one of the probs is i would have too have a day off work that adds over £100 to the bill.i suppose most people have that problem .i just wont to get on a bike ,even a 125
-
yes i know thats why I'm thinking of getting a 125, get riding experience and perhaps do the mod one off my own back OK it'll mean I'm stuck with a 250 but that will do me for work and the odd ride out

MOD2 next friday!
steve s replied to dingosteve's topic in CBT, Test and Advanced Training Information
good luck with it mate -
well yes ,i was going to have two three hr lessons at £ 30 per hr then another three hr lesson to do the test thats £270 then the test plus a day off work which would be over £400.this seems to be a very expensive hobby .OK the instructor said that depending on how i got on with the 500 i could spend some of the time on road practicing for my mod 2 ,but still expensive.it seems that the way to get a bike license is to book a 5 / 6 day course and have a week off work and hope that you pass all 4 parts of the bike test ,that would cost me about £1.300 .i have passed my cbt and my theory but i would still be looking at a 4 day course ?

hi all.been thinking(which is normally a bad thing for me.OK been talking to the instructor about having lessons for my mod 1 and the cost seems to be getting out of hand.we were looking at two three hour lessons plus a three hr lesson to include getting too and from the test center, and it seems that getting a test on a Saturday will take weeks n weeks so i would need a day off work (I'm self employed so no work no pay).all in all the 20 min mod one test + day off + lessons will cost me over £400.and then we can think about lessons for the mod 2.now am i right in thinking that if i pass on a 125 i can ride a 33bhp bike ? and am i right in thinking that most 250s fall in that category.if so I'm seriously thinking about getting a 125 practicing for the mod one and doing it off my own back and then after getting some experience on the road having as few lessons as possible and doing my mod 2 ,sell the 125 n get a 250 .I'm not mean and i do expect people to earn a living but it just seems a lot of money just to pass the mod 1 .how many on here have passed it with out having lessons ,the test itself looks simple with practice.

been talking to the instructor that i had for my CBT,hes going to try and get me a Saturday date for my mod 1 near the end of April and then the plan will be that i have a 3 hr lesson on each of the 2 Saturdays before the test day and an hr warm up before the test itself.and if he decides that i don't need to spend all that time practicing for my mod 1 the he said we would go out on the road to practice for the mod 2 .part three here i come

how much experience
steve s replied to bumble's topic in CBT, Test and Advanced Training Information
hi bumblebabe.you have got me thinking ,and thats not good .i was under the impression that i would need about 3 hrs training then i would pass my mod 1 ,oh dear.if like you after 9 hrs of lessons at the best part of £270 then the mod 1 test £15 and (for me ) a lessons money so i can use a bike £30.the mod 1 could cost me just over £300. and then i can start mod 2. I'm beginning to think that a 125 is the most cost affective way of getting a license .at least it wont cost anything to practice. -

i think your wrong mate it is a big deal, you got through it and like me you can now learn to ride a bike and pass your test .the cbt might only be the start but with out it you walk.all the best .Steve

i need to start having lessons for my mod 1 .now my way of thinking is that i need lessons off road and on a set up just like the one ill be doing my test on,but if i cant find an instructor that can provide that can i learn to pass the mod one on the road ?.this my well be a very stupid question ,if it is then I'm sorry .Steve

thanks all,i did get stressed about it ,but as i was doing the hazard part i realized half way through that i was doing it as well as i could .i couldn't see how i could see the hazards any sooner so if i failed then i gave it as good as i could ,cant do any more .as for mod 1 and 2 I'm not worried about that as if i cant ride well enough to pass then its best i don't ride a bike .i don't feel that the ridden test is there to pi55 me off its there to prove i can ride well enough to pass and be let loose on the road .i actual want a professional rider to give me his opinion ,and if thats stay away from bikes then thats what ill do .but if i do pass the ridden tests then i want to be good ,very good .the good thing about today is i don't have to get a 125

47 out of 50 for the theory test and 55 out of 75 for the hazard .nothing to brag about but still a pass.I'm half a biker, now for mod 1
-
cant add much to that .have been getting 46 - 50 points on the theory test (on my PC) and around 60 - 65 on the hazard DVD.roll on 5 pm tomorrow .
-
got my 2nd theory next week.I'm using the driving test hazard perception test DVD and I'm getting between 60 / 67 out of 75 .i also have the dsa theory DVD and am getting a pass every time ,so next weeks test should be a walk in the park......with my eyes closed.........and both legs tied behind my back........... ha we will see.if i get , computer says no ill get a trike and they can stick the test were the sun dont shine

well thanks for all your comments and advice .I'm taking the test on the 17th and if i pass i pass if i don't ill just have to do it again .I'm going to find an instructor that has premises so i can have lessons for the mod 1 .ill go to a few local bike shops to see if there are any schools locally that can do this.but if all else fails then ill get me a classic 125 to pop to and from work when the sun shines ,which will still be fun .all the best . Steve . PS. now Kristy about my grammar -

OK no more fighting please.Dan you asked ,if i fail my (i take it you meant ridden ) test who would i blame.i would blame me.if i cant ride a bike to a good enough standard to pass the ridden test then i should fail ,but riding is a skill something that you can learn and perfect clicking at the right second when watching a vid isn't its luck.but lets not go there again .I'm not sure if i can be bothered you see a bike would be a toy but its looking like a rather expensive toy .i don't need one i would like one.i regretted not taking my bike test 30 years ago and thought before I'm past it i should give it ago but perhaps i am already past it .i have my next test on the 17 but its not set in stone as to whether i do it or not .i can cancel and get a refund .i could just get a 125 and ride that for the next two years but I'm not sure i would be satisfied with that ,unless it were a classic 125.my wife doesn't want anything to do with bikes so i would only ride it to and from work weather permitting and on the occasional sat/Sunday.perhaps i should get an open toped sports car and a medallion to satisfy my late mid life crises,at least i wouldnt have to take a test -

Hi, your not far out on the age. I've had my bike for a year in April. I passed my theory in July. Just because your bitter about failing doesn't mean you need to take it out on me. If you were as good as you think you are, you would have passed first time. When you fail your test who are you going to blame then? The last part should be aimed at the DSA not me. I'm not a grammar nazi, but you could do with a few private lessons. Think there is a English teacher on here though. you were the one that added to my post and you were the one that suggested that as i cant recognize a hazard on my PC then i shouldn't be driving .no ones taking anything out on you but you seem to think its OK to have a pop at other people.and as for the private grammar lessons could you give them to me,your obviously a qualified English teacher as well as a qualified driving instructor -

hi dan i take it your about 19 and have just done your CBT how do you think i have managed for 30 od years .you learn to read the road by driving as you will find out over the next few years not playing a vid game .dealing with hazards should become second nature its probably one of the most important parts of driving ,and you think that this crap vid game teaches you this .i started to learn how to read the road when i had driving lessons 30 years ago and deal with hazards with out even thinking about them its part of driving .so to be told that i cant take my bike test because I'm not good enough with a vid GAME is bullhooks and to re-do my theory when i legally drive a car is again bullhooks .i did my cbt that proved i can learn to ride a bike the next step should be riding a bike with an instructor not doing a test for the sake of it .and if THEY say I'm not fit to take a bike test then THEY should ban me from driving a car .and another thing how can they say i failed the theory when i passed ?a pass is a pass in the real world i should only have to re take my hazard perception .if i can legally drive a car then i can legally take my bike test ,with out the rip off test
