  1. When I was doing my cbt I was told to use the back brake at first, then shown to gently use the front brake. I was told the reason for this is they do not want brand new learners getting a fright and grabbing a handful of front brake then being put off for life when they go flying over the handlebars once I was on to proper lessons I was taught more about braking and how/when to use the front and back brakes.
  2. I've got my Mod 2 later today. Can anyone else confirm that you are not supposed to signal when pulling out on the angled or hill starts? Thanks I am sure I was told not to signal that you are going to pull out for the same reasons as above ie car might flash to let you out but signal as you are moving out to let the person behind you (in this case the examiner) know what you are doing. So, from stopped- check mirrors and blindspot, after you have checked the road is clear then indicate and pull out.
  3. On lessons and for the test I was told to ride where littlecat said and for the same reasons- in the middle of my lane. This is what I did for my test and passed with no minors
  4. what the f*ck is wrong with people? I'm really starting to wonder how few good people there actually is in the world or if the majority of them are indeed dishonest untrustworthy pr*cks.
  5. Its my upper back thats the problem According to the physiotherapist the very top of my back doesn't really flex and all the flex of my upper back is from this one point just below my shoulder blades (which is there most of the pain is). I've been given various exercises to do but they really don't seem to be making any difference. I'm wondering if doing core strengthening exercises might help : I hope so
  6. This is what my instructor did, you paid a £120 flat fee for your cbt- regardless of how long it took. OP: re Throttleds suggestion, have a look at the GetOn website its through them that many schools offer a free taster session.
  7. I have a gsxr srad atm, and have much the same problem! Its less cramped than the ninja but I can still only ride it for an hour or less so plan on getting risers fitted Don't think helibars make them for bikes the age of mine so hopefully getting custom ones made or save up me pennies for gilles variobar risers. Then I will probably have to get the footpegs adjusted as well so I can actually walk when I get off (must add- I am only in my twenties!!)
  8. Don't know much about this, heard about it through work (someone I work is on one of the bands playing), google Alba West Bike Show for website. 9. Yup they had the versys and w800 Hopefully they'll have another one next year (or sooner)!! I checked the weather for crieff for today yesterday and it had said heavy rain from 10am, but it stayed dry til about 1pm! TBH if Ed hadn't pretty much dragged me out of bed I'd probably not have went due to the forecast! The roads up there are so much better than round here, not a pothole in sight. Ed is now pining for a ninja!
  10. Despite the weather reports for today being torrential rain all day, we dragged ourselves out of bed at 7am and headed north to the Green Welly Stop for the Kawasaki On The Road Demo day. Got there just after 9 and I booked a ride on the Z750R and my oh on the ZX-6R, then a second test ride with him on the 750 and me on the Ninja an hour later. Z750R (with Haggis the dog in the background ) http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y222/iiisecondcreep/Bikey/Kawasaki%20On%20The%20Road%20Demo%20Day/DSC00387Medium.jpg ZX-6R (and Haggis again ) http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y222/iiisecondcreep/Bikey/Kawasaki%20On%20The%20Road%20Demo%20Day/DSC00386Medium.jpg Really glad we went, stayed dry until we set off home! Roads were brilliant as well. Really enjoyed the Z750R, really easy to ride and confidence inspiring in the corners. The position was really good for my back as well. The ninja was stupid amounts of fun, but unfortunately my crippledy back does not get on with the position at all I dono if it was the bikes or the condition of the roads but I was so much more confident riding today than I have been previously, much smoother and faster through corners and overtaking Some more pics http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y222/iiisecondcreep/Bikey/Kawasaki%20On%20The%20Road%20Demo%20Day/DSC00384Medium.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y222/iiisecondcreep/Bikey/Kawasaki%20On%20The%20Road%20Demo%20Day/DSC00382Medium.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y222/iiisecondcreep/Bikey/Kawasaki%20On%20The%20Road%20Demo%20Day/DSC00381Medium.jpg AND! 11. I found mod 2 far easier and less stressful than mod 1. On my 4th attempt at mod 1 I passed with 1 minor, mod 2 I got a clean pass first time!
  12. Temporary uni-bikle http://a7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/248219_10150665423295065_704695064_19099007_2613096_n.jpg
  13. Just registered my interest in test riding the Z750r and Ed the zx-6r, so weather permitting we'll probably head up next weekend
  14. Good luck!!! Did you ever hear back from the DSA re: your complaint?
  15. Work is so quiet today, I have no motivation at all, the only other person in my office today (out of 5 people normally here) has just gone into a meeting which will last the rest of the so I am now bored bored BORED and alone. F*CK IT!
  16. This is how I did it as well. Clicked when I saw the potential hazard and clicked again when it became an actual hazard.
  17. This is the same one I posted about a wee while ago (here). Hopefully the weather will be a little bit better by then : I wonder what they'll have available for test rides. Hmm!

  19. WTF is wrong with people?!!! And why does my little yellowmobile attract such an unbelievable amount of shockingly bad idiot drivers!!!! I am absolutely sick of people making suicidal manoevres in front of my car!!!!!
  20. Unfortunately they're for the gsx, its the gsxr I have. The existing bars are clip ons which attach under the top yoke, because of the fairing normal risers won't fit (I don't want to cut into the fairing), the only off the shelf ones that will are around £300 (gilles variobars), and they are replacement clip-ons with a riser attachment rather than a riser that sits on the top yoke. Hoping to get suitable risers made for a bit less!
  21. Has there been any progress? Well, Ed managed to get it started a few weeks back (although we still don't know why it wasn't starting in the first place, or what to do to make sure it doesn't happen again) and I have a new chain and sprockets sitting here waiting to be fitted which will hopefully sort the gear problems out. Just ordered to tool to remove the old chain and join the new one together. Also need to get a torque wrench for putting the back wheel back on once the new chain/sprockets are on. Assuming that fixes the gear problems I then need to get handlebar risers so I can ride longer than 30-40mins without crippling back pain. I've also read that i might need to get longer clutch/brake cables to accomodate the extra distance to the riser bars (hopefully not!). May also need to get lower footpegs so I can still walk when i get off
  22. Starting to feel like I'll never be 'out and about'. Had my bike 6 months today, as of next weekend it'll have been off the road 3 months- not including the few weeks it was off the road at the start of the year when it wouldn't start before.
