Run a Google search for sports tourer bikes.

These generally come with full fairings (good for wind protection for you and dirt/grime protection for the bike), more comfort and they are not as "aggressive" as an out-and-out sports bike, but will still have a good amount of sportiness, ability in corners and grunt. Depending on the model, they generally are a balance of sports looks and riding feel, comfort, reliabilty and touring ability.

A 600cc should be enough but some come with de-tuned 750cc engines which would be approximately the same. 1000cc would be too much I think and not necessary.

I like Hondas so a CBR600F or VFR750/800 would be my initial choices, but there are plenty of equivalents from other brands.

A tip from my experience, especially if you have doubts.

While you are searching, ask about breakdown recovery if they offer it as an optional extra. I usually get this as it only costs a bit more and I've used it a few times when I ran out of fuel/crashed/bike broke down. I suspect (but not sure) that it would be cheaper as an add-on through your insurance company's cover, rather than a separate service from another company which is what I read people ask about.

Also consider if anyone else will likely ride your bike or if you plan to take it abroad (overseas insurance cover) as sometimes these extras really are not very much at all but can be very useful. Also, sometimes if I get a few good quotes, I'll bargain down, especially if I like the company but I think they can do better with the price.

Wow, this is a real classic bike and you don't see them often at all. Take good care of it, I hope the new lease of life goes well and you get to enjoy the bike soonest.

Hey brother, you need to stop riding like that or you will probably die, or worse, you could become severely handicapped and then probably you can't eat, sleep, have sex with any women, walk, dance, do painting, ride a motorbike, ride a bike, think or use your brain, work, make money, move your body, have a family, look after your family, see with your eyes, go to the toilet by yourself, clean yourself, go to the gym, use a computer, do normal things in life which you like to do (etc.) properly or maybe not at all for the rest of your life which is probably quite a few decades.

Thank you for the interesting comments. I think I can clarify some of them here, but after the survey is ended.

Much information is actually in the survey itself, as it's required that participants know certain things in advance and after the test section is completed.

There is still some way to go to reach the minimum number of responses which I need for this project, so for those who have not done so and would like to participate, please do take part. I really appreciate it.

Also do make sure to follow the instructions in my first post to be entered for the raffle. Amazon still delivers through the quarantine and there's absolutely loads of things you can purchase on Amazon nowadays.

and i have to say that i have never seen so many people in our village since the start of this lot walking, running, riding their bicycle, walking their dog and pushing prams it has never happened at any other time

I've seen videos and read in the news (with pictures) about people:

- taking a tortoise for a walk (on a lead)

- taking a chicken for a walk (on a lead)

- taking a stuffed dog for a walk (on what looks like a belt), actually dragging the soft toy along the ground

- people walking around for hours with plastic shopping bags to make it appear that they had just been out to get some food

I'm in Spain at the moment and see all new levels of creativity occurring!

Actually, it's very serious here so I advise you all to take the utmost care and attention and be super/hyper vigilant. Do not underestimate this highly contagious and very deceptive virus. You don't want what's happening here to happen where you are

By the way this is a highly highly contagious virus so if you have any symptoms you need to call and get the test and isolate immediately to stop the spread. The medical professionals will advise you better so it's best to speak to them if you need only to isolate or need to go to the hospital to prevent further damage/increased risk.

I've had good experiences with tank bags. It's another idea. I've used them for carrying many different things.

Easy access to items as it sits in front of you. With many you can remove them in just a few seconds and many double as a rucksack/swing over bag also. Perhaps you may have to add extra padding if the tank bag is not specifically designed to carry a laptop.

It looks to me like the car may have overcommitted slightly but then came on the brakes.

Your defensive riding (and not speeding) helped a lot here to avoid an accident.

It was definitely not right what happened and had this been an adult it may have been classified as attempted robbery. I would say in general it's probably illegal to jump/sit on someone's vehicle without permission.

Where I have lived you would not believe what happens. In Spain, Barcelona, some people literally just sit on any random scooter in the street like it's a public seat and make a phone call or do whatever they want etc.. When I first saw this I got angry even though it was not even my scooter! I think perhaps this behaviour has reduced somewhat though.

In fact on many bikes if you read the owners/Haynes manual, technically a person should not be putting their whole body weight on the bike when on a stand/side stand so that could be doing damage in itself. In general, motorbikes are not designed for this.

That's cool. I love finding old abandoned stuff in the middle of nowhere.

I used to go long distance running and biking in the deserted forests in Germany and I found some crazy stuff like war bunkers and huge derelict mansions etc.. It's like going back in history.

Turbocharge it and supercharge it... and get NOS!

It's so much fun, even small bikes, and I kinda like travelling alone as it's relaxing and I don't have to be thinking of anyone else (in cars, busses etc. there are always other people). For me riding de-stresses me also. I don't know about other people, or it's just me, lol?
