  1. ok. Cheers for replies. Its impossible for me even to get anything from amazon. Ill just stick to the car/jet wash place and some elbow grease for now then... stay safe.
  2. cheers for answers. bleach sounds like a good idea, dont know why i didnt think of that. Dont worry, Im sure oil be able to get them there in one piece (boom boom) 'might break...' good one
  3. ...but im not sure anyone checks the other thread as it hasnt been posted on since July. 1st q. Is there much advantage to taking your chain off when you clean it or is it not really necessary? "2nd question, Just assuming you lived somewhere where it isnt possible to buy chain cleaner or parafin or chain lube or any other product, what would you do to clean your chain. My current method is washing it with soap and hot water, rinsing it and then applying engine oil. The alternative method seems to be to take it to a garage and they cake it with grease. Im not too convinced either of these two methods are a great way to ensure longevity or performance from my chain. Any practical suggestions greatly appreciated and the beers in the post.
  4. i got the top off the barrel and the key turned straight away. I dunno, it must just be all the rain or something. Cheers anyway
  5. ive no idea how this happened, could just be the weather, anyway... could i start by saying that I am an honest member of society and have no intention of doing ill deeds or any other shennanigans last night, as i parked my bike up, i put the steering block lock thing on as i usually do using the ignition key. When i came out and tried to get it ready to go home, the key wouldnt turn properly and got stuck at 9 o'clock position (12 o'clock is ignition). I cant get the key past 9 o'clock, thought i can the steering lock off. Ive tried wd40 - nowt. Im going to try my spare key tonight but IM not holding my breath on that as its worse han the original key. (the original key is fine in the other locks - ie petrol tank and storage compartment, so i dont think its bent). I thought that maybe theres a way i can open it up using a screw driver and get it started. Is this possible? I really dont want to shell out for a new ignition barrel and i dontcare if i screw the existing one as long as i can get it home and use it (temporarliy) as its pretty safe where I live. what to do? cheers
  6. yeah, i thought that cos ive never had any trouble before...
  7. cheers, i only ran the bike for 2 mins so following what you said, Im hoping it should be ok. Thanks for the tip.
  8. in short, i took my bike in to get a service las week, when i went to pick it up i got it round the corner and it stopped. It turned out that the blokes in the bike shop had left it out all weekend in the rain (we had around 400 mm over the weekend here) and the petrol tank had got soaked inside. Anyway, he drained it off and put some new fuel in. It seems a bit slower than usual but working ok... Is there anything i should be doing now to get it running well again? Thanks for any input
  9. dont know if this is the right tactic but i always practice trying to ride into an empty space if i think im going to have break hard (eg in heavy traffic). I also practice hitting 'sleeping policemen' standing a little with my arms loose so that i do that out of instinct should the need arrise. Ive got the habit of sometimes swerving out of the way and sometimes going over potholes etc now and being in control. and finally, i never ever sit in blind spots .I gun it that 1/2 metres just to make sure im not in one. So far, this has kept me out of trouble and the roads here are a bag of $$#@%
  10. my front sprocket came loose on sunday and i lost the nut. When I put it back on, i stamped on the wrench to get it tight but the guys in the garage seemed to be able to get it much tighter. They also bent over the washer over and hammered it down against the nut as well for some reason, Im assuming to stop it working loose. But yeah, it seemed to be very, very tight when it was finished, a lot tighter than i could have done it with a manual socket set.
  11. I put the nut on myself with a wrench and then rode it to the bike shop. I kept stopping every 2 kms or so but it was fine. The bloke in the garage put the nut on tighter/properly with an electric socket set so its all fixed now. Everything else was fine (ie chain/sprockets etc.). Horseynat... The bike is a Hyosung comet (the blue one). I had the cruiser too but sold it a few months back. cheers everyone for tips and advice
  12. ive got the washer and nut (he took the lot off the same engine he had lying around) and tomorrow morning im going to go and get the bike. I intend to ride it to the bike shop (about 20 kms away) and get him to check it over. I dont have much choice in the matter really cos its parked up in the middle of a mountain pass (i hope). The sprocket is only 6 months old (most of that is over winter) as i just had the chain and sprockets replaced. I think its just a bad picture, the sprocket looked fine when i opened the cover. Thw washer was fudged though. BUUUUT, Ill heed your advice about stopping and checking it though as i dont have the means to tighten the nut on as well as I would like to without an electric socket set. fingers crossed...
  13. im waiting for replacement parts to come (washer etc). As soon as I get them Im off to find my bike and if the damage is worse than simple, im getting it taken into the garage and let them do it. I should be able to ride it in though i think (hope/pray) even if the output shaft is damaged. I dont see why the chain would need replacing though unless the front sprocket needs changing? I only rode it 500ms, downhill and it was in neutral most of that time. Ill see tinight I suppose. cheers again for replies!
  14. ok, looks simple enough. i thought there may have been damage to the shaft/sprocket as it had been spinning separately. thanks v much
  15. to cut a long story short... I was out riding today. The road was really bumpy and the bike suddenly seemed to go into neutral (it didnt sound too healthy either). I took the engine sprocket cover off because i thought the chain may have somehow become detached. To my surprise it wasnt but (and heres where im getting into the realms of dont know what Im talking about...), it looks as though the engine sprocket nut and washer were missing. When I put the bike into gear the rod thing that attaches the sprocket to the engine was spinning independently but the sprocket wasnt turning. I found something attached to the crap inside the cover which is bent all to hell. I took photos of the sprocket and washer (i think its a washer). Is this an easy fix job? or will it need an engineer to fix it? Ive left it by the side of the road in the middle of nowhere and took a bus home so ill have to go back out and try to find it next week once i get the bits. any help much appreciated. Thanks
  16. mines 2004. I found out after id bought it that my manafacturer (Hyosung) didnt start making decent engines/parts until after that time so i had to spend a lot on repairs. Its up to spec now and running really well though.
  17. thanks for all the replies. its not too bad at the moment so ill try to keep it topped up. if it gets any worse, ill give it a clean. cheers
  18. cheers. Its just a wee bit. It seems to be ok as long as i dont leave it standing too long. Ill get it checked anyhow. thanks
  19. last time i had a look in when it was dry, i noticed a bit of rust on the inside of the tank. is this a big problem? chaars
  20. well, if it makes you feel any better, you were, ahem... right
  21. hmm... actually, I know very little about bikes/repairs so I wouldnt have known what to 'specifically' check the cable for (eg kinks) if rennie hadnt pointed that out - as a starting point. If it was a case of my just having 'common sense', i wouldnt have needed to post on this forum because I have been fixing mountain bikes for years. But its not a mountain bike, its a lot more complicated than that. Hence the fact that I ask for technical advice. Peace.
  22. im ging to give it a check over in the morning (korean time). If I cant find out whats the problem its going in. Ill let you know what the problem is/was. cheers both for input!
  23. Yeah, it was very peaceful. I took the ride right in the middle of 'solar new year' which is one of asias biggest holidays (which means everyone is at home with family). Busans a great city but penned in - so not a lot of good riding there (but fine for the other...). Im situated about an hour up the East coast. Its a small, historic city and plenty of good riding. If you come to korea you should come up here. Its (as far as i know) the only place you can hire 125cc scooters and ride around.
