled vehicles (sit on lawnmowers) p = moped and since your only provisionally entitled to motorcycles, you can only ride anything up to 125cc as a note, anybody who has the restricted licence (or licence to produce electricity as i usually say as part of my crap jokes) will notice they have both cat A on their card and cat A on their provisionally entitlement on the paper bit, this is because anything over 33BHP is technically a provisional entitlement and so having an unrestricted bike is like riding a big bike on a provisional licence
  18. Your insurance company may have agreed to keep you on cover, and you may have got away with it, but sorry, riding in mainland Europe on a provisional and CBT is still illegal. Your insurers gave you incorrect information, and had you had a crash, I bet they would have tried to wriggle out of covering you big time. you got lucky a provisional licence (or bike on a full car licence, or car on a full bike licence, etc) isnt part of the European Communities Model driving licence. Its like all the 125 riders in N.Ireland on L plates, they cannot ride over the border to the south because its only valid in the UK
  19. its fairly hard for a bike to slip in the dry around roundabouts unless you were going over some loose gravel, in the wet its a completely different matter. as others have said, take it easy, dont feel rushed by other road users, afterall, you pay your road tax right?
  20. that reminds me I had a couple of girls on wednesday at college asked with enthusiasm what bike i have (i carry my helmet around, and it was the new term so they were new, etc) and when i replied "oh its just a boring 125 commuter, does 60 tops" the look of dissapointment on their faces was a f**king picture in the future ill say the speed in KPH without saying KPH or MPH at the end
  21. Ive always wondered, i imagine the large proportion of the biking fraternity is mostly people using it as a hobby, going to Devils bridge on any given day, most of the bikes look like there never used My story is that i got into biking simply to save money. Car insurance was costing me well over a grand and diesel prices were rising, i did the CBT in February last year, and just planned to pootle about on L plates for a few years until i wanted to get a bigger bike (when insurance would be alot less), to which i would do the DAS, i was hoping to phase the car out, and eventually sell it. That summer I heard that the test was changing in September (at that time, it was delayed until March this year later on) and as soon as i heard the EU were behind this change for safety (i.e money and harmonisation) reasons i invested £400 in getting an A2 licence, just so i have the licence in the bag, and not have to jump through flaming hoops like todays test candidates, and win a little victory over the EUSSR today, my primary reason for getting a bike still holds true, having a full licence for almost 16 months, and never been on anything bigger than a learner legal machine, i got rid of the car and insurance for my YBR is a fraction of what car insurance would be, therefore i can confidently say that my YBR is getting there to paying itself off, a bit like having solar pannels on your roof whats your story?
