  1. Cheers,I'm so bad with directions that when I see a sign that says: ''wellcome to town centre'' I wonder what town?
  2. I was gonna start a new thread but thought I might as well write it here, basically I like to ask anyone who lives in mcr to team up somewhere like the town centre on the day of the rally so we can go together. One small issue though,I'm still on Hell plates and can't use the motorway,if anyone's interested let me know
  3. I'm still a bit sceptical about my bike being able to make it there,a big thank you to italian electrics
  4. Thanks to Ian for being a great help,I'm in!hallelujah!!! putting the tent up?well as jezza always says: ''how hard can it be''?
  5. are we ment to screw it back in when checking the oil level?
  6. I live in manchester too, give me a shout if you organize something
  7. Hi there! Are you a 'definite' for the Rally then? If so I'll add you to the attendee list It really depends,I like to spend the weekend there camping with you guys but sadly I haven't got a tent,it'll be pointless turning up just for the day, can't get on it coz gotta ride back ,that's why I was wondering whether I can share a tent with someone here,it'll be very much appreciated
  8. Mines not on the list but I know it'll do over 100 mpg even when you rev its nuts off down country roads
  9. My reserve tap dosen't work, so what I did in the early days was filling the bike to the brim, reseting the milometer and keep riding until it ran out of fuel(hitting reserve which dosen't work),made a note of what mileage it covered then knocked 10miles off that figure.so for example when I hit 190/200miles I know I've got probably a litre of fuel before it hits reserve, just have to make sure you reset the clock to zero everytime you fill up.
  10. Anyone wants to share their tent with Don the jeweler?
  11. Hello people, last year I took the bike for it's MOT and it was failed on the exhaust(was told it's excessively loud ),however in order to quiet it down and get it through the tester used some exhaust packing in the pipe(similar to loft insulation). It's due for it's MOT again and over the last few months it's gone a bit rusty as well so I'm looking to replace it with a new one cheaply which means looking on the bay.As far as I know the CG125 exhaust would work but since mine is a cruiser I'm after something that would go with the image of my machine. Does anyone know if other 125 cruiser exhausts would fit mine? As I said it need to fit a CG125 head and fitted on the right hand side of the bike. Thanks James
  12. Whilst we're on this subject,my user manual says oil change should be done every 1700miles,I stretch mine to 2000 so that way when my odometer hits a whole number I know it's time for an oil change(eg. 12000,14000,16000 and so on.) I ride mine for a few miles to heat up the oil, then empty it in a bucket, slightly lean the bike to the left then let it sit for half hour before filling it in with fresh oil,is there a better way tho,for instance using some sort of engine cleaner you can use to completely clean the engine out before filling it up or am I being a bit fussy?lol
  13. Everytime I'm stock I always get instant response here,it's my plasure to be part of this community
  14. Sure, since bike engines work harder than cars,I can assume the oil is specifically designed to deal with that as well.I'm not really a tight bast*rd,just don't like throwing stuff away lol,can I use that car oil of mine as chain lube?
  15. Hi guys,I was wondering whether it's ok to use car engine oil for bikes?Just to be a bit more specific my user manual recommends: SAE 20W/50 synthetic oil exceeding API SG specifications. Now I just had a look in the shed and found some engine oil I used for my car(15W40). It must have sit there for a good 3 years, now leaving that aside and assuming it was new,is it a good idea to use it on my bike or can it cause engine damage/wear? The bike engine in question is a honda CG125. Many thanks James
  16. Like to thank everyone who offered help,it's a pleasure to be part of this forum
  17. hallefu*kinlujah!Glad it's sorted at last! Is there a way I could save the battery from toasting in future when reg/rec fails?any early signs and symptoms? Thanks James
  18. Ian,it appears the crap days are now over thank God! After changing the reg/rec and the battery(which was toast) I'm showing: Engine off: 12.5V Engine idle: 14.01V Engine revved: 13.98V ish Told these to a mechanic and he said it's charging and all good, what do you think?
  19. Hi Ian,I've got a multimeter(fiver off the bay),battery puts out 10.55V when engine off, like I said when ignition is pressed it reads 3.5V(you just hear a buzzing noise off the starter relay). After bump starting the bike and revving it voltage hardly moves up. Spoke to the mechanic and he said he can only send the battery back to his supplier and they have to check it before giving me a refund.Besides to get himself off the hook he can say he checked the reg/rec at the time and it was all well,it must have gone tits up ater fitting the new battery and I can't prove otherwise can I?
  20. Following the nighmare I have had with my bike last week I want to clarify whether it's the battery at fault or a faulty charging system or a mechanic not telling me the truth after selling me that battery. http://www.themotorbikeforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=37619 Cut the story short, bike died on me last week, took it to a mechanic and he initially said it was a knackered battery. After selling me a new one,a week later it died on me again so I took it back to him and he said reg/rec was faulty so I bought another one, plugged it in,mechanic confirmed the battery he sold me was recharged and a drop test was performed. So I got home and pressed ignition an nothing happened....I've put it through slow charging phase and after days I didn't get a fully charge light! I'm showing 10.5V with the engine off and a substantial drop to 3.5V once the ignition is pressed.(bearing in mind the reg/rec was replaced) I've been running around and spent a few quid so far without any joy and I have a sneaky suspecion that new battery is now buggered and won't charge up. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance
  21. here's a quick update,NO the CG reg/rec wont work on this bike due to the fact it has a 3 way charging system. so I've managed to get hold of a second hand part off the bay(30day warranty).Turns out to be an absolute nightmare this, charged up the battery at slow phase,0.8amp I think, but it dosen't seem to exceed 11.4V so I'm just getting a red light on the battery meaning still charging for the last 24hrts,any suggestions?I'm despirate, tired and hopeless as this is my main method of transport....well it was...
  22. Turns out I need a new rec/reg,spoke to the chap who originally sold me the bike and he said one from a honda cg125 will just slot in and work, starter relay looked a bit knackered too so I've oredered a new one
  23. It's been a week since the bike was fitted with a new battery and today I faced the same problem...again engine won't turn over at all, checked the battery and it's showing 11v,enough fluid inside the cells, what could it be?
  24. Many thanks for the comprehensive explanation,by breaking things down you've made it easier for me to understand,I'm learning as I'm going along.have a good day and ride safe
