  1. Hi i posted a similar question to this one a while ago but didn't getting many results so trying again.Im looking for a good honest training school in my area which is about 5 miles west of Reading in Berkshire that does das so far i got : Abbey motorcycle instructors ltd in Abingdon,Oxfordshire Andover rider training in Andover,Hampshire Bike2bike in Reading,Berkshire Which to stay clear from and which to give a call ? Any other suggestions are welcome ? Cheers
  2. After jan 2013 can i still ride a 125 on L plates with just cbt ? Is it cutting it a bit close now to do the tests and pass on a 125 considering winters coming and have no doubt training schools are very very busy as well ? Should the price of a secondhand 125 go up next year after Jan 2013 ?
  3. Hi done my cbt a few months ago and got a secondhand 125 to ride about to get some practice on.What i should i do next im 24 btw. The test on my 125 asap before Jan 2013? Do test on bigbike to get unrestricted right away this year or next ? Thanks
  4. Yeah, around Pangbourne any recommendations for local training schools ?
  5. Ok so far the critical list of things i got to ask a training school about is : What are the costs ? How many hours on road experience do you get ? Do you do mod1 practice with cones ? Whats the pass rate ? Have i missed anything ?
  6. Thx all for the advice so far. Few other things: How many hours on average of on road experience would you say a new rider needs after completing cbt before sitting mod1,mod2 taking in consideration they have no experience on 2 wheels other than cbt but has been driving a car for 5 years ? Would you say traveling 50 miles to a motorcycle training school for the sake of it being a little cheaper than local one would be a good idea or not considering am very unfamiliar with the roads in that area will this likely make things harder for mod2 ? What important questions should i ask a motorcycle training school before handing over cash ?
  7. Hi all, Are das courses better suited for people who have just passed their cbt done no riding between or for people who have passed their cbt and done some riding on their own 125 in between or does it not matter ? Ive looked locally in my area for motorcycle training schools that do a das course and the prices varies something like + or - 100-150 quid. What should i be looking at price wise for such a course how do i know if im being ripped off,any tips ? Thx
  8. I guess das is the route i will probably end up taking its just the nagging questions about hidden and extra costs that bother me. How do you know you've found a bad or good motorbike training school, what signs do i need to look out for ? Do i need to go down the road of buying some gear before starting a das course is it recommended ? Some local motorbike training schools charge around 120 quid for 3 hours on a 125/500 and 700 quid up front for complete das package which includes 12 hours on road training + test fees does this sound reasonable or ripoff ?
  9. Das is the way to go i guess its the cost though that scares me.If i pay 600gbp up front for a das course and then end up failing a number of times for what ever reason(lack of experience) or needing lots of extra hourly lessons than that 600gbp could easily end up going over 1k and cost a small fortune with nothing much to show for it if you get what i mean.
  10. I would do the das and get it over and done with. Its just Ive heard horror stories from other people who have failed the mod1,2 test several times etc for what ever reason and end up forking out over 1000 quid just for the training to get the pass.
  11. Cheapest das course at a Local training school was priced around 600-700gbp where i live and new 2013 regulations come in 2013 which is roughly 7 months away thats where that came from.
  12. Thx all for the advice so far. Ok just to verify If i got a secondhand 125 now sold it next year i should get roughly what i payed for it despite the new regulations which i guess can only reduce the number of potential riders under 21 yrs riders ? So assuming very little depreciation on the 125 and factoring the cost of insurance, tax, petrol etc its still cheaper than just doing das and getting a 250 or 500 as a first bike assuming a first pass for mod1,2 etc ?
  13. Hi again, To fill in the blanks done my cbt a little while ago first time on a bike haven't had any experience since am stuck at the crossroads of what to do next final goal is a full license.Do I go down the "very costly" das route 600-700gbp or the buy 125 practice on L plates for a while then go in for restricted im 25 btw ? The problem with the restricted route is that only leaves me 7 months to get a 125 and practice and pass mod,2 otherwise im stuck with a 125 and no way of progressing.Trying to make the most cost effective choice. Regards
