  1. What about going the other way? I'm 6'3" and I've noticed on my bike the rear shock is dropped as low as it will go so I want to raise it. I own a 2001 ZX6R and the rear shock is adjustable height. Do you think I'm better off taking it to somewhere like K-Tech to get the bike set-up to my height and weight.

    Running Lean?

Once you get the bike de-restricted, if you need a hand with the carbs give me a shout. I'm only in bolsover.
  3. I'd come along as long as work doesn't get in the way.
  4. Thanks, and yes Ive read far too many threads over the last 3 weeks that have the same problem I had but just end with no result
  5. Is there an earth connection on the coil that maybe just wants a good clean?
  6. Well after 3 weekends of checking, cleaning and re-setting i've finally found my problem. There's a cut off valve switch on the fuel pump. This is burnt out which means the fuel pump is continually pouring fuel into the carbs. New switch ordered and bike booked in for carbs setting and balancing and i'm back on the road
  7. Sounds exactly like what mine is doing at the moment. I've just had my carbs off to give them a clean and now I've put them back they are flooding. If you have a haynes manual it will tell you the amount of fuel that is stored in the float bowl and what height the floats should be set to. Just to try this, I turned my fuel off, held the throttle right open and kept my finger on the start button, eventually the bike started although very rough and obviously died as soon as the remaining fuel in the pipework had been spent.
  8. You have no spark there, have you checked your plug(s)? What condition are they in?
  9. I've just stripped off and cleaned my carbs on a zx6. There all the same, basically your carb has a float system that regulates a certain amount of fuel stored in the carbs all the time. There's a valve on the back of the float which i'm guessing ones stuck in on your bike. Do a quick YouTube search for carburetor strip and clean you'll see.
  10. Just use lead free standard solder, it should be o.k with the temperatures its going to.
  11. Stripped the bike down and had a good check/look around. The spark plugs were knackered so I've put in a new set. I've check all the air feeds and vacume pipes but can't see any problem with those. The Spark plugs were quite wet and one was quite black. On putting the bike back together it sempt allot better although was still lumpy in the low rev ranges upto about 3000 revs. I've run the bike over the weekend and today and the problem has slowly returned to how it was before. I suspect the bike is over fueling and wetting the plugs. Looks like the carbs may need adjusting. Please correct me if I'm wrong or you have any other suggestions?...
  12. A rectifier is made up of diodes, diodes only allow voltage to run one direction. This is a simple bridge rectifier, it converts ac voltage to DC. The general diode test when testing between the points should read a nominal reading in the region of 0.6 upwards and nothing when the probes of the meter are reversed. if you get a reading from the meter with the probes in either direction the rectifier is faulty. You will need to establish each connection on the rectifier to test this though so a service manual or manufacturers drawing will be needed. Alternatively if you can get the bike running long enough to put the meter accross the battery terminals you should read 14Vdc.
  13. My mates just had a similar problem on his XT. Turned out to be a crap connection on his starter relay. Dont know the exact details and he's away on holiday but basically he bought a new original regulator but it would still only put out 12V max. All I know is when he unplugged his starter relay then plugged it back in the correct charging voltage returned for a few days then dropped again. He's now changed the relay and 'Bingo' no more problems.
  14. Thanks for the help guys its much appreciated. Looks like I'm going to have a fun weekend
  15. Thanks for the advice, could you explain 'rings passing' & 'ptessurising' please. Thanks again.
