  1. Ah cheers mate, good to hear you've passed it. Sounds like you've set yourself the same time period to nail yours! Is it really two spaces wide!!? That's no space at all. I dont think I can manage that. I can do it in about a car length and a bit. If I full lock my CBR it feels like it'll drop (and nearly did once or twice)
  2. Hey guys, Having passed my theory this Saturday I was fairly eager to get my Mod 1 booked so I'd have something to aim for. I've been riding for about a month now, clocking up around 500km (my bike is Canadian:P) and prior to driving (5 years OTR) I'd been riding a CG125 for two years. Anyway, I called up earlier today (Wednesday) to try and get a booking. All the local test centres were full right up till the end of September. That really sucked as I want to keep up momentum. The call operator rather unexpectedly said, "Err, we have something this Sunday". I decided to say bugger it and try my luck. I'm happy with my slow riding and my slalom is okay the majority of the time (My wrist hurts from throttling ) but could stand to be much better. I have no real perspective on the hazard avoidance but I've been using counter-steering more and more (will I actually need it for this?). So my question is, with 4 days (and a job) what can I do to practise? My biggest concern is the U turn which seems to be very very tight.
  3. Good man! Not to far from me either! I'll use your ride as a shining example when I go for a ride on my CBR
  4. Hi mate, I have the same bike. Honestly, you can put a new exhaust on it (scorpion etc) but you'd be MUCH better using it as a good incentive to nail your test. The CBR is a beautiful bike but the L plate are my bane. As much as I want to tear them off and not look like a mug at the local bike cafes it's a sign that you should get your test done. A scorpion can will set you back a few hundred quid and gain you a few BHP but you could put that money towards training or a new bike! Just think, "New Bike" and get that test nailed
  5. Wops just noticed the post date! My bad. Cheers, i think i just need to try it out as often as i can
  6. I tried my hand at counter-steering the other day (after watching Twist of the wrist 2). Funnily enough I think I was doing it anyway, after watching that video I noticed I had been doing a few of those techniques as I rode normally. Now I'm aware of the technique I can try and hone it properly. I tried it a couple of times on 20mph corners and it felt very "odd". When I nudge the "wrong" bar I feel like I want to go in that direction. It feels almost a little unexpected the bike suddenly goes in the opposite direction (even though I did it fully in the knowledge I'd turn the correct way). Does anyone have any tips for counter-steering?

Ah crap, that;s even worse. Yeah the police just don't seem to do anything. I was robbed at Christmas a few years back, came back to my flat to find it completely ran-sacked. Police come around, dusted a few finger prints and never heard from them again. For some reason that xmas I took all my stuff home in my car, I only lost a cheap laptop.

Yeah good man. I've got my attack plan all ready. Straight onto the roof extention then a wrestler style jump with a firm swing with an chin up bar knowing my luck I'll fall on my arse. Neighbours managed to move my bike without setting the disk lock alarm off which I thought was amazing. I can't fart near it or it'll go off

Man that's terrible mate. I can't believe these cretin decide they deserve your property. I really hope they fry for that. Really gutting and it's your new bike. Not to sound masochistic but do you have any pics of the damage they did? I'm curious to see how they attack the bike.
  10. Looks fantastic mate! I need to find a good spot in London. All that's around here are big motorways
  11. Congrayulations matey, highly envious!
  12. I vaguely recall a similar problem on my old CG. It seems like a really major oversight they'd stick poor mirrors on a bike. Of all the safety equipment you'd want to work your mirrors are the first thing you rely on! I may have to invest in a decent larger set
  13. When I looked at the mirrors they seemed to be bolted to the breaks which I didn't fancy messing with. Would the stalk move? I'm worried about forcing it and snapping something. The mirror themselves move around but there's a point where, as I mentioned, they become loose and just fall. I've managed to find a sweet spot where I can see behind the bike but I'm still having to look around a lot more. When I'm driving I have an obsession with whats going on behind me which I seem to carry on when I'm riding. As for the tax disc, yeah I think I'll go ahead and do that. Sadly my tool box(es) are geared up for solding and welding rather than wrenching bolts . Hopefully I wont screw up the bolt to much unscrewing it.
  14. Hey guys, These are shockingly newish questions but sadly my service manual wasn't to helpful. As I was riding home on my new bike I noticed the mirrors were basically completely out of alignments and moving them to the appropriate position simply made them loose. What's the best way to readjust a mirror on a CBR125? Second stupid question is, where on earth do you attach the tax disc? I've been roaming around the bike and looking at various pictures on the net and the most likely place would be on the chain side of the rear tie but I cannot see any fixing points. The only potential place is the bolt that secures the chain guard. I'm worrying eyeing up my car tax disc sticker Can anyone point me at the right direction? (RTFM is a perfectly valid answer )
  15. Doesn't have to be. Depends on how you want to do it, what kind of experience you have and how quickly you pick it up etc. Have you done the CBT yet or not? Hi dieliekdawg, yes I completed my CBT about a month ago. I've got about two years riding experience but that was a long time ago and now I'm on an entirely different bike (CG > CBR). What did you recommend? I'm a learn by doing kind of guy, I like inital instruction but I don't really "get it" till I get some time to practise myself. When I do this kind of training I find I'm just mirroring what they tell me and failing to understanding the idea which isn't great
  16. hehe, I'm starting to feel old! I'm so used to things changing every 6 months (moving about, new jobs yada yada) yet everything has gone quiet lately (hence the bike) Yeah the DAS seems the obvious option but it's very pricey. I've looked at MOD1+2 (for the A2) and, touch wood, it doesn't look to be that difficult. I'm wondering with a bit of guided training I can just do that. I can't imagine I'll get a faster bike for some time (hell I just bought a CBR125, and I've had the same 'car' for 6 years) so I'm in no rush to ride superbikes.
  17. Hey guys, Though it's been many many years now, I rode for 2 years and put about 10k on my old CG125 (lots of long distance riding, in all bloody weathers) and now I'd like to get back up to speed again. My problem is I'm quite shaky and need an experienced biker to give me a good bollocking if I forget my life saver and generally give me advice on the road. The DAS seems like the obvious choice, I'm 23 ( , I'm getting old) but it's a huge amount to blow for an idiot like me (easily upwards of 800 quid at GetBike). 3-4 days of shotgun training will probably be wasted on me. I think I'd be much better with an hour or two a week from an experienced rider but bugger if I can find anything like that near me (South-West London). I'm planning to do my theory asap. Most of it looks common sense and I did my car test years ago. The little DVD's you get seem to be filling in the blank nicely but I wouldn't want to take the same attitude to MOD1. Does anyone have any advice for me?
  18. I paid around £720 I think, a few months ago. That included practical, theory, 5 days and the loan of kit including the theory DVD. Blimey that's cheap. Where'd you do that? I'd like to do my DAS but paying hundreds seems crazy. I think I'd rather just do mod1+2 on my own
  19. That's basically the reason I'm buying online. You can get *far* better quality gear for a lower price online. As counterintuitve as it sounds. I'd rather risk a £70 Caburg online that a 50 quid "demon" in a shop. I hear the BX-2 is quite good. I'm lucky as my budget wasn't too tight.
  20. Oh that's awesome. Would be a good laugh for halloween. Almost tempted to pick one up to scare the guys at work
  21. Re: Helmet fit. I've tried out the helmet before from a friend who bought one. Fit is actually quite good but yes, buying online without checking first is a major gamble
  22. Hey guys, Thought I'd share today's pain. I'm up against the clock to gear up and pick up a bike I get before the seller goes with another buyer so I spent the last couple of weeks trying to find the best kit within my budget. I'd settled on two helmets the Marushin Tiger (~£70) and Caberg V2R (~£100) after finding some good safely information around the web and on MCN. I took a good look around my local dealers (London) and none had those lids and nothing comparable for a reasonable price so I decided to risk buying online. I found a good deal on george white website (edit by vicki to remove url)had my size and delivered quickly. My justification was, they've got to have it delivered to the store - how worse can it be if it's couriered to me? Well, it arrived today. They sent the wrong model (MX version) which was annoying (cheaper) but the complete lack of packaging was unforgivable?! Between the concrete and helmet there was 3 mil of corrugated card :S - Considering how cheap bubblewrap is I'm amazed they didn't bother to put any in the box! I nearly had a heart-attack when the misses went to drop the box a few inches. Anyway, I'm now back to the drawing board - great. I may end up having to pick up some cheap Box BX helmet to collect the bike - bloody annoying after I went to all the effort to find a safe helmet http://atl.mnetcs.com/Misc/Personal/Bike/GeorgeWhite/P1020129.JPG http://atl.mnetcs.com/Misc/Personal/Bike/GeorgeWhite/P1020130.JPG [edit] All respect to George Whites'. Guy rang me up was very apologetic and has replaced the helmet. Good show guys, keep an eye on that packing in future.
  23. I thought I'd give Copilot a try but it seems the Andriod version is no good. I'd use my Car gps but it needs power . The only other GPS I have doesn't have a 3.5mil headphone jack. I need to pick up my new bike from the other side of london - not looking forward to it!
