  1. From the symptoms you describe i would have to be brutaly honest and say i wouldnt want to share the road with you are you sure you could be in proper control of a vehicle during an attack?

What really dissapoints me is the fact DVLA appear happy for you to ride a motorcycle at all.

    +1

tho u are the subject of a 'medical tick menu'

still if u feel the need to 'drop to your knees ' when the attack happens, is that a safe riding feature?

  2. I bought a second-hand car today and need to tax it on Monday at the post office because the tax disc expired on Thursday just gone.

I insured it today and the insurer sent the certificate by email and will be sending the same thing by post.

The car is a good 'un, has valid MOT cert, etc, etc.

The question is, will the local Post Office's hatchet-faced old boot who hasn't smiled in 20 years accept a printed copy of the insurance policy from my black-and-white laser printer or will she insist on seeing the one sent by the insurer (which is probably printed on a colour laser printer, with that being the only difference!) If in doubt, I could go to a while-u-wait printing place and get the document printed in colour - if they are allowed to do that (there's probably some law that says they can't, I'll bet ...)

as already sdaid, yes, ,, only stipulation is NO photocopies

  3. I'm going to be a pedant here. Nobody pays road tax. The roads are maintained by the local authority.

I'm not a pendant usually, but...

No they're not (necessarily). Major roads are maintained by the Highways Agency, minor roads by local authority (usually) acting on behalf of, and as agents of, the Highways Agency.

    pedant pedant,

roads are managed by highways agency, maintained by council

  4. I'm leaving the motorcycle world having decided there are too many lunatics on the road and after having learned that car insurance will only be around £1300 for me for a 1 litre vauxhall corsa.

Thanks for putting up with me.

    Bye.

not yet a 'biker' then , maybe one day ,,,bfn

  5. Ok, I noticed my front brake light isn't working.

I took off the switch and tested with a multimeter. That's working as expected. I also touched the 2 cables using a circuit tester, which is showing as a circuit. My assumption is: I have a short somewhere.

Rear brake light works just dandy, so I know it's not the bulb.

Any suggestions or am I condemned to multimeter hell this coming weekend?!

    ,

so its maybe a break in the wiring from the front switch to the rear unit( or bad connection), test back from the rear???

  6. I'm sorry, but quit your whining. There are more vulnerable people on our roads than motorcyclists you know? This is an area to keep them safe.

Heres an idea too, stop behind the lead car so you arent racing anyone off the line. Thats what the highway code tells us to do, or at least implies that we should do (I cant remember exactly where, but I'm sure I can find it if you want?)

Also, according to a local cop, stopping at the front is illegal because a soon as the light turns green, technically you are racing the lead car off the line.

I think that most people seem to think that because they have bikes, this automatically means they have the right to be in front of everyone else. It doesnt.

We are lucky enough to own vehicles small enough to slip through gaps in traffic, but that doesnt mean we need to go off on one when we can't get to the front...

I'm sure I'm going to sound like a right c*nt saying this, but you sound like kids throwing your toys out of your pram. At the end of the day, you win some, you lose some, y'know? No need to get so worked up about it that you start a petition about it, just wait a couple of extra seconds until its safe to overtake.

    well said

  7. I bought a bike at the weekend and the guy kindly gave me all of his equipment along with the bike. I actually have most of the equipment i need anyway, however i do like his leather jacket quite a lot, and it fits me well. Only problem is that both it and the trousers that go with it smell a bit as you would expect, and aren't really that appealing.

I know i can wash the outsides with leather cleaner, already done that and looks better. I'm more concerned about washing the insides, but i have no idea how, any tips?

I guess i can't just put them in the washing machine without damaging the leathers and they don't have removable linings or anything like that. Could i just turn them inside out and rub some sort of mild soap into them by hand?

steam cleaning???, if u havent got one, i bet you know someone who has!

  8. I think one issue ive noticed is with the bolt it has the thread inside the block and outside the block and dividing the two sides is a smooth middle section that sits flush with the engine block so no thread to the engine block can be seen or accessed. Ill have a bit more of a mess and see how the next few days go.

tbh, after reading your responses to replies, i would take the offending item to a local engineer, are you capable of a top end strip???

  9. OK,

I suffer from chronic back pain as well as having a 'repaired' hip which starts aching on long(ish) trips.

I am considering getting a 'gel' pad for the bike seat - I have been quoted for an internal, rider only, gel pad for £110. They take your seat, remove the cover, cut out an area of foam, insert the gel pad and re-fit the cover.

Hi Al, i doubt gel seat will help with your back, but should ease the hip discomfort, ii've got 3 discs which dance, and hips ache with lack of circulation when riding, so i have raised bars, and lowered footpegs on the bird

i decided for my tootle around europe that my 'custom' seat wasnt comfortable enough, even tho it was sold as a 'gel' seat, so decided i'd do it myself

now can say it much improves riding time

here's the steps i took, not just adding gel, but making more "cradle" to the seat, i forgot to picture step 7 , adding memory foam onto gelpad(its a must for spreading weight points and keeping high temp away)

if thats not viable then i can recommend the service from Tony Archer

top bloke for seats, will do your own same day if you pre-arrange a nd take it 8-)
