  1. I would very much fit into the farming community here on that thing. RTTW would be great too. I am actually half tempted.
  2. in terms of the video it really is first class. the mount position is really good too. is it a chest mount? Only criticism and it might be by design if so forgive me but hearing the engine/exhaust is half the fun for me. It felt like 3 minutes of being denied!
  3. Not sure on the outcome injury wise but it looked like the car clipped the rear end of the bike. if the car had hit the middle of the bike leg and hip destroyed..
  4. hello fairly simple one this. Either a guesstimate or perhaps you know as you have done it recently or even are an instructor/tutor... What full power bikes do they use for the mod2. I was thinking they would be something farly linear in power like a honda CB but I hear some did it on mt07. any info appreciated. I just want to watch some vids on the way the bikes operate to prep mysrlf fully. thank you.
  5. there are pipes just under £100 but to be honest I would be shooting myself in the foot if I were to buy one, would need an end can too probably £150 minimum unless I buy from a dodgy arab. BBQ paint is on its way £10.
  6. grey area where parking on pavement is concerned (outside of london). parking on a public road without tax is illegal. if you sorn it it has to be on private land. your looking at half (possibly) the value of your motorbike if the council get wind, looking at upwards of 500 in penalties and clamp fees etc, no tax, no insurance etc.. not worth it imo. is there anywhere you can keep it off road?

  8. I suppose it is mostly a case of 1 size does not fit all and of course just budget conscious seating ergonomics. I have to have my insoles custom made as I have a very high arch. I know that unless I am very lucky with whatever bike I buy post-test I will probably have to have something either aftermarket or custom if I am going to go on adventures and not get sore knees. Pletny of options out there a saddler can make you whatever you want within reason.
  9. the adage that chinse bikes = bad is starting to become obselete. Mainly because UK importers are waking up to the need for chinese bikes to be fit for UK weather. that said the qaulity of a lexmoto is poorer no doubt, mine is rusting like a rusty thing from rustville with a bad case of rustitess. that said if you are prepared to maintain often than the important parts such as frame, wheels,brakes, engine electrics are faultless imo. its the sundries that rot...
  10. Hello gents. had my motorbike theory test booked for today. My nearest test centre (9 miles) did not do the motorbike theory so I had to travel to Ayr which is around 50 miles away. (its only software, the apparatus is the same, the mind boggles at the muppetry involved in that) anyway I had a few options in terms of routes: Option 1: A roads, ferries to belfast and the main Northern route to glasgow. this route with a headwind on my 11bhp bike ( I weight close to 17 stone) is a deathtrap plain and simple. lorries for miles, potholes, cross winds. Buckfast swilling lowlanders etc.. Option 2: A 5 hour detour through the valleys of the galloway forest park. scenic and brrrrrrr. Option 3: slightly off piste through the galloway forest and up and over a few hills. not much longer than the direct lorry infested route. Now the day before I did the usual pre ride prep on the bike ( wont bore you with that here) and I also planned my route and did a weather check on the route. now I knew there was sleet/snow/ice forecast and I was out in the sleet the night before but acording to the forecast it was fairly mild in terms of snowfall so all looked fairly reasonable Thus I decided I would take option 3. I set off with an hour to spare for road conditions, pee breaks, unforeseen whatstits etc. When I set off it was a few degrees above 0, no ice at my house just wet roads, fairly ammicable. my elevation is about 160 feet above sea level. I had a few hundred feet elevation climb( about 450) over a moor which was a little icy in places, frost on the verge , some ice but mostly just wet, no problems just take it steady. As I continued north I had an 11 mile stretch that climbed up to about 800 feet. I knew as I set off that the situation might change, I might find it got worse, more ice, more sleet, more snow but I was not preppared for just how bad it could change in 2 or 3 miles. As I climbed it went from slushy patches to solid ice, banks of fog, snow covered trees and eventually to a road that had 2x 12 inch tracks of tarmac showing through the snow ( it was at this point I should have known I had phuketed it up, turn back before its too late?) traffic had been moving on that road already, no problem just knock it down into 2nd, keep that tire on that tarmac dont stray into the snow. about 1 mile later I am on my face in a ditch with the engine revving its nutts off because my hand is on the throttle fully pinned and I'm gurning like a 90's child of the night. I hit the kill switch pick the bike up ( 125 FTW) and settle in back on the black stuff. I had simply touched the front wheel on the white stuff ever so slightly and it went! Check the bike over, rear brake lever slightly bent, lots of mud and snow in my face, no harm done really.. not going to let this defeat me, the crest is 2 miles away, it will get better from there.. got to make it to my TEST! Another 500 yards and that black strip of tarmac no longer exists. I am using my feet as stabilisers, visability is about 50 yards, I cant even see where the peak of the hill is, the GPS wont work, no reception.. and I am off again. this time downhill slightly bike just drifted for about a yard then ditched me. no further damage, just another gurn session and lots of profanity. Time to admit defeat.... So I failed my theory because I made 2 mistakes. the first mistake was understimating the weather at elevation, the second was not knowing when it was time to turn back! How many P's in that saying again? some pics here forgive the poor quality. This was when the main elevation climb started and things started getting a bit hairy, looking back the way I came. fog banks rolling in, rather stunning. roads started to become a narrow strip of salvation with chaos and despair either side , looking back the way I had come.   11. When I was in Cuba there were a lot of MZ 250's they all looked ancient but well serviced. ask a cuban.
  12. thanks for the input most appreciated. any issues with the knees or seat for longer trips do you think? The fuel range of the MT07 is anywhere between 120 - 160 so you would have to plan your route, seat is hard, but I believe there is a comfort option. After 120 mile, I would want a break and a stretch anyway. If your knees are bad, I think you may have a problem. Fortunately I don't find it that bad Thanks for that info. I just had a look at aftermarket seat options and there are an abundance of options for raising the seat height and I could also take it to an upholsterer for extra foam and height. seems viable, best get my license done and book a test ride. thanks again.
  13. Standing at 6 feet and over 17 stone, 'I ride an MT07'....There I said it.... I bought this bike for commuting (the GS is just too big for commuting) however I have fitted a screen, heated grips and chain oiler. The MT07 is a little belter, its quick enough for today's roads and it makes my commute great fun, its light and agile. I would have no problems doing the mileage you mentioned, however my knees are slightly more raised than on the GS. I have also had a 650 V Strom until I had a head on collision another great bike but also quite big/tall. The MT07 for me is the size of a 125 but with 698cc added fun. Go and test ride some and find out if which suits you best and enjoy thanks for the input most appreciated. any issues with the knees or seat for longer trips do you think?

  17. Hello folks. theory test coming up. expecting to pass A license by start of summer. Just want to explain the roads I will use regularly and see if this bike or another might suit? Most of the roads I ride on (commute all weathers) are B roads that have sheep,cows, deer, badgers, hare (you get the drift) and sh1te and more sh1te and cattle grids etc. the latter part of the commute is a 60mph single lane dual carriageway. 75% of my riding will be on this route (20 miles 50/50splitt) the rest will be wherever whenever and the thrice yearly 348 mile round trip to see my most amazing mum. I currently do all of the above on the fried rice 125. I am 6 feets and 16 stone. if thats relevant. I wont be buying new ( got 4.5k at a push) I have tried a 2 stroke sports bike (NSR for a few hours) I have also had a few hours on a CB 400 super four ( that was nice) and also a rather short bum puckering ride on a zxr 750 from the early 90's ( I think the word I would use for it is wh0re but if thats too NSFW I apologise) I also have knee issues so being tucked in and knees bent is a no-no. I do like the idea of a triumph but the money... So if anyone has ridden the mt-07 or indeed not. and can tell me if the bike is suited to such journeys or indeed for similar money what might suit better? i appreciate a jack of all might not exist. TLDR: upright riding, dodgy roads, winter riding, short commutes, occasional long distance. ( I also want to grin) many thanks in advance . also how hard/easy are getting test rides from dealers?

  19. Much appreciated gents. I reckon I will just repeat the process (sand and paint maybe BBQ...) close to sale, get it looking tidy and make sure the new buyer knows the exhaust is made of cheese.( after he bought it)
  20. Hello people. I have a lexmoto venom that I am hoping to be selling on before summer (tests inbound) so obviously I want to tidy up the bike before selling on so it holds its value more and of course does the next [strikeout]sucker[/strikeout] new rider a good turn. The only real issue with the bike I cannot seem to rectify is the rusty exhaust. It rusted slowly and surely (I ride every day more or less) and I did try ACF-50 applications but being the exhaust it soon seems to burns off, my next step was to remove the entire exhaust right up to the engine and give it a bit of a sand down and then spray paint it with VHT paint.( september time) The thing is the rust is just coming back through... I do not have a pic of mine but here is a pic ( pulled off the internet so sorry if its your bike...)of the bike model showing the exhaust for reference (not sure what use that is) the rust starts at the engine and goes all the way along the pipe and right up to the silencer/end can cap. it looks more like this>(again for reference) So to cut this off before I get going on a novel what did I do wrong? do I need to engage some heavier duty cleaning on it with a grinder or something? is there a paint I need to prime it with before I use the VHT paint? any ideas,advice,tips greatly appreciated and it must be known that i dont simply want to cover it up so it sells I want it to last a decent amount of time for whoever buys it ( long enough for me to move address...) many thanks in advance
