  1. Is it necessary or overkill for me to replace the bottom end bearings on my bike, i have the cases split anyway and the bike has 48k on it but the rods feel great. Free moving with no free play. It's about £100 for a set but i dont want to cause damage by removing the nuts and risking stripped threads or anything like that if i dont have to.


    Side note question. Has anyone got any good tips for removing 27 year old original black rubber gaskets from aluminium without causing damage?


    Also i know i have been posting a lot but i so much free time at the moment with all this going on and I'm going crazy sitting in the house with the mrs and the baby. Lol

  2. Hi, i have split the cases today and got a look at the gearbox and have spotted the reason mine was probably stuck in gear. I will upload some pictures and hopefully someone can confirm and also advise me if they would change the oil spray pipe as it looks like it's has a bit of bash.


    Also the main sprocket has been welded on loose!!

  3. Thank you for the replies, i know it's a huge job but the teardown for the bike was so quick as i could basically walk around the entire thing stripping it bit by bit. Everything has its own little baggy with details drawn on with a sharpy. I made sure could source parts before tossing any and have noted what is gone.


    The problem wasn't topping oil every now and then, I'm usee to oil consumption on my vehicle's. I had an alfa 156 jts and it took a lotre every 750 miles and my current bmw 330ci has 183k on it and uses about 500ml per 1000 miles.


    But i was stopping every 25/30 miles to top up 250ml as the light came on and watching huge puffs of white smoke both acceleration and deceleration. Not ideal as i could only fit 500ml under the seat. The smell was horrendous aswell. I'm eager tonsee how it turns out but i know it's going to take a while.

    I very recently posted about my plan to rebuild my old fzr. The first piece of info I'd like to know is about the rebuild process, the order I'd like to do may not be the most efficient but the total rebuild budget wise will take me 2 years as i plan on upgrading engine internals and suspension components and everything else in between regarded as consumables i.e bearings and stuff.


    I have the model with the black painted frame and i want to keep it black as i dont fancy the upkeep of the polished frame so i want to get powder coated or enameled. I plan to ride the bike when it's done not use it as a show piece.


    When i have the frame done I would like to refresh the fork internals and put on decent shock but my concern is that they will probably sit for 18 months untouched. In my mind this is worse than general wear and tear but i need advice from someone who knows what they're talking about. Will the oil or seals go bad from

    Just sitting so long?


    The engine rebuild will be the most time consuming due to the fact that the gearbox is knackered and the cylinders are out of spec so i am boring them and geting new pistons but this all costs lots of money. Would it be best to just store the frame, wheels and all other components and leaving them till last once the engine is completed and ready to join the rest of the bike?


    Last thing will be the fairings and tank to be smoothed and repainted.

  5. Hi, new here.


    I would like to start by saying i am rebuilding my 1993 fzr1000 exup, it drinks oil like there's no tomorrow and it is generally poor condition. Most of the tear down is complete and i the cause of the oil consumption is both bad valve seals and worn rings and sleaves. I will be boring out to 1040cc and getting rid of the troublesom exup valve. The forks are leaking and the subframe is rusty. The gearbox is knackered aswell as the fairings so i have my work cut out for me.


    I am planning on doing before and after photographs aswell as documenting the entire process over the next 2 years i have planned and budgeted to do it.


    I am sure there are many knowledgeable people on here who can help me the way to bring my poor bike back to life.


    My old rf900r will be a reliable steed for the time being.
